Guitar players - how does he do this?

At the beginning of the video, his right arm is hanging down and not doing anything. His left hand is over the top of the neck and his index finger presses against the string. Still, he seems to strum a single note, but I can't see any fingers doing it.

How is he making the sound?

With an electric guitar plugged into an amp, or even not just tapping a chord with your finger can produce a sound.

I learned that when I learned to play the solo to one of my favourite songs, there is no strumming, just tapping the strings on the neck.

To make the guitar make a noise, you merely need to get the string to vibrate. It's usually done with the right hand (with most guitarists) along the body of the guitar, by plucking or strumming the strings. But you can make the string vibrate by tapping it with your left hand up on the fret. Usually, the left hand merely presses against the strings to alter the pitch, but by tapping the string, you can set it vibrating and play a note. It does take a fair amount of practice to get a clear pitch this way.

Thanks. Now that I know what to look for, I can see him tapping the string rather than merely pressing it.

    And thanks to Lex, too.

I don't think I understand twerking enough to compare them.

    Here's the definition:

    Twerking
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Twerking is a type of dancing in which the dancer, usually a woman, shakes her hips in an up-and-down bouncing motion, causing the dancer's buttocks to shake, "wobble" and "jiggle".[1] According to the Oxford Dictionary Online, to twerk is "to dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance".

I only discovered it because I have a bit of a crush on Samo. He's a singer with the a capella group 'Perpetuum Jazille'. I was surprised but very pleased to discover that he plays the guitar as well. He's as talented as he is cute and sexy.

It's called tapping and Guitar Player magazine gives credit to to Steve Hackett--an inventive rock guitar god who influenced many. I'm going to see him play tonight--what a co-in-ki-dink.

I noticed that, too. If you've ever watched any Perpetuum Jazille videos on YouTube, Samo is the one wearing white suspenders. He's short, he's cute...

... and he has a butt that goes on forever:

It's easy, all you need to do is tap the strings, and that gets them vibrating.
I've been playing guitar since I was 16, and I'm completely self taught.
