Oops! Kentucky Local NBC Station Catches Rand Paul And Mitch McConnell In Hot Mic Moment Over Shutdown Debate.

Great work by Paducah, KY NBC station WPSD-TV. While setting up for a remote interview with House Minority Leader and KY Senator Mitch McConnell from DC, the station captured this priceless down-low conversation between McConnell and KY Senator Rand Paul after the interview, with the NBC News remote camera still running, and WPSD still recording on their end, via satellite.

Click here for the full story, as well as the video version of the converstation.

McConnell >> Im all wired up here.
Paul >> I just did CNN and I just go over and over again Were willing to compromise. Were willing to negotiate. I dont think they poll tested We wont negotiate. I think its awful for them to say that over and over again.

Paul is referring to Democrats saying they wont negotiate over the bill linking the debt ceiling to funding for the Affordable Care Act.

Paul again to McConell >> I think if we keep saying We wanted to defund it. We fought for that and now were willing to compromise on this, I think they cant. Were gonna. We, I think. Well, I know we dont want to be here. But were gonna win this I think.

WPSD's news director, Bill Evans, said neither Senators office has contacted the station for comment.

I like one comment one poster wrote...

Hey Rand....Win What ? YOU IDIOT ! 800,000 People are Temporaily Un-Employed because of YOU EVIL/Rat Bastards !

They've crashed and burned with this comment. Remember Mitt Romney and his 47% video?

Eavesdropping on the propaganda machine is always fun. Too bad the only people who need to hear this and understand what they are dealing with probably never will. They will have a response soon enough and all their puppets can spread the disinformation and repeat it over and over on all of the websites.

I suspect they are going through archived soundbites as we speak to find Obama saying "We're willing to compromise" in a completely unrelated circumstance to "prove" that it was nothing.

it didn't sound like he really said anything noteworthy/shocking to me, unless I missed something.

What interested me about this exchange was how clueless McConnell and Paul were about public perceptions. They seem to believe they have the upper hand in public opinion on the government shutdown, when every poll shows the polar opposite.

It reminded me of the Republican certainty that Mitt Romney was going to win the last presidential election, when every non-Republican poll predicted the opposite. Every one! And yet, Republicans seemed incapable of seeing beyond their own talking points and their own fabricated reality.

Exactly. These Republicans live in a circle-jerk echo chamber of their own beliefs and preconceived notions about everything. Of the people I talk with, nobody gives a good goddamn about the Republicans' feeling the need to shut down a law and system that's funded by default anyway (it falls under the expenses that the government will fund come hell or high water, and is therefore not dependent on the Legislative Branch authorizing funding) and is already in effect.

Far more people look at this whole situation, and all they can see is **government shutdown**, and **DC bickering**, and **political dog and pony show at working people's/taxpayer expense**. And they're absolutely pissed about it.

Republicans very frequently seem to operate either under the belief that a big mandate of Americans support them, or that the people who don't support them "don't really count" (think O'Reilly's rant about people who "want stuff" from the government, or Sarah Palin's frequent mention of "real America") or some combination of the two. All that really puzzles me is when people out in the general public seem surprised when something like this happens and makes it obvious that they really do think that, they're not just pretending, such as with Romney's 47% comment.

Do people not really believe in the whole.. "when people show you their true colors, believe them"?

heard this--it's great---also like the audio and video of asshole congressman having a 3 year old temper tantrum about wanting something but not know what that is and old senile congressman telling park ranger to let vets into WW2 memorial and park ranger saying it's closed---and guy yelling at him--it's closed because you closed it. Would really be funny except these idiots are running the country.

I don't know why we all think that somehow in the past Congressmen were somehow more altruistic and noble. They weren't. What's destabilized the situation is the deal old white penised 'Pubs made with the crazy to save their own asses. Which are now being thoroughly bitten.

They managed to fuck us all over in the process. Boner could end this tomorrow - all he would have to do, all ANY of them have to do is stand up to the crazy. But no, Boner doesn't want to admit he got played, 'Pubs in general don't want to admit they were wrong, it's willful, avoidable catastrophe which is the most damning thing of all.

As a former resident of Kentucky the state must be very proud of having the biggest clowns in the Senate Mitch and Rand.

Doesn't seem like a big deal ... maybe a thread on how Reid betrayed the confidence of private emails between him and Boehner.

I think the difference is that as time has gone by, Congresscritters have been less and less in touch with the way things really are in the country.

As I said elsewhere, we have a wus in the White House and another in the Speaker's chair. The result is chaos.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "
