    Re: Can you sleep easily?

Mostly I have no trouble falling asleep. If I take a nap during the day then I can have trouble falling asleep at night even if I am really tired.
I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it.

    Re: Can you sleep easily?

Sleeping is no problem. The time I sleep is.

    I have this condition:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-24-...3wake_disorder

It's been going round and round in a roughly 3-week cycle like this for 20 years now - all my adult life.

As of 2005, there were fewer than 100 cases of sighted people with non-24 reported in the scientific literature.
    I'm special. Yay.

In 2002 Uchiyama et al. examined five sighted non-24 patients who showed, during the study, a sleep–wake cycle averaging 25.12 hours.
Yep - that's exactly how I describe it to people - like having a permanent 25-hour sleeping clock.

Not as bad as it sounds - if motivated or on holiday or with things to do, I can keep it stable for a while.

Most nights, I'm asleep within three minutes of turning out the light ,and I usually sleep through the night. Occasionally, I'll wake up at 4am and have trouble returning to sleep. (This is especially true if I had any alcohol the night before.) When that happens, I just get up and do stuff - usually boring housework - until I feel like falling back asleep. And if that doesn't happen, hey, I get my housework done.

    I'm a very good sleeper. If I can't sleep, it's generally because I'm ill.

I can only sleep at my own house, and in my own bed. Last time I slept over at someone's house, I was up all night because the bed I had to sleep in felt like laying on a rock sheet. I eventually had to sleep on the floor but that wasn't comfortable either but better than the bed.

Sleeping isn't a problem, but I don't really feel tired when I go to bed. They say the trick is to start getting ready for bed an hour before bedtime so you can unwind gradually. Easier said than done though.

I can't sleep in a public place, like on a train, and I've never fallen asleep out of doors. It's now 00:40 GMT, I have to be up at seven and I'm lying in bed listening to the radio and browsing through HT.
    It'll soon be Christmas!

I get only about 1 1/2 to 2 hours sleep per night. My back won't let me lie in bed longer than that. The rest of my sleep comes from short naps whenever I can manage them. it's been decades since I've had a full night's sleep.

One thing I can't do is sleep in a vehicle or sitting up in a chair. I have to be in a bed lying down to fall asleep. it sucks because if you take a redeye flight you can't sleep on it.

Perhaps you said this wrong but if you include sex with sleep or it is like sleep then you are doing it wrong.

I vary. I go through sleepless times and sleepful times. I have an over abundance of energy and would have probably been drugged up for ADD or something had I been born in this generation. So if I push myself during the day then I can sleep, if I am lazy then I have issues.

Recently I have been sleeping especially well and I think it is because I live near freight trains. You can barely hear them but if you listen closely there is a low rumble. Must be soothing or something. Or maybe it reminds me of the engines on large ships. I sleep like a baby on the ocean too.

All that good sleep aside, I awake at the slightest out of place sound.

Some historians now hold that segmented sleep is the historic norm:

    I wish I couldn't sleep in a vehicle.

Due to a lifelong affliction, I wink out at least a couple times a day and still sleep 7 - 8 hours at night. It's not as bad as narcolepsy, but close.

I've drifted off while at the wheel a few times. Now I only drive short trips, and I've learned to know the signs and find a safe place to take at least a 10 - 20 minute snooze.

I can [have to] sleep anywhere anytime. I'm sure I could sleep hanging on a coat hook.

Latimer... I agree with this idea.. especially if I am getting the sleep intermission sex that is often described as the two to three hours awake.

Sleep sucks the last 5 months or so. Was better before coming here. This may cause me to move eventually. Sleep is important! Too much noise (not from inside the building) but from outside.

I usually fall asleep pretty quickly as I'm often sleep deprived. I'm out cold within a few minutes (sometimes it seems like a few seconds). I am a light sleeper though. I can manage on a few hours of sleep but on the days I get to sleep in, I can do 8+ hours easily.

    interesting

it's 2 am now and I always think 'sleep' is like a bitch- have you ever think that you ALWAYS can do more out of our 24 h limit- cycle? I think Im not from the earth because earth time cycle is too short and human sleeping cycle is like cheating with my life! (to function entirely as a human being) How many hours must be sacrificed for me to experience full time sleep? 7-8 hours!! I could do so many things within that hours.

Dont you ever wish to live in Mars?- since it's further from the sun- it has 40 minutes extra for a day rotation ^^ or venus? 243- earth days to finish one rotation? 243 days waking life! Yay!

