The problem with it is it's a Republican program some Democrats thought they could tweak to make it acceptable to liberals while keeping the support of the GOP. That pretty much guaranteed a bastard piece of legislation that wasn't going to work.

Cheer up. Sooner or later there will be affordable healthcare for all Americans as a basic human right.
So far all it's done is take a step to guarantee income to the insurance companies without making sure the customersproviding that income can actually get medical care. So I'm not optimistic.

As of mid February, the Executive Branch had made 18 unilateral changes to the act...as follows:

    1. Medicare Advantage patch

    2. Employee reporting: The administration instituted a one-year delay of the requirement that employers must report to their employees.

    3. Subsidies may flow through federal exchanges

    4. Closing the high-risk pool

    5. Doubling allowed deductibles

    6. Small businesses on hold

    7. Delaying a low-income plan

    8. Employer-mandate delay

    9. Partially allowing Self-attestation for income

    10. Delaying the online SHOP exchange.

    11. Congressional opt-out.

    12. Delaying the individual mandate.

    13. Insurance companies may offer canceled plans.

    14. Exempting unions from reinsurance fee.

    15. Extending Preexisting Condition Insurance Plan.

    16. Expanding catastrophic hardship waiver to those with canceled plans.

    17. Equal employer coverage delayed.

    18. Employer-mandate delayed again.

I'm not sure I see the problem. In fact the changes seem to address details not concept.

I do remember you and others saying that Obamacare was perfect and did not need any revisions.

Can you explain the delays? When will the law be enacted?

Bullshit. You can't remember any such thing.

As someone living in a country with single payer insurance and universal access to care, the last thing I'd be doing is calling Obamacare perfect.

But even a total of 38 patches to such landmark legislation seems insignificant in the scheme of things.

Why are you and FOX and Fiends So chubbed up about when it starts? the answer is right there.

And since you hate it so much, I would think that the longer it isn't enacted, the harder y'all would be.

How can you so persistently ignore the truth? It's been documented over and over for you, and you somehow manage to go on as if you've never heard a word. So maybe you're not a liar, maybe you actually believe the false reality you stick to so thoroughly.

Democrats only "own" the ACA because Obama was dim enough to think that by lifting a piece of Republican effort, namely the Heritage Foundation's brainchild that became Romneycare, he could get the GOP on board with caring for their fellow Americans. But the Republican level of hate was such that they wouldn't even vote for a plan that came from their own.

And since then all the GOP can do is try to undo it. They don't have any suggestions for something better, they just want to tear down anything Obama accomplished.

Even when he stole it from them in the first place.

Did the law authorize the executive branch to tweak and adjust the law or its implementation that way? That's the problem -- because if the law doesn't authorize it, then every one of those changes is illegitimate.

I've never seen the hatred right-wingers have for their fellow Americans revealed so clearly as in this debate. You claim "un-American", but I'd say that the GOP's vicious program to implement severe social Darwinism is what's un-American, because it's anti-Americans. For all the tale of "family values", the only families the GOP elite value are their own -- everyone else can go die, for all they care.

You can chant "suckle the government teat" all you want, but the truth is that it's just an excuse to not have to care, to close your heart to fellow citizens and leave them to be trodden underfoot. And it's all just evidence that you don't believe this is a country in any meaningful sense of the word, because people who see a country around them show that they care for their fellow citizens.

And for all the tyrannical aspirations of liberals, I'd far rather see a complete liberal takeover of the country than allow it to become a jungle engineered to freeze the economic ladder and treat anyone not in the top few percent as just animals left to scrabble for what scraps the plutocrats drop.

Just by way of perspective, the Canadian government will balance its budget in 2015, we had 43000 new jobs last month (equivalent of 386 000 if we were the size of the US), I pay no bill and no deductible whenever I visit the doctor, I pick the doctor of my choice, a doctor who is usually self-employed, independently regulated by his own professional association, and certainly not a government employee, and I still get to keep the vast majority of my paycheque in socialist tax-and-spend canuckistan. Our health system provides excellent first-world outcomes, but costs only 53% of the US expenditure on health care.

So for anyone complaining about the good, modest, basic advance that is Obamacare, unless you are complaining that it doesn't go far enough and should be a single-payer system with no deductables or co-pays, I think you might need to reread that bit about perspective.
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

It's your failure to apply critical thought and read beyond your own opinions that makes it look childish.

