    Alarm Bells for Republicans

It appears the Republican über-message is suffering.

‘Alarm bells’ ringing over Republicans' flagging outreach efforts

Party strategists and a number of Republican lawmakers are concerned about fallout from the GOP’s handling of the government shutdown, public infighting between lawmakers, attempts to reach out to female and minority voters and an overall lack of a positive vision for the country.

“In terms of the big-picture messaging, there are alarm bells out there,” said former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, one of the co-authors of the RNC’s Growth and Opportunity Project report.

A pox upon their own house?

Seems to touch most of the bases. "Public infighting" is so much more discreet than "legislative arsonists" (h/t Nancy Pelosi).

It's amazing that they think they can do anything without a vision for the country. Almost all Ronald Reagan had was vision, which sort of proves how crucial it is.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

    I like the line:

top Republicans are worried their party is failing to meet its goals.

    Cuccinelli (VA) appears affected.

But with national polls showing a majority of voters blaming Republicans for government dysfunction, Mr. Cuccinelli has a problem that worsens each day the shutdown continues and brings more economic pain to Virginians, analysts and Republican strategists said.

With the sway of the federal government in VA's economy, no wonder.

Once people know that the President refuses to negotiate or even talk people will not blame republicans.

The press has been doing a great job so far of carrying water for the President and it will probably continue.

Harry Reid today said he couldn't care less about saving a child from cancer. He was more concerned about 1100 people at an air base in his state losing out of a few days of pay ... which they probably will get anyway.

Since Obama tried to lock the WWII veterans out of the WWII Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial that is not going to play well locally around America.

2013 is nothing like 1995 -- Clinton and Gingrich talked and worked together daily for an ending.

Obama will not. Obama will not lead.

Like I said in another thread Obama has become a very spiteful man.

It's like agreeing to buy a house and then after the deal is made you decided you want to pay less so you refuse to sign the papers. ACA is the LAW, there is nothing else to discuss or negotiate and if Obama is being spiteful, its about goddamn time. The "'murican people" who don't like it will just have to get over it because there ain't nothing they can about it.

Jack lead =/= surrender on every imaginable bit of policy and give in to all minority party demands on absolutely every piece of legislation. And if the situation were reversed you would not be arguing this position.

We did not vote him in to give us a Republican Administration.

Maybe they'll like him better for actually showing a spine for once.

I'm glad the President is finally realizing it's impossible to work with these house republicans. He's saying "fuck you" to them. Good for him.

The republicans are realizing they've backed themselves into a corner, and the country is realizing how worthless the congressional republicans are. The only solution is to vote them out of office. It will be hard to do because of all their gerrymandering, but it's possible.

Quinnipiac says 72% of Americans oppose shutting down the government in order to stop Obamacare.

The longer this goes on, the more it is going to hurt Republicans. And, IMO, this is likely to go on a long time.

    I agree with Kuli.

As far as public perception is concerned, the worst thing the president could do right now is to compromise with Republicans. Republicans are seen as throwing a hissy fit, at the moment. And a parent who doesn't doesn't stand up to his misbehaving children garners no respect.

Not only would it be constitutionally inappropriate for the president to compromise here, but he would (appropriately) lose respect if he did.

Yes. For once, he's actually acting like a leader.

I was channel checking the AM and came across Fox News. There was this painted up blonde who was bad mouthing the President of the United States, putting all the blame for the shutdown on him. Her mouth hit Mach I while she rambled away.

The man sitting next to her reminded her that this was a law enacted 4 years ago, passed by the house, senate and signed by the President. He also reminded her that a small fraction of the republican party... the tea party..... that was the one shut down the government. He would have said more but she started talking over him, much louder than he could and the Fox host stopped the one-sided conversation and cut to commercial within seconds.

Pure propaganda. No wonder Fox viewers are the most misinformed people around.
