^ I'm quite the saucy one, FPNY!

I can't wait....frank, palbert and Rickrock will be here later today and we're having dinner later after we meet at the hotel frank and palbert are staying. Rick's coming in a little later so we're still not sure he'll be able to join us for dinner tonight, but we're hoping. To anyone who is going to attend, most likely locals by now, don't hesitate to shoot a PM to me with suggestions and palbert as well once he gets in later(some of you may well have his # too and you can request mine if it's convenient as well). Wish it could be bigger but it still is going to be a great JUB weekend in the Big Apple!

Yes, it was dinner with all parties mentioned - including rickrock, who got here with more than an hour to spare. So far it's already been fun. We "went Cuban" for dinner tonight. Palbert brought up Cuban food, and Sausy already knew that I like Cuban food (and so does he), so rickrock was willing to experiment and he was pretty pleased too.

FPNY, I should send phone numbers for those who are here, in hopes that you can figure how to meet us on Saturday afternoon as you mentioned. That will probably be the most "populous" day of the meet. I'll send Sausy and my phone #s. I hope you can meet us.

[post delayed until I know more...oops]

Palbert had to leave, hopefully only very temporarily, I'll PM Sausy and rickrock. I'm not saying much more here; I just hope all turns out OK. I'll let him tell me what to post, or he'll do so. No, this has nothing to do with the JUB meet - the same thing would have happened in Maine if he hadn't come.

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

We had a great time Friday, and we look forward to great times with whoever can join us Saturday, as well as possibly Sunday morning/noon (or thereabouts) for breakfast or brunch. We spent most of the late morning (after initially getting together for the Friday part) on the Jersey City waterfront near the Hyatt, then we went into Manhattan on the PATH, detraining at the World Trade Center stop. Tops on the agenda was going to the 9-11 Memorial (WTC), and the tickets were free with a suggested donation, which I made for us. We had to wait until 2:30 before we could get in, so time for some walking around, and lunch at a cool diner called George's also downtown not far from there. Good authentic food "basically" from scratch, exactly what I like to find in my travels. The WTC Memorial was very moving, somber - and in good taste and remembrance - and our group was me PLUS Sausy, Rickrock (from Ohio), Criostoir (most of the day), and SpectatingLoner (lesser amount of time, work commitments). SL had to leave before we could see the Memorial, but he lives only one Borough away and he can get back easily, and he works in Manhattan. Palbert had to stay behind and recuperate from his earlier scare which thankfully wasn't anything dire after all, and he got some seriously needed rest.

We never got out of downtown Friday, but that was definitely OK anyway.

Criostoir had far more than "casual" connections with the original World Trade Center. He actually worked in one of the towers in 2001 - well above where one of the planes smashed in. He could have very easily been there before the disaster, and he "wouldn't have been here, talking to" us. It just so happened that he didn't go to work as early as he could have...which was more fate than anybody could have imagined. He found the names of some people he worked with, on the memorial panels, and it was definitely a moving event for him, and a priceless event as well.

We did considerable walking and looking at cool buildings and places such as City Hall, and some newer skyscraper with architectural "waves" in its construction (Sausy knows the name - I forgot), Woolworth Building, many other nice buildings, Wall Street, etc. I love the mix of old and new as well, and Rickrock had the same reaction as I did the first time I ever saw Wall Street (42 years ago): very surprised the street is so narrow. As I originally did, I think he expected 3 or 4 lanes of traffic in each direction.

Eventually back on the Jersey City side, we had yet more good food at City Diner. And, an invention of Criostoir's, if we see somebody who is REALLY HOT and nice looking, we say "MEANWHILE..." and the more inflected or emphatically we say it, the hotter the guy. "Meanwhile" is one of those totally innocuous words which nobody notices anybody else saying, LOL. That word was uttered by us a number of times.

There are several people who we're all hoping we can meet up with tomorrow. The day will mostly or close to entirely be spent east of The Hudson as well. I know it will be All Good whatever we do, and I hope that all of the "possibles" will manage to join with us as well, including Criostoir and SpectatingLoner who could have only portions of today with us. Indications are, too, that Palbert will be ready to be able to hang with us for at least most of the day as well, and he is going to an opera at The Met (Cosi Fan Tutti) which is a staple of his frequent trips to New York City. Well, actually more frequent when he lived much closer than he does now, I guess...

