Obamacare ads in Colorado stir up controversy

So some group in Colorado came up with pro-Obamacare ads and created the website "doyougotinsurance.com". They have been stirring up controversy in the right wing blogs.

This thread has no relevance to current events and politics. There's nothing to comment on for these sarcastic images that do not portray a real message.

These ads representing how Obamacare is using the lowest form of advertising to promote itself --- truly a current event.

However, I guess you could start a new thread about Boehner's skin color -- which I'm sure you think is one of the hottest real political and current event topics in CEP.

Talk about the subject -- not the original poster.

States have the right to make any kind of advertisement they want---you know--states right's!, that's how the bill was formulated---in NY--where we are civilized and run by progressive thinkers--and the affordable care law is on it's way to success because of the government cooperation with the law of the land---our ads are more traditional but effective.

Colorado has spent over $25 million to 'sign-up' only 6,000 ACA customers.

We still don't know the definition of 'sign-up'.

An example ... one of the ads promotes promiscuous sex by saying now you have Obamacare and free birth control so you can have all the sex you want with whoever you want. Nothing in the ad promotes safe sex -- just birth control.

Susie and Nate are 'Hot to Trot'

What kind of message does that send to teenagers and young Americans?

Neither Colorado or the USA are in the position to promote casual sex.

That ad appears in the opening post of this thread.

Do you think it really promotes promiscuous sex or does it maybe remind young residents that the availability of birth control through Obamacare helps prevent unintended pregnancies?

According to a Colorado.gov FactSheet, nearly half of all pregnancies in Colorado are unintended.

Do you think the asterisk corresponding to a statement at the bottom of the ad fails to properly emphasize that “the pill” is not a substitute for condoms and common sense?

    (From the linked article)

Colorado has an estimated 350,000 people who are uninsured.
    $25,000,000 ÷ 350,000 = $71

What portion of the $25 million Colorado has spent promoting Obamacare went to fund the ads featured in the initial posts of this thread and that reportedly “have been stirring up controversy in the right wing blogs?”

I can't tell if the ads are pro- or anti- -- some seem sarcastic in a way that would make people think it's a bad idea.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

The ad is selling sex without consequences. I'll get out my magnifying glass to find the asterisk.

A business would be interested in results, not necessarily how many are in the market. $71 per individual is pretty high for any ad campaign -- when the ads are primarily targeted for a young market what enjoys having fun and sex and forgets all the others.

Good question -- and more evidence that today's right wing doesn't believe in liberty. Liberty rests on the fact of self-ownership, and no matter how much they protest, today's GOP has no more approval of self-ownership than do the Democrats.

Sex without consequences make a person a slut, non-caring, grows low self-esteem, and is a trademark of bad character. Plus, it's very risky physically.

Rrrrrrright. Keep hugging that bible and the key to the chastity belt. Meanwhile, the rest of us, living in the 21st century, see this puritan bullshit for what it is - an outdated remnant of a morally bankrupt oppressive culture that turns appreciation of physical pleasures into shame.

Two of those are entirely subjective, and thus invalid. Of the three assertions that can be argued objectively, only one is certain.

So we're left with arguing the merits of the claims of making "a person... non-caring" and "grows low self esteem".

Well, those two items are. I knew more than a few promiscuous people in college, and by my experience it didn't contribute to either low self-esteem or not caring for most of them.

I have to wonder if anyone's done a study on it.

What an ugly thing to say... How very right-wing of you. "Gays are promiscuous and die of AIDS very early". You should speak in a church, you'll fit right in.

It always amuses me how right wing prudes' heads explode when exposed to a sexually liberated person that has promiscuous safe sex. It just really doesn't compute for them.
