The World in the 22nd Century

The World in the 22nd Century

2100 - Extreme droughts are affecting nearly one-third of the planet | Human intelligence is being vastly amplified by AI | Nomadic floating cities are roaming the oceans | Super-typhoons have increased tenfold | The chemistry of Earth’s oceans has been radically altered | Emperor Penguins face extinction

2110 - Terraforming of Mars is underway | Force fields are in military use | Femtoengineering is practical | Man-made control of earthquakes and tsunamis | Our solar system is passing through a million degree cloud of gas

2120 - Mind uploading enters mainstream society

2130 - Large-scale civilian settlement of the Moon is underway

2140 - A North American Union is taking shape | "Perfect" simulations of one cubic metre

2150 - Interstellar travel is becoming possible | Androids physically indistinguishable from real humans | Hi-tech, automated cities

2151 - Total solar eclipse in London

2160 - Mass extinctions are levelling off | The world’s first bicentenarians

2180 - Antimatter power plants are coming online | Asteroid terrorism

2190 - Matter replication is available for the home | Global languages are becoming few in number now; education has been vastly accelerated | The West Antarctic ice sheet is beginning to disintegrate

    http://www.futuretimeline.net/22ndcentury/2100-2149.htm

I found this interesting. There are predictions up to 10,000AD! Of course, they are only predictions, so take it with a grain of salt.

one problem in 2072 a plague hits of record epidemic proportions taking out 70% of all humans. This event dwarfs the death toll 20 yrs earlier in WWIII, which had a combined loss of life greater then all previous wars known to mankind.

Actually, it is the Spanish Flu, which in 2072 kills 10 billion, far more than in the early years of the 20th Century.

This is followed by the swine to parakeet to humans influenza, an H1N1 influenza transferred from improperly pre-cooked bacon to parakeets walking through breakfast pancake syrup. The death toll is still rising and PETH, People for the Ethical Treatment of Humanoids , is working with the CDC to mitigate the death toll to humans and AI-robots.

Of note, in 2061 the Czar's Amber Room is discovered in a hold of the Wilhelm Gustloff. It is repatriated to Putingrad.

WWIII, in 2062, threatens to destroy human civilization. Only the fecundity of the world's immigrant populations preserves mankind.

People flock to the shrine of Saints Justin and Cyrus for a ritual bath in urine and a tongue lashing, grateful that the 2 minute war is over. The UN continues to inspect the devastation.

This is all assuming that in 2016 a terrorist doesn't set off an EMP above the US, throwing us all back into the dark ages, or some rogue asteroid (dinosaur killer type) burns off half the planet and then sends us into another ice age.

Are you suggesting that Obama (being a Kenyan muslim black extremist) to stay in office will unleash jihadist terror attacks?

I think terrorists will do whatever they can, whenever they can, regardless of who is in office, given the opportunity.

I was highly amused at the notion of extreme droughts effecting a vast swath of the world yet the oceans in the pictures are abundant with diverse wildlife.

Thinking about the world in the future is an interesting creative exercise, but hardly realistic.

I would say by 2100, that there is a one government world, the worlds fresh water supply is virtually nonexistent so desalinization of the oceans has occurred, they still have not colonized in outer space due to $$, first contact with intelligent life on other planets has not occurred, the Beatles is still regarded as the greatest rock group of all time, soccer is still the worlds favorite sport, and sadly religious
discrimination racial discrimination, sexual discrimination, and discrimination towards Gays is still prevalent.

Captain Jonathan Archer takes command of Enterprise (NX-01) which launches on its first mission - to return an injured Klingon back to his homeworld, despite the reservations by the Vulcans.

I'll definitely agree with you on the J.J. Abrams movies which I couldn't care less about and haven't seen except the first one once - as for Star Trek: Enterprise I'll reluctantly accept it despite the numerous changes to established canon.

    P.S.

    Ha!

Nearly forgot about the Dalek Invasion of Earth 2150 A.D.

(one of two often forgotten and overlooked 1960's movie spin-offs)

But they hold a special place for me as they were one of the first VHS tapes in my collection back when I was 10 or 11.

I am just thankful that Captain John Sheridan, Delenn and Michael Garibaldi maintained interstellar peace so that the Star Trek gits could play cops and robbers in very limited fashion - kind of like "joy riding."

Many people in the 50s thought we'd be living on the moon by 2000.

People can't predict what will happen tomorrow, or even Thursday. They certainly can't predict what will happen over a century from now. It can be fun to think about, but I just don't think it's very realistic.

The model seems to ignore the ruinous influence of individuals or corporations in the march of progress.

Where is the simulated impact of Hyacinth Bucket? What will skater dudes evolve into? What will the petrochemical and oil industries do to ensure we will remain enslaved to fossil fuels?

BTW, it is incongruous to suggest that hurricanes and typhoons will be at record levels but that cities will be afloat.