    What fun!!

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

Basically everything is okay with palbert now, he had a bit of a health scare last night due to a reaction to medication he was taking and was unable to join us in going into Lower Manhattan as he told by doctors to take it easy. He stayed back at his hotel and rested most of the day, then felt better and texted us if we wanted dinner, which we did. Definitely wanted to spend some more time with him We had spent the day around the new World Trade Center and that immediate neighborhood and spent an extended time during the afternoon at the Memorial there. We were joined by Criostioir near the hotel and palbert spent some time with us before we left to take the ferry into Lower Manhattan, which was a really nice experience.

We were able to meet up by the World Trade Center with The Spectating Loner, he had lunch with us at a nice nearby diner after we got tickets for the next afternoon before having to go into work. Criostioir, frankfrank, Rickrock and myself spent nearly an hour and a half at the Memorial... Crioistior worked at the World Trade Center at the time of the 9/11 attack and lost some good friends from work, a number of whom we were able to find listed on the engravings surrounding the pools at the Memorial. We then walked around the neighborhood for awhile but Chriostoir had to leave us for the day, passed by the Frank Gehry designed residential tower on Spruce Street and Beekman and passed by the historic City Hall building and the Woolworth Tower among others.

We went back across the Hudson to have dinner, the other guys did not sleep that well before , especially palbert who was briefly hospitalized and frankfrank who is rooming with him. After a nice meal at a diner just a couple of blocks from the hotel we went back to the hotel and spent an hour in the lounge in nice conversation. After that Rick left for his hotel nearby and I went back home. While palbert feels much better we are going to basically see how strong palbert feels, not going to do much strenuous walking or anything. We may meet with a couple of people tomorrow in NYC, perhaps go to Brooklyn in the afternoon, or take in the Mets game at Citi Field. Palbert loves the opera and he definitely wishes to keep to his plans and go to the Met... we definitely don't want to frustrate anyone who expected more of a partying type of meet but the demographics of most of us are 50 or more, not younger and bar-club oriented. There are so many things to do in NYC and the out of towners who made the meet are more looking to see places of interest and cultural venues in the city. We wish we could please all... as I said the last thing we want to do is cause frustration but party type stuff, like bar or club hopping just isn't on the agenda this time.

I saw two different times for the Mets game...paper said 7, looking at the schedule online says
4:10pm.... would be ideal if the game is indeed earlier and we can be back in NYC by 8pm to meet at a bar just to spend some time with interested Jubbers like Ra Kroma or FPNY. I really want as many Jubbers to meet as possible, like I had said the general consensus of those coming for the bulk of the meet wasn't bar hopping or partying but we certainly want to spend some time, Saturday evening would be ideal, with you guys. I can say for certain any plans for the Mets game will be kibboshed if it is a later start. I believe Frank has given you our numbers and my cellphone battery is charging so it will be fully ready to handle a lot tomorrow. Hopefully we can see you all then, it's great to meet some real New Yorkers while we enjoy a nice slice of the Big Apple!

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

Nice seeing two different summaries of Saturday (mine and Sausy's), as we write differently and with different flavour. The Mets game time 4:10 is, I think, the ideal time - because at least one guy is meeting us in the evening, and I think everybody else is in the morning or early. Why is the game at 4:10, though? Is it to avoid some televising conflicts?

You mention FPNY, Sausy, in an evening context - did he send you a note/PM that he would meet us at that time? Whatever time he meets us, I look forward to it eagerly! Same with anybody else meeting with us.

For those of you who have my phone number (and not all of you do), my phone is now turned on and ready for calls!

I'm on my way downstairs and to the pier park next door as soon as I send this. I still can't remember its name, LOL.

