What d you think of this Campeign for Organ Donaton???

Since 2008 regulations in Canada changed, not allowing sexually active gay men to donate organs,
At the same time, I'm sure there are a few stipulations that if you had cancer, and certain other diseases you're not allowed to be an organ donor either.

So I'm trying to figure out this campaign put out by Ontario's Ministry of Health, asking "How Can you NOT?"

And it reminds me of elementary school, and asking the teacher "Can I go to the washroom" and her response being "I don't know, CAN you?" very sarcastically, as that response always seems.

I'm kind of picking that same tone up from this particular banner.

    "How CAN you not!?"

Well simply put, many Canadians CAN NOT donate, due to a variety of factors, and not excuses, but regulations put forth by Health Canada - some very valid reasons; and some due to "safety precautions".

I'm not offended, I'm not saying all their reasons are justified... I just don't think it's appropriate wording for their cause...

    Thoughts?

I'm not offended easily, and would probably not think twice over the matter of a civil servant's poor choice of words beyond, recognising that organ donations is the focus of this admirable campaign....

I don't feel particularly guilty about not being an organ donor if I have a legitimate reason not to do it.

But I don't see any problem with posing this question to everyone and making those who are too lazy or squeamish squirm a little bit if it means that even some of them realize that there is no reason why they can't.

Oh, yes. I understand that completely - there's a bit more to the banner, it's got several screens about related to "self-esteem" along the lines of "You don't think you're the perfect age, look...etc" (I'm paraphrasing) and it plays like a Dove commercial an then says "Well someone will think you're perfect some day!"

And then makes the point your perfect organs should be donated, and not goto waste. Which I totally get.

Again, I'm not offended by the banner ad, but at the same time it doesn't sit too well with me based on the wording, and the angel they're going for. I feel like there's more ways to make someone feel uncomfortable about not signing up to donate, while not singling out those who cannot.

I wish I could get the full extent of the ad, just to show what I mean.

Likely it was a PR firm, over a civil servant from the ministry itself.

I think it could be an effective slogan for getting the majority of eligible people to become organ donors which is a good thing. Sure, it may be annoying to those ineligible but a more inclusive marketing campaign may not be as effective in reaching as many eligible people as possible. Encouraging organ donation benefits everyone so I can overlook the imperfections when it's for the greater good.

I too find it incredibly frustrating that I am illegible to be a blood donor. But this would not prevent me from encouraging all forms of publicity to encourage people to give blood. I am quite willing to be offended if it results in an increase in donors.
