    Bisexuality and depression-Pretty bleak!

I just read that people who have repressed their bisexuality have rates of depression 6 times higher than for straights and higher than for gays. I don't recall the exact wording but that is a pretty bleak statistic. So does that mean that guys who are in straight long term relationships and are faithful are primarily who is in this statistic? That's a pretty bleak prognosis. Very hard to win either way. I would be interested in the thoughts of others on this topic.

spanishguy- You are talking about active bisexuals. That prognosis is for those who repress their bisexuality and live a completely straight life. Two very different scenarios. I doubt there are many wives who are so liberal. Probably as many as who allow their husbands to have a girl friend!

I didn't realise the figures were that high, but as with any feeling, if you repress it, it's going to slowly eat away at you and cause problems. Being honest early on may create issues in the short term, but the long term benefits are the most important - IMHO.

Women are biologically programmed to seek the man to be monogamously predisposed. I can't remember where it was that I read or heard it but it says that true bisexuality do exist for women but is only a transitional phase in men. It means that on a short-term basis, a man might dabble in sex with other men typically from teens to early twenties but eventually settle to either a purely heterosexual orientation or homosexual orientation, eventually. I believe it was under the Hite report on male sexuality that says that 33% of men engage in some (at least once) homosexual encounter in their lifetime. Obviously, one-third of the entire male population is not gay (except in NYC lol) so the majority of the homosexual encounters can be attributed to experimentation and bisexuality. The depression stems from the psychological toll of not being able to fully engage in a male-to-male relationship because of social pressures and norms on an otherwise homosexually inclined man.

I also remember that men who have sex with men on a habitual or semi-regular basis after the age of 21 has a high probability of internally identifying as gay, however psychologically conflicted he might be with that fact even though he might never admit to it.