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

The meet is over. What a great time! Those who didn't come, couldn't come, tried but didn't make it, etc., missed some good times. With Palbert my roommate during the meet, we (including, also, Rickrock, Sausy) met Thad1527 and we hung around the pier park next to the hotel. Thad was the true "Day Tripper" leaving Phila. on the train around 7am, and he's heading back to Phila. (or perhaps waiting in Newark for the train) as I write this. We were hoping that Criostoir could re-join us today, but he couldn't; at that point we ventured into the Big Apple, just in time to all meet with former JUB member chance1 at a very laid-back and cozy place in Queens (The Beer Garden), where he met with us in spite of some commitments well before eveningtime. In all respects we enjoyed each others' company, and we all felt fortunate that such a meeting was possible. We were going to do Central Park (well, some PART of it, not the whole thing) and/or a Mets game, but none of that would have been as much fun as meeting with chance1 who actually stuck around with us considerably longer than we expected. Cool!!

Before the journey across the rivers, we ate at the City Diner in Jersey City near the Hyatt (2 blocks), and the food was impressively authentic. But, yes, diner food IS often that way.

Trains took somewhat longer than usual today because, due to construction, the usual express trains became "locals."

Later, palbert went to an opera at The Met [Cosi Fan Tutti] and enjoyed seeing what he saw, but he left early to hang with us some more. Meanwhile we ate at a Brazilian restaurant, Brazil Grill on West 48th at 8th Avenue, and the food was incredible. (The "worst" reaction was from rickrock, who said the food was "good" but not extraordinarily or particularly memorable to his taste, but I found it to be incredible.) This was just after meeting with FPNY (and his very long-time partner Rick) and after sitting around and resting for a while in a very cool bar on the 24th(?) floor at 52nd and Broadway. Funny thing, just as soon as we finished our meal, palbert called us after leaving the opera, and it was his turn to eat...he greatly enjoyed his "some kind of steak" etc. Definitely a good meal, and I think also a bargain for what I expected in Midtown, though made pricier by getting drinks, LOL.

There wasn't much more, this ran the "clock" past 10, and palbert was still rather strung out from his medication reaction early in the Meet, so we got back to the New Jersey side and we said our goodbyes.

Such a great time, with a great bunch of guys, and unfortunately connections were tried and missed with at least RaKroma and RicanDAB. We didn't get to Brooklyn, either, where very possibly we could have run into Spectating Loner again. Thad1527 was our real transit guide during the day; NYC transit is still rather a mystery to most of the rest of us, and Sausy doesn't go into The City all that often either.

We're discussing possibly another meet in spring. "Watch this space."

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

Thanks Frank for that update on the day, perfectly stated synopsis of the day's events. I did provide a bit of unintentional comic relief,lol... not getting back on the train quick enough going back from Queens (after we saw chance1) to Manhattan, as the door closed as I momentarily wondered " Is this the right train"? I It was, indeed and alas it was pulling out of the station, and I wasn't! I looked at the guys as if saying" fuck...train couldn't even wait an extra second or two"! Was going to call the guys and tell them to just get off at the stop we had decided on getting into Manhattan(near Central Park) but Frank called first to tell me to get on the next train in one of the last cars, they had gotten off at the next stop so they would join me after in that car. Train pulls in, I get on, next stop comes and I peek outside to se the guys and of course don't see anyone,lol... I couldn't reach the particular car in time without risking the train would leave again quickly,(NYC trains are somewhat longer than New Jersey transit trains) but they got on assuming I would stay on. Now it made sense, lol but leave it to me not to just let things be. I got off the train not seeing them getting on and called them and finally just arranged to meet them at that Central Park area stop as originally planned. Things got better as I took the next train(only a couple minutes wait) and met with Frank and Rick at that station... coming off the train I was so glad to turn around and see that they remained in the station to wait for me. Thad was bringing palbert back to the hotel as he needed to get back to rest up a bit before the opera and another mini adventure was about to begin!

We weren't sure if we were supposed to go back to Jersey City first or wait in Manhattan for Thad.... after we reached the Chambers street exit near the World Trade Center we tried dialing him, finally getting through and told him to meet us by the WTC exit at Church and Vesey streets as it is right in the line of site getting out of the WTC station exit coming in from New Jersey. We walked to the area, enjoying the atmosphere of Lower Manhattan( love Midtown but a decidedly different vibe, really love it as well). Thad calls us to say he's coming out of the station... now how was he supposed to find us. I boneheadedly said to him, I'll be the guy waving my cellphone , which would be helpful if there weren't HUNDREDS of New York area folks and tourists going through that same pathcoming out of and going into the station. Waving or not, still not going to be an easy accomplishment to see me. I told him over the phone to watch for us, he was coming up to the area and I'll still wave my phone. Finally, not seeing each other at first as he approaches us and I approach him corner he nearly passes us as he's concentrating on my voice and I am to his I turn and he turns and we notice each other... I smiled and said, "THERE you are"! To which Thad responded" Wherever you are, you ARE there"!

