Special Prosecutor to Investigate TX Gov Perry for Coercion and Corruption

Oh, I hope, I pray, I hope, I pray. Is this real? Someone is actually performing justice for Texas. This Judge is taking a risk for his future. I understand Dallas is a GOOP stronghold, yes that is a typo but I'm gonna leave it. This is the first I've heard of this. This town is bad about bring forward news that is important to some citizens. Of course they report Cinco de Mayo and Diez y seis on time.

    From The Dallas Morning News:

A San Antonio senior state district judge confirmed Thursday that he will name a special prosecutor to investigate possible charges of coercion and abuse of official capacity against Gov. Rick Perry.

Judge Robert “Bert” Richardson said he expected to name someone early next week, at which time “an order will be prepared and filed with the court.”

The investigation stems from the governor’s veto of $3.7 million annual funding of Travis County’s Public Integrity Unit.

Perry acknowledged that he let it be known that if Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, a Democrat, did not resign her office following a DWI conviction, that he would cut off funding for the integrity unit.

Unfortunately, it's a bit late -- he's not running again anyway, right?

Jail? Someone good at delving into Texas law will have to tell us if he can be slapped with jail time for those. But yes, it is a nice thought.

OTOH, he'll probably just run up big legal bills which will be paid for by leftover campaign funds.

Right, but it could wake up some of these assholes that vote GOP! It'd be good to see him squirm anyway.

Did anyone read the article? The lady who's department he refused to fund was convicted of an DUI and refused to resign. Perry thought by her actions she was incapable of fulfilling her responsibilities.

Democrats are funny ... you can add her name to the current list of flakes who don't resign or refuse to stop running for public office. Oops! Did I breach a topic that can't be discussed on CEP.

Appears anything goes for dem's .. no responsibility.

I'm surprised Perry insisted Rosemary Lehmberg resign for a DUI considering Bush was arrested for one DWI and Dick Cheney was arrested for two DWIs. Alcohol problems are common with Republicans. And Perry held hostage the funding until a Democrat resigned. Who did he have in mind to replace her? No doubt one of his cronies.

It's just more republican corruption. Perry has abused his position.

Here's a comment from the article:

I wonder if Perry called for the resignation of former-Kaufman County DA (and Republican) Rick Harrison after his DWI arrest in June of 2009 while in office. I'm guessing probably not since he finished out his term and lost the 2010 election (which was probably a blessing in disguise given the events of 2013).
