Would you "succeed" as a rich person?

If you came into a decent sized amount of money would you use it wisely or would you blow it?

Would you get 24 hour wrestling for your back yard like one lotto winner did?

The only lotteries I play would give me enough that I would buy everything i really need, cover the major expenses for my loved ones, and still deposit 90% into bonds and blue chips that pay a dividend above inflation.... maybe five percent for higher risk investment.... then I would live off the dividends.... very luxuriously.... Plus to hedge against poverty i would deposit the 15 k a year I could into retirement accounts.....

basically already doing the last part... i wanna take retirement pay, retirement account payouts and then eventually social security and live in retirement doing projects that interest me from about 50 onward.... at least that is the plan.....

Havent given it much thought though...

Assuming we mean an amount greater than $50 million, I'd definitely succeed: I'd fund the new conservation group I'm with, Friends of Bayocean (find us on Facebook!), to the tune of $5 million, and then start a foundation that would sponsor people handy with tools to roam the nation and just stop to fix things for people, from a roof in bad shape to a house in need of paint to collapsing front steps to whatever.

Oh -- and I'd pay for a bike path from my home town to the beach... actually two beaches, both favorites.

I'd survive, because I already know a cheap house I can own outright and a place I can go to work and make my money work for me.

    So, to answer, wisely.

But it won't stop me from buying a new wardrobe, a car and getting one of those new-fangled gym memberships I hear the gays on TV talking about.

I waste some money now. I'm sure with millions in the bank, I would waste some then too. The secret is I always waste within my means, and always have. Whether it was a dollar or a hundred dollars.
Americans need to keep their guns so they can protect themselves from gun violence just like Nancy Lanza did. And like Chris Kyle did. And like Gabby Giffords did. And like Tom Clements did. And like Michael Piemonte. And Joseph Wilcox.

I ask this question because I hear about people winning hundreds of millions of dollars and then going broke and usually killing themselves.

I wasn’t kidding when I asked about 24 hour wrestling. I watched an E! special that said one guy actually did that.

Money is only a small part of life so no I haven't thought about succeeding as a rich person. If I won the jackpot then I would think about it.

Sadly, I think that the biggest issue I'd have would be trusting the people around me. I already have difficulty believing that the people in my life truly care about me, and I suspect I would have even more trouble with it if I could convince myself that they were only around because they knew I'd help them financially if they needed it.

I'd be more inclined to treat myself to the things I wanted, and to take the time to travel, but I think I can safely say that I would succeed in regards to managing my money.

I wouldn't blow my money on over expensive things just because I could, which is what I think people tend to do. I would pay off any debts I or my boyfriend had and just live comfortably with it.

    I'd like to think so.

I had a bit of a stock windfall earlier in the year, and I was pretty responsible with the money -- I bought myself one toy (new 70" tv) and took my boyfriend away for the weekend, but the rest went straight into my retirement accounts for reinvestment.

The E! special said he killed himself after he spent all of the money and had nothing to show for it. He supposedly won one of the largest prizes in his states history and had it spent in just a few years.

After I make some money I do need to spend some of it to get the novelty out of my system. I usually blow it on something I want but don't need; anything from a few books to new clothes to a new guitar (that was what I acquired this past Wednesday after getting paid at the end of September).

I'm quite good at being comparatively frugal with the rest of it, though.

Yes. I like to think I would.

In my world 'succeeding as a rich person' would consist mostly of giving my wealth away to 'poor persons/worthy causes/charities/whatever'. I really don't need much money for myself.

If I cleared a million in net cash I'd call myself rich.

I could easily be responsible with that, meaning I could do everything I selfishly wanted to do with that amount of money, until I was old and dying. No waste.

With more money, I think I'd just be generous. Again, no waste.

In the meantime, I'll have to measure out my generous impulses and my selfish desires.

^well true but a measure of success is not blowing it so you have something left for your retirement or older age..but it is interesting that a lot of the mega wealthy have signed a pledge to give it away. Buffett arguably the richest man on earth isn't leaving it to his family.