Then Frankfrank, Rickrock, Thad and myself went to meet FPNY and his partner at a very lovely Midtown hotel, modern design oriented and very tasteful without being exorbitant( for Manhattan, lol) and went up to the open air lounge which had a breathtaking view of the Times Square area. We all decided to try one of the ethnic restaurants nearby, and chose the Brazil Grill as mentioned on 48th Street and 8th Avenue. OMG, that was an inspired choice as we had an incredibly good meal... Rick enjoyed it but wasn't as enthralled with his meal, finding the meat somewhat tougher than expected. Otherwise just rave reviews for nearly everything else... FPNY and his partner as well as Thad ordered the rodizio, or Brazilian barbecue style which was a meat feast of succulently grilled pork, beef, chicken, even turkey. Frank, Rick and I ordered from the menu... Frank and I choosing and immensely enjoying from the fixed price menu a fantastic black bean stew with pork, sausage, rice and collard greens. First served was the black bean soup... oh so good we both really liked. For dessert, a sinfully scrumptious passionfruit mousse. Adding to the wonderful eating was that several of the staff, were amazingly gorgeous young men...the greeter and a bartender and a server in particular.

Lewis joined us suddenly(and happily) getting out early from the opera. Loves opera, and loved hearing the voices of those singing this particular opera by Mozart (Cosi Fan Tutti) but doesn't like Mozart's operas! As he said afterwards, "I heard the voices" , which he found amazing. He caught a taxi from Lincoln Center after hearing about a half hour of the opera and made it to the Brazil Grill and had a very enjoyable meal of his own, a delicious steak( it was getting late and didn't want us to have to spend too much time there)and we all had some nice conversation on the street afterwards on a lovely, mild early fall night in the bright lights of New York City. Thad came with us on the ride back, as he was going to the train station at the last stop in Newark and we all hugged when we got off at the hotel stop at Exchange Place. Afterwards all remaining... frankfrank, palbert, rick and myself hugged outside the Exchange Place Station and remembered fondly a short, sweet, unpredictable but very memorable time this weekend. I will write a bit more later but thank you all for making the trip here and making for a tremendous JUB weekend in the New York City area! And as well to all those locals we did get to meet.... Criostoir (now we can pronounce your name...yay!) what a memorable afternoon we all spent at the World Trade Center Memorial... so glad we could find the names engraved of those people you worked with who died in the attack and who had made such a lifetime impression on you.

The Spectating Loner... our plans were changing so much between Friday and Saturday we didn't get the opportunity to come to the arts festival in Brooklyn, but we had such a great time in the short time we all spent together. Glad you could join us for lunch, I know your work schedule is a very hectic one but it was well worth it that you could find the time to join us for awhile. Great diner we ate lunch in and all of us definitely thought that as sexy as your brief, occasional pics here on the boards showed you, in person you're even sexier. You may be a loner type by nature, but guarantee you have a lot of people spectating to get a good look at you in the very best way!

chance1.. yep, we all met with the notorious chance1 at a really nice beer garden place near his apartment in Queens. He didn't bite, we weren't all throwing stuff at each other but found him a lot more both complex and yet down to earth as anyone really wanted to see here. Great time in the back beer garden just enjoying the festivities there, we all talked for an hour and a half enjoying great conversation and also great views of hot guys. It was almost non stop...even leaving there were a number of gorgeous guys of different types coming in, going out or just walking on the street. Oh goodness, this weekend was very good times indeed for guy watching! Chance graciously offered to go back to his apartment and get his car to drive us to the train station as palbert does, as earlier mentioned, walk with a cane due to a problem with the circulation in one of his legs. We packed four in the back as palbert joined Chance in the front and all gave him a nice big hug when he dropped us off for a terrific visit.

