Canadian Ted Cruz renounces his Canadian citizenship....again.

Canadian born Rafael Cruz, republican Senator from Texas who recently was instrumental in shutting down the country he moved to, again has renounced his Canadian citizenship and recently hired lawyers to start the processes.

Rafael, who prefers to use the alias Ted, moved to Texas in 1974 and enjoyed dual Canadian-American citizenship because his mother was American.

This is the second time Cruz has made the announcement, the first time 4 months ago. What's he up to? Does this first time freshman Senator hope on a Presidential run?

This beings up even more questions. Can this foreign-born man be President of the United States? Why did it take him 43 years to decide to do this is he's been in this country for decades?

I think we should do like an exchange sort of thing... if we have to keep him, they have to take Sarah Palin. I know from my visit to Canada that she's pretty widely reviled there.

    ugh.

    no.

...although he'd be able to do so much less damage here that I guess we could hold our nose and let him work as an MP from Bumfuck, alberta.

Sounds like a good idea. She's already used the Canadian socialized health care system more than once so she will assimilate well.

Don' know how they'll feel when she's ridin' up in a 'copter shootin' their bear and elk.

Rareboy, I'm sorry but you don't get to have it all. We really must insist you accept our gift of Sarah Palin in return for your gift of Ted Cruz.

I think he's a sick man mentally---not just based on his politics---somethings not right with him.

Yeah, I think so too. I am fairly certain he actually thinks he will be running for president somehow.

He reminds me a lot of Joseph McCarthy. He is frightening...definitely something not right there.

I'm hopping off the political correctness bandwagon and just going to come out and say it…is this man missing any chromosomes?

EDIT: No, we don't want him back in Canada. You can keep him.

It's his craziness that appeals to so many from the far right extremist bunch. Since they're over the top they want someone who speaks for them, that's why he appeals to the insane crowd because he's one of them.

He's in it for himself tho to advance his career..... he loves his name in the news and the crazier he is the more they'll report on him.

Put him in Ontario, isn't that where they speak French? Maybe this Cuban/Canadian/Texan/Ugh will get confused and forget about any politics.

I want to see his parents' birth certificates. Was his mother really a US citizen?

Alan Dershowitz said he was one of his brightest students at Harvard.

But he is entirely without scruples. Sociopaths tend to be brilliant.

Cruz cares about nothing, and no one, but himself. Everything he does is to put his face in the papers, and both sides of the aisle are saying this.

QFT. It's why so many CEOs/board chairmen are sociopaths.

I'm gonna jump on the conspiracy wagon here and say he isn't a US citizen on "paper" because there are none from his birth. If you are a US citizen abroad and give birth, you are supposed to head to the nearest US embassy and inform them, fill out some easy paperwork and your child become a US citizen. Had a friend born abroad in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War [mom was a nurse] so she is familiar with how the system works. There was a statute of limitations on it too [there isn't anymore] but forget the time period [wanna say 14 YEARS], however, failure to fill out said paperwork lead to a forfeiture of the child's "naturalized citizenship". Course that doesn't mean said child can't become a US citizen but can never hold dual citizenship.

So without said US birth papers, Cruz can't renounce his Canadian citizenship because that would leave him stateless which is against international law. So glad I am not an immigration lawyer but this topic REALLY made me buy the Steam game, Papers, Please.

I don't think it will be contested because of the bad precedent it would create. Liberals certainly will not go that route, but the old guard Republicans might.