I might have what you have- I ALWAYS sleep with sleeping pill 9/10 hours prior to work, otherwise- my rhythm is NEVER ever 6 am sharp.
Idk if I exactly have non 24 hour sleep wake disorder but it's very much described me- I might need a real doctor to diagnose, how do you know about yours?

Looking example from my parents- I must say my mom suffers alot, her husband snoring with vile bad breathing- open mouth, farting on bed, noisy door slam when he's taking a leak at night..etc

and..I hope I never must to endure that^

I'm probably one of the worst sleeper. It takes me between 1-2 hours lying purposelessly in bed before I enter slumber world, even when I'm extremely sleepy or exhausted. Even after that I am disturbed easily, even by dim light or faint noise, causing me wake up repetitively during sleeping every 1-2 hours.

I rarely sleep more than 6 hours during weekdays. On weekends I tend to sleep longer but usually in the morning.

Luckily it's beneficial to a degree for my work but it's very annoying on a daily basis.

Unless I'm very tired, it takes me a while to get to sleep. I've always been like that, even at daycare when we'd have naps, I was always among the last to fall asleep.
When I finally do drop off though, I'm a very deep sleeper. I could sleep through a full scale nuclear exchange ... in fact, I have to crank my clock/radio up loud so the alarm actually wakes me up.

    Re: Can you sleep easily?

Not at all. It takes me about an hour to fall asleep, most of the times, unless I'm really, really tired. I can never find the right position, and once I do, I feel an itch in some part of my body, scratch it, and I'm again trying to find the right positions. Very often I have "nightmares" before really falling asleep. I don't know. It's like my brain is at its peak when I go to sleep.
Anyways, when I fall asleep, I have a very light sleep. I wake up to basically any sound, so, most of the times, I use earplugs to sleep (I can get easily awaken by the sound of birds in the morning, my neighbour's dog, or even the sound of a neighbour's alarm, living under or below me).
Another thing I can't stand is having any form of light in the place I'm sleeping. I have to fall asleep in a completly dark place.
Something else that I don't understand, is the number of hours I need to have to wake up all jolly and happy. If I sleep for 6 hours, I'm sleepy. If I sleep for 8, I'm sleepy. If I sleep for 10, I'm sleepy. It's like I'm always sleepy during the day, but the hardest part is really waking up. I guess that's because of the sleep quality, rather than the quantity.
Well, yeah, and that's it. I guess I'm weird :P

I can sleep anywhere and at any time.

Yet most nights I only get between 5 to 6 hours and don't seem to be suffering from lack of sleep.

Younger, I was perfectly capable of going to bed late Friday evening and not waking up until Sunday afternoon.

I am a firm believer in not looking at the computer after 7pm at night and not having any music or tv in the bedroom. Having said this, I also have to take Trazadone to help me sleep through the night. It works. In fact, it probably has helped save my life by helping me to shut down and not work for about 7 hours every day.

I admire your discipline but I might suffer if only able to shut down and not to work for 7 hours only . For me, I need at least 4 hours daily- "ME" time thinking Im a forest spirit; singing and dancing without care and then sleep. I used to think that vacation might help rejuvenating, vacation is good but my body can't stand still until vacation (the gap is too wide from one vacation to the next).

So, Im talking about the "hyper activity" before bedtime, I believe your discipline might work effectively to everyone but I still need 4 hours- before sleep time to be completely self indulging. Problem is: not everyday I have that luxury, resulting decreasing work performance..

    Re: Can you sleep easily?

I'm not a great sleeper, though I've met worse.

to fall asleep, I generally require darkness (tv, lights, cannot be on) and quiet. I also require at least 6" of free space around my nose/mouth. but once I'm already asleep, noise/light won't wake me up unless it's extreme.

I can sleep while cuddling (as long as the aforementioned free space need is met), but not if my partner is breathing on me (which usually means that I'm the big spoon, with my neck/head at an angel upward, or me on my back with my partner's head on my chest).

I can deal with being touched while I sleep, but any kind of motion is going to wake me up. my partner and I have occasional spats about this because he likes to give me backrubs in my sleep or hump me. feels great, but the movement is going to wake me up. feel free to rest your hand on my stomach, back, ass, whatever, but once you start moving it, the rhythm will wake me up.

on the upside, I don't snore, drool, or move a lot in my sleep (unless my sleeping partner is violating one of the above rules, in which case I'll find myself edging closer to the side of the bed to get some space. I've actually fallen out of the bed a couple times with my current boyfriend because of this)