Finally , we really enjoyed meeting FPNY and his longtime partner. Such gracious, fun guys and it was a pleasure for all of us to meet one of the longest tenured Jubbers. The meal at the Brazil Grill was unforgettable and thanks so much for joining us!

Had a family anniversary party last night so just after all the excitement of meeting those Jubbers who were either fully or partially able to meet this weekend plus that was exhausted from posting last night. But will have quite a bit more in observations (including the Brazil Grill, FDNY)over the next few days. There will be pics too... just suck at posting them (so much easier on Facebook, at least for me) any help in guiding this photo dummy by PM would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys for your comments here and well wishes... we all did have a great time together and I really enjoyed spending a lot of time with palbert, frankfrank, Rickrock who were all able to make the meet from outside the area and all our locals who were able to stop by( or in the case of chance1, we were able to visit in Queens, NYC at the Beer Garden). That pic of palbert is a great one.... as much fun as it is, the Beer Garden( where the pic was taken) was just in total an amazing, fun experience with lots of conversation and eye candy. And on the eye candy part, I mean LOTS. Palbert, frankfrank, Rickrock and myself definitely will NEVER forget the great times at the Beer Garden!

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

Despite the medication caused scare overnight Friday, palbert was a trouper and determined to do all he could with us. I was worried about how much walking he could be okay with, but when he was able to join us he did fine and we didn't do anything that would be pushing it. Was impressed very much by palbert.... educated, incredibly funny, cultured, just an amazing tour de force of a man and I'm glad we had the opportunity to get to know him a little better and immensely enjoy his company. I started communicating with Lewis by PM and by phone in the run up to the actual meet.... damn I was intrigued to meet him and so glad he came on down and really left an indelible impression that I will always remember fondly with his presence, that often biting wit, sharp intellect and yet down to earth genuineness that ain't easily duplicated. I do also hope Lewis that you take care of yourself and be able to enjoy life for many years to come as only you can! Meanwhile.. (He knows what I mean, more about that to come!

Rick is from the Cleveland area, found out his age and absolutely couldn't believe it... we all thought he looks a good ten years younger! Very nice, decent guy who is very close to his family... respectful and a gentleman. So happy he made the trip (by car, no less)here to the New York area and just wish we could have all done Central Park together.

Frankfrank I've known since the St. Louis meet and also was at the Las Vegas and Portland meets with him. As well he has made a couple of visits on his East Coast travels to my home city (Jersey City, New Jersey) and is always a unique, good natured, decent, great humored guy. His fondness for interesting word or phrase riffs just about always leaves me smiling, sometimes laughing pretty damn heartily. We talk on the phone occasionally and always love our conversations, very much wide ranging and fun!

Thad 1527, whom Frank and I met at the Portland meet a couple of years ago could only make it for Saturday but it made for a wonderful day for us together! Ted( his real name) is so humorous, positive, genuine and fun plus he knew the New York area in terms of transportation better than any of us! He's from the Philly area and lived around there most of his life but has lived for fairly lengthy periods in the Central New Jersey area. His work frequently brings him all around New Jersey and the New York City area so he's learned quite a bit about train and bus routes along the way... definitely came in handy going to Queens on Saturday for our meeting with chance1 (Bryan). We all shared a goodbye hug on the train back to the station of Lewis' and Frank's hotel at Exchange Place... he stayed on for the last stop at Newark Penn Station for the train back to Philly.. great times always seem so short!

Frank and I spoke briefly to Ra Kroma Saturday evening while outside the Brazil Grill. Unfortunately, I gather Ra Kroma to be a younger guy and he had indicated interest in clubbing and bar hopping. It was getting late and of all the guys attending, I was the twink at 50! Funny thing though clubbing and bar hopping may have not been their thing, the other guys were so energetic and their stamina compared to mine...well just hope I have half that energy when I turn 65! I do have to say though, and I told Ra Kroma, that I should have coordinated things better. We do wish we had more people committed to attending, and it would have been more practical to have some separate group events like dancing, clubbing and bar hopping if they wished. So many things changed though even as the meet when on, and I had not wanted to have a meet so rigidly planned either. Hopefully one day there could be a somewhat larger meet that would include times to party, here or again elsewhere.

    More stuff to come....

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

Goodness, what to say after all of the above?

