Why does it feel so dated? I keep waiting for something somewhat significant to happen and nothing does.

The second episode should have been better but I'm done with this. This feels like a "drama school production": well acted, filmed nicely and a decent script but there is no soul in the ****** I won't go into any "meta" level they may be working on with regards to Patrick but I would like to think we have moved on beyond of the point of forcing ourselves to enjoy gay programming for the sake of it being LGBT.

Pretty much the only redeeming part of the show so far has been the mustache daddy's roommate, she's been pretty funny.

I have to say I was watching this last night and all I could think was "it's like Sex in the City told through Charlottes perspective". It's a bit of harmless fun, but it's never going to set the world on fire.

The 2nd episode was indeed boring, even though I though this was going to get better. I´ll give it a coupld of more episodes but if nothing happens, I´ll stop seeing it..

Idk, wake me up when they put more interesting characters in. I think I saw the first five minutes of the second episode and I just can't get over the fact I can't relate to any of these people. It's bad enough it's a gay themed show but what good is it if I can't relate to it. I related more to Oz for fucks sake.

I think this show will get better over time. It takes a little while for a show and characters to develop. I've enjoyed the first 2 episodes so far.

I definitely liked episode 3 the most so far. Each character is presented with choices that will determine the direction of their lives and circumstances going forward. Stakes are, finally, set. And although the future doesn't appear particularly bright for some characters, or as though the right decisions being made, it's good to see them faced with odds that get the show moving.

I liked episode 3 the best so far. I think the characters on the show are starting to develop and it's starting to pick up. I hope this show has a decent run of many years.

After the third episode the characters are starting to show some depth. I wish it was an hour long though. The episode just starts to get interesting and the credits are rolling. I also love that Scott Bakula is in it and hope his character shows up again.

I like the show but find it to be a little slow paced. Not sexy enough, not catty enough and not funny enough. We need a little over the top drama sprinkled with some ki-ki moments to keep us interested. Lets hope that they pick up the pace as the season progresses. I'll be watching.

Episode 3 was definitely an improvement over the first 2 but still, the pacing is just terrible. It either needs to be a full hour or at least 5 extra minutes and not the typical, commercial show length.

Dear hell, that's the LAST thing we need. You want ki-ki? RuPauls' Drag Race is back on the 24th.

I so very much agree with those statements. Its not terrible, it just feels very tedious to watch it. Almost like a chore that I want to try & enjoy.

I didn't even go into it with expectations that it would be super flashy w/ tons of skin like QAF, but I just expected more. I don't feel like anything is wrong with the three main characters, I personally feel it just needs that fourth to excite things a bit more. At this point, I feel like would be something like Sex & the City or Golden Girls without one of the four leads.

To be clear, I'm not saying it needs some over the top stereotype, but something is lacking for me. It just needs a touch of soul to it. The one guy can't find a date & has an awkward relationship with his new boss, the artist lost his job, had a 3some, & might be a prostitute, & the other one is wanting to start his own restaurant and I just don't care about any of it.

Re: HBO's new show "Looking" starring Jonathan Groff

shows need 3 things to be good (imo):

    -characters with depth
    -intriguing plots
-a hook (which is usually the played up 'gay' aspect in gay-centric shows)

What Looking is lacking is possibly a lack of depth for the characters. Or maybe the show needs an overarching plot that involves all the characters together working towards a goal...that isn't gay-related.

People always say shows need a few episodes to get into it. But with so many new good shows raising the bar every few weeks, that window is closing. It's hard enough catching up on shows in these binge watching times.

If "Looking" is picked up for a second season they have to pick up the pace. We're 4 or 5 shows in and I should know more about the characters or at least want to know.

Given the ratings [episode 4 had a paltry 106k viewers], I see it as a one-and-done. This last episode was pretty good but yeah, the lack of character depth aka "soul" is what this show needs. Why do I care if these people get together or what they even do for that matter? A meandering drama doesn't play out well without strong comedy or "soap opera" conflicts. If the show was a bit avant garde or made in the mid-2000s, it would get more viewers but I feel it is just too "safe" and boring for me to keep interest.

I agree that 30 minutes is not enough for this ****** At the last 5 minutes it starts to pick up and then it ends and its over. This show should have been an hour long ******

So far I am enjoying the show, even though it is slow going. I hope this show lasts.

    @instinctmag: .@HBO's #Looking Promises A Sex Scene Everyone Will Be Talking About! Get ready! @LookingHBO http://t.co/A7UstHcU4U http://t.co/Z7EUZ0qm2r

We've already been faithfully tuning in to HBO's Looking since its January premiere, but from what we hear the Sunday, Feb. 16 episode may be the one to watch for those that are looking for more sensational sex scenes!

    E! Online's Marc Malkin reports:

HBO's new dramedy Looking is about to get, um, explosive.

We're not giving you all the details, but if you watch the new episode on Sunday, you'll see Jonathan Groff giving some major O-face during an eye-popping sex scene with Raúl Castillo.

    .....

"You can't lie in those scenes," Groff told me at the Savannah College Art and Design's aTVfest. "You can't fake those scenes."

Hmm...Jonathan Groff and Raúl Castillo? O-Face?

