    Bletchley Park

An interesting, and informative article on the origins of the "Ultra" team and the eccentric men, and women who worked at this secret establishment including Alan Turing. The origins of the NSA, and GCHQ are clearly evidenced here.

This paragraph gave me a chuckle:

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/437...than-the-Nazis

    I quote:

Some townsfolk swore that they had heard professors in the Shoulder of Mutton pub talking in Ancient Greek.

    Re: Bletchley Park

I think that goes a little too far. If it were not for Turing (GAY ATHEIST) and the others most of the world might be speaking German and be Nazi's. This is way different than the NSA & GCHQ. My partner and I are visitors and supporters of Bletchley Park, If any of you visit, London it is a 29 min train ride north of London to Bletchley and a 3 street walk from the train station to Bletchley Park. When there work was over Churchill ordered the machinery destroyed so it would not get in the wrong hands a team of scientists took 7 years to rebuild several of them they are absolutely amazing. While so many in the world kneeled down to pray to there God what stopped the war was a gay atheist. Be gay and Proud. It was the last war we should have been involved in. Go to google and see the original Enigma stolen from the Germans and the 5 wheeled once built to bust the codes which changed every day. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=th...&bih=541&dpr=1

Here's another article that offers us more glimpses on the private, and eccentric life of Alan Turing:

I think Turing was a gay hero.

What the heterosexual establishment did to him physically still makes my blood boil. His family were right to campaign for his postumous pardon. He should have a plaque up somewhere in London to celebrate his achievements.

Turing was born in Maida Vale, London, so the first one must be there. The University of Manchester one is a no-brainer. The third plaque says Turing "died here" and as he died in Wilmslow, Cheshire (which is near Manchester), that one is there.

The OP's recitation of recognition for Turing is in another thread:

The film about Turing, Codebreaker, is in limited release and will soon be generally available in DVD release.

CODEBREAKER has been nominated for a 2013 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor U.S. media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. “This nomination is a great honor,” says Patrick Sammon, one of the film’s Executive Producers. “We have been thrilled with the positive response audiences have given CODEBREAKER. We look forward to having this film reach a wider audience in the months ahead.”
Also significantly discussing Turing's contributions is Budiansky, Battle of Wits, The Free Press 2000. ("The Complete Story of Codebreaking in World War II.")

Ancient Greek is melodic and harmonious whereas, Dutch is rather grating in a cheesy sort of way

Here is a photo of the statue of Alan Touring at Bletchley Park which is now a museum. I urge everyone to go straight bi or gay, if they are in London. Trains leave every 30 min and take a little less than 30 min fro Euston Station. We have been denied heroes mostly by the Church this one saved many lives. The free audio guide is narrated by Steven Fry his opening world are so moving almost everyone has tears in there eyes for what the people at Bletchley did.

The original Enigma Machine about the size of a Typewriter. Had 3 wheels, The machine Touring and his group built are the size of mainframes have 5 sets of wheels and there are 170 Billion possible letters in any location. It is almost hard to understand how on earth these people figured out the codes and each day the Nazi's changed the code. So once broken it was good until midnight. One last thing (sorry to go on) The machines work. During the year they go to school and have children type messages using enigma and send them (albeit to day by twitter grin) to Bletchley park every one in decoded. Enough said stop yawning grin.