A great time was had by all! Will that do?

It was terrific meeting the many JUB handles in person and developing an added layer to the JUB experience.

I was as surprised that the group was up for trying Cuban food as I was surprised to actually get it in Jersey City at Azucar. Living in Miami for years I know it and we got it.

An equal surprise was the group landing at the Brazil Grill. Familiar with Brazilian cuisine I found it most accomplished and accommodating of my hurried state to get out to rejoin the fellows, particularly FPNY and his partner. I left Cosi fan tutte early having sampled the blissfulness of the artists' voices.

I was so happy that the focus of the Meet became each other and was not limited to how high the granite and glass had been stacked.

A highlight was meeting Chance1, of recent JUB memory, and his taking us to the Astoria Beer Garden. I always enjoyed my interactions with Chance and found him totally delightful in person. The Garden was its own trip (as you can see from the pic posted, kindly taken by a young woman in the party seated next). I thought the best name I could give the photo was "Father Time." I promise to lose some weight; the beard is an experiment.

For those with disabilities or mobility impairment plan ahead for the NYC subway system. PATH and Jersey Light Rail are quite convenient.

Have to apologize for not being able to meet with TheSpectatingLoner, whom I really would have liked to meet.

    Post more later: laptop glitching.

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

    Post, POST-JUB-meet:

The great times of this past Friday and Saturday (and part of Thursday) continue to stay with me. For me, personally, my plans for Sunday [yesterday] were ALWAYS surprisingly fluid and fickle, even well before JUB-meet specifics happened and changed.

Only nine days ago, I had NIO PLANS WHATSOEVER for Sunday, other than showing up in Metuchen, New Jersey sometime later in the day. A small side trip toward the shore, but not to and/or along it, , was a possibility, then the political group I was going to introduce myself to on the 22nd was canceled, and got moved to the 29th at 3PM. Then, I found out about the Hoboken Art and Music Festival which really appealed to me greatly (not to mention that Hoboken slightly edges out even Princeton as my favorite place in New Jersey)...and the JUB departure brunch. Ir originally looked like the brunch and the political meeting were going to very possibly "shake hands" and leave me with NO time to go to Hoboken. (Oh, also, Palbert's hopes that I could take him to LaGuardia came up into the mix as well.) Sunday looked impossibly complicated and I really didn't want to miss Hoboken, but it appeared to be unavoidable.

Then, the Manhattan political meeting got canceled - AGAIN!! The leader has bronchitis, two of the important group people are in Providence this weekend, there was cat sitting, there was babysitting...Susan (the friend who strongly suggested this to me) said that I could go, but I might be the whole group! And, then, we realized late Saturday that there would be no Sunday brunch, because almost nobody could be there. After taking Palbert to the airport indeed, my Sunday was still ENTIRELY FULL, and I was able to spend a very leisurely, laid back and chill afternoon at the huge street fair, which stretches along Washington Street for nearly half the length of the (small but densely-populated) city.

(The Manhattan thing is rescheduled to a date I can still get there. Is the third time a charm?)

I had a number of random conversations with artists, etc. and it was just a lot of fun. I love these things, but they are ALMOST ALWAYS at the wrong time of year (June, July, August), for example the immense street art fair in Ann Arbor is in the middle of fuckin' JULY. No, I'm not doing that. My luck is always that any time I go to one of these things in the summer, the temperature is GUARANTEED to be at least 10 degrees above normal. After the art fair, I got to Metuchen pretty much as scheduled originally. That was the ONLY original part of Sunday that stayed entirely intact through the period.

Three of us had a great time, with all our minds taking these crazy, unpredictable, and sometimes incomprehensible twists and turns, which continued through the movie EVIL BONG which, of course, should be watched with one's mind in an appropriate state hahaha!!

Whee....this is fun! My times spent in New Jersey are always a hell of a treat.

Meanwhile, back on topic...I'm sure somebody will go there, LOL.

Oh...while in Hoboken, at one point I left the festival, and walked to the far north end of town. (Hoboken is small, only one square mile.) I got in touch with Criostoir too late (with my changed plans) for him to meet me during the afternoon. While walking back toward the Festival, I walked down Bloomfield Street and, not at all predictably even to me, I found myself fascinated by, and looking closely at, all the doors along the way, on this residential street of rowhouses. Quite an interesting variety of dull-and-0plain to ornate and old-style, usually trending toward the latter.