"Blah, blah, blah" is a response to the fact that the right wing in this country has abandoned rationality to the point that their words mean nothing more than those three syllables. "Baa" and "moo" would also be appropriate to summarize the content of members of a choir so lost from reality that their every point can be predicted merely by listening to two of the most irrational and ignorant men this country has ever had the misfortune to see rise to any sort of prominence: Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

Get over yourself. There is ALWAYS a delay between a law being passed and the final regulations being implemented.

Remember when the Republicans banned US banks from accepting payments for online gambling in 2006 (very "small government" lol)? Well that law was not fully implemented until just 2 years ago.

Oh Jack, you and Ben obviously have some need to be ridiculed. Honestly, you both spout unoriginal propaganda that's not even semantically different from the original on a gay site filled with people you know you're going to offend.

But of course you know this, it's why you don't go play with the Freepers.

You can say thank you to those of us who provide you with what you and the others like you so desperately require. You're welcome.

Presidents don't play with laws the way that Obama has with the ACA.

I'll ask you the question again .. when will Obamacare start?

I see your point. Getting Obamacare much faster is good for business. No stalling. I wonder why the Republicans were so obstructionist in Congress.
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

“Critical thought!” That’s funny. An actual critical thought and a cold drink of water would kill the average liberal. All I see the liberals in this forum producing is pseudo-intellectual babble. You can spout such nonsense all day long to reassure yourselves that you are in the right, but at the end of the day, you still amount to a ship of fools.

You people can prattle about your rights all you like, but in the final analysis, you have only one basic right: to be left alone to pursue your own interests.

Healthcare isn’t a right. No man has the “right” to expect the government to steal money from other people at gunpoint, and use it to take care of his needs. That concept is totally contrary to the basic principles on which this country was founded.

Look here at where the U.S. stood of major countries on supplying health care. All the money they spend on weapons they should still be as ashamed of themselves as I am ashamed of them. This article is from 2012. http://www.theatlantic.com/internati...-on-it/259153/

Just like this law, and no post I ever saw from the "liberals" said it was carved in stone or it was all that great from the get go. Its called evolution and seems to be the natural order of things. Of course that word is a bad one to the 2 legged backward fossils that follow the GOP as well.

Many of the 7 million had health care before Obama took it away from them.

Jack, fret not. Not a single Republican voted for the ACA. Very good. But nobody is challenging that. Read those posts again, because nobody ever said anything about that.

The material being voted on was supported by both parties, just not at the same time. Republicans (at the platform level) supported it from the time Hillarycare was in the works until approx. September 12, 2001. Democrats (at the platform level) supported it from mid-2009 to present. Therefore, it was not strictly a bipartisan bill. But again, nobody in this thread said otherwise. The end result just looks obscenely partisan, because only one party supported it at the time it was passed and signed into law.

It would be interesting to find out what the individuals involved (from 1996-2012) actually thought about the material. It's not uncommon for legislators to vote down the party line without actually knowing what's in a bill. Nor is it uncommon for legislators to vote against their own conscience (often because of a perpetual re-election cycle).

Moreover, I would be interested in what legislators of the 110-111th Congresses thought about universal single-payer healthcare before Obama pushed the current material. I feel that a slim majority would've preferred universal single-payer, had it not been made de facto political suicide by the DNC.

I personally think the ACA was a bad idea from the get-go. It's riddled with holes, many of which Obama supported simply to win over the approval of the Republicans. It doesn't effect nearly enough people and has a built-in self-destruct: the states have to approve medicaid expansion, and the states that did are the ones that needed the ACA the least. Furthermore, it's only providing (if you can call it that, because it also took away many people's) insurance. It's not healthcare. It's not addressing the problem, it's exacerbating it. The reason no other country does it this way is because it's frankly a bad idea. A terrible idea, even.

What we need is actual reform. Progress. Evolution. Whatever you want to call it. I don't care. The ACA is like prescribing morphine to a burn victim, without actually doing anything to help the patient.

No one has actually 'exposed' anything as far as I can tell.

All I see are the far right fringe all frothy and foaming because the concept of getting as many people insured as possible, with plans that actually provide some actual substantive coverage, just might work.

Wait a minute...a country in which one of its earliest legal documents included a BILL OF RIGHTS was founded on no basic rights except to be left alone?

One poster here continually calls me a liar in saying that Obamacare was passed by democrats.

I'm sick of it and am not going to take his abuse anymore.

Obamacare is a bad law. It's hurt the USA and caused many people to lose their jobs, not have the opportunity to find employment because companies are confused and uncertain about the law.

So far there is no proof than more people have health insurance now than they did a year ago.

The job of Congress is to pass good laws not just pass a law to pass a law.

Most of Obamacare's plans have extremely high deductibles.
