Winter weather: Temperatures plummet, thousands face Christmas without power

They said on the news that power was out from Mich to Maine. I checked Palbert's profile and see that he hasn't posted since 9:22AM 12/23. Anyone heard from him? Hoping he will be fine this week. Hoping he was able to go somewhere to visit.

Winter weather: Temperatures plummet, thousands face Christmas without power

By Alexander Smith, NBC News contributor

Crews were battling to restore electric power to hundreds of thousands of people from Michigan to Maine in time for Christmas Day after an ice storm brought down trees and power lines.

About 330,000 homes and businesses across Michigan, New York, Vermont and Maine were still without power Tuesday afternoon after the severe weekend weather, utility firms said.

Adding to the urgency: the cold. Kevin Roth, a lead meteorologist for The Weather Channel, said parts of Michigan the hardest-hit state, with about 220,000 of the reported power failures were experiencing temperatures between zero and 10 degrees, with wind chills well below zero.

It was 82 degrees here today. Finished Christmas shopping then went to the beach. My heart goes out to all those who lost power in that horrible cold.

We had power fluctuations today, but no loss. I think there was trouble on the BPA secondary distribution lines up in the mountains.

Yeah, ignorance does that to a person.

Do solar panels have a way to warm themselves even when the sun isn't shining, or do they also get covered in ice and/or snow (at night, at least) and become useless?
D...UMP has one hand in Putin's pants, and he wants his other hand on the nuclear button. USA, please don't commit suicide.

more or less, anything more than a light dusting of snow will block out their receptors.

but the fact that they're black should help the snow melt off them faster once the sun comes out.

Depends on the panels, the sun, and where you live. I wonder if the wind farms in the frozen north are working.

YAY! Glad you are ok. Also glad you have that generator. I'm sure you need it.
No need to answer my PM, I know you're alive now. Soo good to hear from you. Jimmy