Re: JUB MEET NEW YORK 27-28 Sept 2013

Sorry it took me so long to post

What an awesome trip the NJ/NY meeting was. I want to thank sausy for all of the time he took away from his personal life to plan the trip and try to please everyone. Sausy, you're awesome. Palbert and frankfrank also helped in getting things moving and are wonderful, caring people as well and I greatly enjoyed their friendships. Thad1527 helped with the train routes and assisted palbert in getting back to his hotel. When we met up with chance1, he was the perfect host and the beer garden was wonderful. Criostoir had worked in the World Trade Center and planned to be late that day, because of that, he missed losing his life, but some of his co-workers lost theirs. We helped him search for their names on the memorial and when we found them it was an emotional moment for all of us. We didn't get to spend a lot of time with TheSpectatingLoner and FPNY but enjoyed what time we did spend with them.

The Frank Gehry building was novel and the male eye candy all over New York was a good diversion. We spent a lot of time walking
and on the trains and couldn't do all that we wanted to do, but we spent a lot of time together and everyone got along well together and the camaraderie was good. The time we spent in the hotel lounge talking was enjoyable. Everyone was so thoughtful and caring. I enjoyed meeting everyone even more than the sightseeing we did. The views from my hotel, the Westin, were fabulous as were all of the views of Manhattan from Jersey City. The food at the Cuban restaurant and the City Diner were very enjoyable and, although I didn't enjoy the Brazilian restaurant as much as the others, it made me happy to see everyone else enjoy themselves. It even happened that I found a Cleveland beer, Great Lakes Octoberfest, to try in New Jersey. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but it pleased me to find a bit of home there.

I'm so glad that I went.

    Rick

Well, my Merry Group, we may get T-shirts after all.

    Had any of us read:

STICKY Free T-Shirts for JUB Meets -- READ ME

we would have known what to do.

I have PM'd Bryce to try to get the ball rolling.

Glad you all had fun. Wish I had enough funds to have gone. Maybe the next one.

Definitely, you fiad... even if we don't have another in New York soon other possibilities can emerge. I may not be able to attend because of work but Cleveland may be closer for you and they are hosting the Gay Games next year in August as palbert has discussed in a thread in the meets section.

Great to hear palbert's perspectives, I may talk a lot but when he talks...you listen with rapt attention! Frank always has unique and fun insights and I thoroughly enjoyed his perspective on his Sunday exploits in Hoboken... really wish we all could have had that last brunch in the morning but just so glad we really did it and revived the JUB meets. Thanks too to all those posting their well wishes and thoughts here... would love to read from Rickrock his thoughts on the weekend, plus Thad's, Criostoir's, The Lone Spectator.. and don't worry FPNY, the Brazil Grill guys and other delights will be talked about... good things cum to those who wait! Now if I can just get someone who can take this technical dummy through a flash course on posting pics from the meet, because we certainly did take a good number of them!

I wore mine and everyone liked it and wanted one. They're attractive and I think the navy blue is slimming.

I was sooooo glad to be part of the Saturday activities! I had met Sausy and frankfrank before but hadn't seen them in quite a while...and I was happy to meet rickrock and palbert at breakfast, chance1 at the beer garden, and FPNY and bf in the evening.

My trip home was uneventful, and the next morning I was counting greeting cards and pharmaceuticals at Landis Market. Talk about going back to reality in a hurry!

But we packed a lot of fun into just one day!

Thanks, guys, for summarizing the fun so well. I'd do it again with you, anytime, anywhere.

Sausy should have thumbnails or pics up fairly soon.

(He may be photoshopping my weight off.)

One more for now, taken in Lower Manhattan as we got lunch in at George's Diner, near the World Trade Center and quite good. It was taken by Criostoir, who requested his pic not be shown on the actual boards. He is real, folks...we assure you!

The Spectating Loner could only meet with us before his shift started at his job but we thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and enjoying a great lunch together. Just sorry rapidly changing plans kept us from meeting again with him for awhile on Saturday at the Brooklyn Arts Festival.
