    American Soaps

Not sure just what American soaps are on the go right now

    in the UK we have
    Eastenders
    Emmerdale
    Hollyoaks
    Coronation Street ( Corrie )

which all look a bit mundane and every day compared with the glitz
and glamour of Dynasty and Dallas

But then, Dynasty and Dallas are history while E enders, Corrie and Emmerdale
    keep rolling on.

Knots Landing was another bit American soap, but even that is no more !

Corrie has been rolling for over 50 years ! currently cranking out 5 x30 min episodes
    per week !

Well, in the US, we have four soaps still on the air: The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, and General Hospital. The rest have been cancelled--most recently All My Children, and One Life to Live. I used to be an avid ABC soap watcher, but my interest has waned in the past couple of years. However, with the recent return of gay legacy character, Lucas Jones, to General Hospital, I may have to take a peek at what's going on.

And a year before All My Children and One Life to Live were cancelled, As the World Turns was cancelled after 54 years on the air in 2010 with one of the last stories told was a very heart breaking gay love story, it stayed with me for weeks after it ended. I was also happy to see Julianne Moore reprise her 1980's role as Frannie Hughes for one episode before it ended, which i thought was very classy of her.

2009 saw the end of the Guiding Light after being around in one form or another since the 1930's. Was never a regular viewer (but i did happen to watch Joan Collins' first week back in 2001 i think) but was sad to see it end nonetheless.

Not sure where Passions falls on the cancellation list, but that was one quirky ****** I didn't follow it but only caught the odd episode here and there and surprisingly it wasn't hard to understand the storyline.

I grew up on and love soaps but currently don't watch any on a regular basis like i did before 2013 began; i was a daily viewer of the Young and the Restless but left the show when there was precious little left on the show that i enjoyed (save for Michael Muhney's portrayal of Adam Newman, but even he wasn't enough to make me stay). I left the Bold and the Beautiful for the same reason.

A few months ago i caught an episode of Days of Our Lives on Hulu and clicked on Coronation Street afterwards and oh my gosh, i got hooked and watched half a dozen episodes in one sittings, the writing and story tellling was believable and the acting excellent (but maybe it was just the fancy talking...). I meant to go back but as yet i haven't. Any show that can hook me like that is a.o.k with me.

    But yea, soaps are great.

Revenge is a nighttime soap...kinda dark...

When I was in college I watched Edge of Night and Days of our Lives...it was the only thing on between my work and school schedule...

I will tune into Days of our Lives maybe once or twice a month if I remember...except when I hear Eileen Davidson is back and then it is 2-3 times a week if I see her name pop up. Eileen Davidson is fun to watch. Next year Days turns 50 years old I think.

thanks for that up to date info on US soaps
    The Young and the Restless,
    The Bold and the Beautiful,
    Days of Our Lives,
    and General Hospital

Ill have to put those titles into torrents and see whats up there.

I got a ton of Dynasty Dallas and Knots Landing from Torrents, looking back on them, they
were big productions and now look like classic TV

I guess all based in California... (maybe a few trips to Dallas for some location shooting !)

We are focused on UK US and Aussie for soaps, but I have a feeling there are some
good soaps from places like Germany and Brazil that we never even hear about .

The only soap I follow is Young & Restless. I was born with it, literally. My mom gave birth to me during a commercial break of Young & Restless. There is also a gay actor on it too and he is adorable.

I remember a Japanese soap called "Oshin".
But my favourite was Sons & Daughters. Never missed an episode!

Does anyone remember the nighttime soap version of "Valley Of The Dolls", starring Sally Kirkland?
It didn't last very long and ended with a typical who-shot-the-bastard cliffhanger, but the most important thing is that they showed male rear nudity.
I just watched it for the hot buns!

There was an Argentinian soap, called Botineras, about the drama surrounding a team of soccer players. The women were supremely bitchy, the men were supremely gorgeous, and there was a gay storyline between two of the players.

    Ooh, that looks very interesting!
Maybe a little bit like "Footballer's Wives" (I remember one of players got spanked by the captain - mmmh!)

On Days of our Lives there is a gay couple...not as exciting as the Argentina soap but as far as I know it is the only gay couple on an American soap...I could be wrong because Days is the only one I watch occasionally

Oh, I love the Will/Sonny storyline on Days. Unfortunately, the actor that began the arc--Chandler Massey--is no longer with the ****** However, they brought in a new actor to continue his and Sonny's romance.

Kevin (Greg) is my favourite on the show! I didn't know he was gay! He can be so devious at times, but in a totally adorable way that makes you root for him. I've been watching this show for a few years now and I never miss an episode if I can help it.

I haven't watched soaps in a long time. Back in the 80's I used to watch General Hospital. John Stamos was on it then, and Demi Moore as well. I used to enjoy watching it for John Stamos, I will admit. LOL

Yeah...I am not sure if I like the new actor yet. Chandler Massey was so good....I will have a hard time warming up to his replacement

I have started Dynasty again, i'm on season 4. This should be considered as a documentary on high fashion of that era!

    Re: American Soaps

The Young And the Restless (love that theme tune) was shown here for about a year. I was just getting into it and then it was dropped.

I used to watch Knots Landing in the 1990s, and have now been watching the repeats inc all the 1980s episodes that I'd not seen before.

I watch the new version of Dallas. Judith Light and Mitch Pileggi steal every scene.

I used to love Sunset Beach. It was the most over the top soap ever. I wish they'd bring it back. It was nuts. It makes me smile just to think of it.