    Is it Sunday yet??!

    Groff continues:

"The great thing about me and Raúl is that we both come from the theater," Groff said. "We're both very comfortable with our bodies, very comfortable with each other, [we were] very comfortable being naked together from the beginning. That builds a lot of trust. We built a lot of trust between us so you could really go there and we totally went there in that scene."

Their straight female director of photography, Reed Morano, was very impressed.

"She was in the bed with us," Gorff said. "We were in bed and there she was in bed capturing what was happening…She said, 'This is the hottest sex scene I've ever experienced shooting.'"

On finding his O-face, Groff cracked, "It took years of practice."

Welp. We'll be watching (or Looking)! Will you??

(And as for how hot that sex scene is, we'll be the judge of that, Reed!)

I need to watch the first few episodes, see if that's a plus or a minus.

They were at my school for one of our big annual events (ATV Fest), but I didn't bother going because I hadn't started watching the show yet. Even after seeing it I'm not sure that I would have gone, though.

Agreed, which is kind of sad, don't you think? She's been great. If all of the characters had an aspect of them that made them as engaging as her then the show would be much more interesting. I've watched the first three episodes so far to see if I would get hooked and it's all just so passive. And not only that, but so far I really don't care for the main character. I think I would actually dislike him if I knew him.

The show shouldn't necessarily need an hour, but at the pace at which they are delivering stories it actually might. It would either help them out by giving us more to chew on or it would make things worse because they haven't put enough into developing story beats for the season. Right now I'm not even sure what any of them are working towards.

The cast is all attractive, but I'm not horny enough to let that bring me back.

Re: HBO's new show "Looking" starring Jonathan Groff

So, I sat down and watched the first four episodes at dinner, and I can't think of many, if any redeeming qualities. If this is what Sex and the City was, I am glad I didn't watch a single episode. So, going down the line:

-The pacing, as stated, is odd - slow, and shoddy. I didn't come into this looking for a Sons Of Anarchy or another Oz, but even Noahs Arc (when it was good) knew how to get things going. Plus, a half hour show isn't enough - you don't learn much of the characters... there's no room to stand out because there isn't room to build. Hell, I don't even know many of the guys' names(Dom is the exception), and that's saying a LOT when in the first episode of QAF you at LEAST knew Micheal and Brian.

-My fear was confirmed - another upper-crust nearly diversity lacking gay ****** Maybe one day they'll do a gay show in another hub, like, say, Atlanta, where you TRULY get a mix of the gay classes. When they do Cali, they only do Castro and West Hollywood and the palm trees and "the life"... or at least the life according to Hollywood.

-The main character is a very odd combination of a naive follower, the new boy on the block, and overcompensating for what he clearly doesn't have. He wants a relationship BADLY, he wants to fuck IMMEDIATELY, he's awkward to the point of being endearing, but then he crosses that point and scares people off, wonders why, and repeats his same mistakes. And that's all I've gotten so far from him - well, other than he's got the job I want. So that's the second TV show where someone is working my dream job... and I don't care for either one of them(the other is Dads).

-On the opposite end, I kind of dig the "mustache daddy" Dom, but for the life of me I don't know why other than he seems to be both strong and goofy. He's definitely a sex fiend and is certainly trying to find his way, obviously still getting over last bf, but other than that, he's murky, as are the couple, who don't warrant a footnote(the artist and his bf...).

All that said... I don't think I will tune in to this until they start fixing some of this mess they've created.

I'm enjoying tonight's episode to be honest...it's nice to have a focused 1/2 hour of just the 2 characters.

The show seems just "ok" to me so far but I am falling in love with Raul Castillo's character Richie . So far he is the most interesting character to me. Seeing a hot hispanic guy who is versatile, catholic, and can play bass guitar gave me an instant hard-on. Anyone know if he is gay in real life? I think there is a LOT more to develop from his storyline and I cannot wait to see!

Anybody else have thoughts on Richie?

I enjoy his character as well...but hate the preview for next week when Augustine(?) calls Patrick out for "slumming it"...if anyone is slumming it it's his hot, British(well in real life) boyfriend slumming it with him.

    According to this article...

    http://www.out.com/entertainment/pop...new-hbo-series

...he's straight. I could have sworn I read he was openly gay a few weeks ago, but I can't find the article. Maybe it was just wishful thinking.

I watched all 4 episodes yesterday then episode 5 last night. I enjoy the ****** I'm older so it is enjoyable to watch what gay guys lives are like now in comparison to what it was like in the early 80's when I was 20 something. Like last nights episode when Ritchie and Patrick are walking along the beach holding hands, back then it was highly unlikely you would see that in public. I think some are reading too much into this. It is just a TV show about 3 homo guys and their friends and relationships. Period. It may not be like your life, and it is certainly nothing like my life now but it's fun to watch. When I was the age of most of you guys, we had nothing like this on TV or anywhere else for that matter. I agree it probably won't get past one season but at least it got that far and that is a good thing.

I'm basically hate-watching at this point and I can't even do that with Glee anymore it just sucks too much.

I just get the feeling that the "finale" will be an intercourse scene where get some D&A which will be received with a "meh".
