The White House was never "not talking" to the Republicans. That is simply the Republican talking point I've seen them saying in every single interview.

So he's more than three times as approved as the House Republicans. A reasonable conclusion would be that if he talks with them, his rating will head toward theirs, and if he gives in, it will dive even lower.

Yup. There is a very clear line between a compromise (i.e. within a proper venue of negotiation-- which excludes demanding that a standing law be defunded in a budget negotiation) and demanding appeasement.

What's the House republican job approval ratings? You're strangely silent about that.

Looks like the House will be Democratic majority again in 2014.

Republicans have a HISTORIC low approval rating. The lowest ever recorded since Pew began polling. But yeah it is Obama that the 71% of America blame.... oh wait I forgot to carry the R... its the republicans that have that disapproval rating. Cracks? More like a grand canyon of ineptitude.

    Those them all out indeed.

First those anarchist called tea party terrorist.

The good news is after the Republicans showed there ass the very next midterm Clinton and the democrats picked up seats in the house. The First time in history the party in power gained seats in a midterm. Hopefully that will be the same this next year.

As I posted in another thread, the GOP popularity is now even worse, and is deteriorating steadily as the shutdown continues.

In an NBC/WSJ poll released just today, favorability is now down to 24% for the Republican Party, and 21% for the tea party. 53% of Americans fault the GOP for the consequences of the shutdown, while 31% blame Democrats (a 22% gap). NBC/WSJ say the Republican Party has been "badly damaged" by the shutdown and that "Democrats may get a boost from the shutdown's political effects."

Actually, the gap is widening, not narrowing. Republican favorability has been declining steadily since the start of the shutdown. See above.

Something is really suss about the graphs...do you have a link to tabular stats. Shaping and smoothing comes to mind tho this is well beyond even that. On a humourous note, the shape reminds me of distended forceps or even a kitchen implement to grab tater tots and so on. Now, can we take the forceps and EXAMINE THE CORPSE?

I would go that far. Think about it. Everything YOU personally or John Q Public wants isn't always how they act BUT every single whining and bitching article, news piece or meme is the description of something the government does that a certain group is pissed they are not doing. The parks, a persons job, this service or that service. People don't like ALL of government just their piece.

It is kinda like red states bitching that they hate moochers and welfare when in reality they get more than they give to the government... just arent smart enough to figure it out.

As for the DNC....I suspect that y'all might be gloating a little too soon. 18 million is peanuts in the multi-billion dollar game of US electoral politics.

    The DNC is chronically "broke."

It was broke in 2000. It was broke in March 2008. It's broke today.

I guess that's why no Democrats have won any elections in the last 15 years.

I really ought to find out what radio station the neighbor diagonally across the street listens to so loud. Anyway, some talking head on it earlier pointed to a recent poll and said that if the numbers are real, and elections for the House were held today, the Republicans could lose the House even if no Democrat went to the polls.

Yeah Kulio, something like three seats that were being led by pugs were being led by dems at the start and now it is eight races... i wish i had that source but i cant find it. Still it is a long way till this time next year. I have faith the republicans will shit on America over and over again in the next twelve months to keep the American polling acrimony firmly at their throats. .

Guess we'll have to wait until 2014. I have a feeling there will be a lot of house cleaning -- who knows who will come out on top. There are enough old farts that need to retire. The US Congress needs new blood .. new blood that cares about the future and not only getting re-elected.

What makes you think Congressional candidates will be any less concerned with re-election in 2014 than in any other cycle?

In a healthy democracy, it should be half that.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "
