The Krell (monsters from the Id) from The Forbidden Planet. Maybe not. The Krell weren't nasty enough.

    My apologies to the Krell.

Jack, a persistent and ongoing attempt to turn any thread into a discussion of Obama's illegitimacy, incompetency or a 2004 election re-debate has been what I've witnessed from you in really any discussion since I joined JUB.

I don't understand what you think the point of a "baiting" thread would be when your reaction to any discussion is the same whether it's on topic, humor-satire or anything else. "I hate Obama, he's bad. LOOK, LOOK HERE AT THIS! DO YOU DENY IT?"

Typically, the only reaction that you have to a very light hearted thread is vitriolic Obama hate...but why don't you just select which constituency might actually help the GOP win the next elections.

Funny that no one has chosen Asgard....probably because they know that there's no way that the GOP could win over an intelligent and benign bloc that clearly falls to the left of the intergalactic political spectrum.
I'm shocked that 1 person voted Ancients, in light of the 0 votes for Asgard.

Would love to hear that person explain their thought on that one.

Person who voted Ancients, speak up!

    These people would vote GOP?!

Then again, maybe the 1 vote for Ancients meant the Ori.

Going to their own extinction out of reason and pacifism while trying to avoid conflict with a religious enemy just doesn't strike me as very GOP.

Though you could argue they voted against their own best interests.

And now now let's be fair! They didn't refuse to help "little people", they refused once they had powers similar to those of gods from using them unethically to interfere in a partisan manner and create good outcomes in the physical world-- though yes, that was a gray line, especially when beings with similar powers were interfering. You could argue that the SG-1 team figured out they had to do almost exactly the same thing when they encountered much less advanced aliens and had trying to "help them" blow up in a million ways.

Unlike that one, this thread actually does invite light-hearted speculation about which alien races, the GOP has left to try to clinch them a win in the Presidential elections.

The ascended to get away from the wraith! Running away from a mess you made sounds exactly like a Republican - ignoring it and lying about it, yup.

If I recall correctly different pockets of Ancients ascended at different points in time to get away from different crises. Or rather, "doing it to get away from something" doesn't seem strictly accurate as ascension was something they were evolving and working towards for a long period of time. Like how they created that one pocket in time in a cave so they could go in and live some agrarian simple life and meditate until they were capable of doing it. You're right that some did it to get away from the Wraith but many did it to get away from the Ori and the epidemic the Ori later unleashed. And the Ori had done it for power.

I think given that the Ancients were more or less eradicated from two different galaxies with, so far as we can tell, no real consistent friend in the universe but the Asgard (who were less advanced and had their own problems), running away from messes you created doesn't seem strictly accurate. I always thought of ascension as more "like" an afterlife than just a safe haven they were hiding from all their problems in. They seemed to have no real interest in returning.

Where you're right is that once they did ascend and had a lot of power, they refused to use it to interefere or play gods... but there were reasons for that.

    IN CONCLUSION I DISAGREE!

I agree they're an excellent choice, lmao. In fact though the show never said it outright I thought it was pretty clear that rogue branch of the gov't and Senators that were working with the Goa'uld were Republicans.

I didn't start the most recent thread.

    Evidently JUB has new rules.

It's still a baiting thread. No way could I start a thread like this about democrats -- it would be locked up immediately. My thread about Obama was going to party the night of the Navy Yard tragedy was locked. The Politico article was updated and the party postposed after I posted the thread.

Jack, that you would make a suggestion that the President parties over dead Americans is revolting. If you cannot see that then it is no wonder you have no idea what humor and hate is on these boards.

I know the specific types of species on offer was discussed earlier; however i would have to go with Klingons. The self flagellation, desire for war and animal like love make them ideal republicans.

The party was canceled - but it did not stop him from making a highly political speech the morning of the attack. He was extremely nasty in his comments -- he should have rescheduled his speech for another day according to most democrats and republicans in DC.

I once saw some magazine or website describe Klingons in a way I found amusing... it said they were like 24th century Vikings, who fly about in ships only ever thinking about war, drinking and singing really bad songs.

I see the republicans are now changing their tune on climate change. Instead of deny, deny deny, they're saying it exists but it's not our fault, it's China and India's fault. They're also saying that China and India won't be doing anything about climate change so it doesn't do any good for us to start.

Brilliant plan...... now they can woo those who are fighting climate change while not stepping on the oil industry's toes.

lmao, after outsourcing all their manufacturing and production to China and India, they blame them for creating the pollution problem?

Chris Hayes just had a piece on it a few minutes ago on his show. He featured clips of how the new and improved GOP don't deny it anymore, just blame it on someone else.

Honestly I think "they're irresponsible" as an argument could have been made no matter what they'd done, simply because they were so much more advanced than everyone else out there.

Honestly I think "they're irresponsible" as an argument could have been made no matter what they'd done, simply because they were so much more advanced than everyone else out there.
The issue is that they didn't stop interfering -- they were interfering busybodies! It was sheer arrogance to decide that if they shouldn't interfere, they darned sure would punish anyone else who tried.

Kinda like claiming to be pacifists but going to war to stop others from going to war.

If they hadn't interfered the SG galaxy would have been wiped out a few times just in the course of SG-1 though. :/

So (smirk) they interfered when it suited them. So much for following their own rules. Now who does that sound like?

They also let Anubis do whatever the fuck he wanted why? To punish the waitress chick who's name escapes me. How many millions of little people had to die to stop her from letting a tiny few into the 1%?

You could argue they stood to gain absolutely nothing by helping out anyone in the Milky Way (or elsewhere) in most of the cases they did intervene.

I think you guys judge them too harshly.

Yep. They were a great illustration of the saying that all that's needed for evil to triumph is for good to do nothing -- except they went farther, and prevented others on the side of good from doing anything. Effectively, they were allies of all the evil jerks running around tromping on people.

    What "Romulan debate"?

You want to know if I voted for Romulans? The answer is yes -- because they, like the GOP, are very good at being self-righteous and racist.

Oh no no, I asked who was the 1 vote for the Vulcans and how could they possibly explain that vote.

And people said it was clearly a plot by the Romulans, lol.

We wondered if it was you.

I must have missed that part.

I wish the GOP would pull in the Vulcans -- it might raise the general level of education by a half dozen grade levels.
