Maybe he can move to Russia too where free speech reigns supreme, as long as he's not gay or speaks ill of the government. Or says anything they don't approve of.

Thanks Telstra for posting the video -- I had read about the interview a couple of days ago...

This quote (found just after the 2min mark) is a POWERFUL statement...

"I think if the American public knew what our government was doing, it wouldn't be allowed to do it anymore"
"Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it..." Goethe

This is a rather interesting case. This guy is willing to shutdown the enterprise he invested the last ten years of his life into, his money maker, giving up 50 to 100 k a year in profit because the US government is twisting his arm. This made me think.

To be fair, it was 50-100k in revenue. It made me think as well - that this guy is searching for his 15 minutes to be an "American hero" as well. Sealed court orders for surveillance and search-and-seizure have been common since before the invention of wiretaps. You don't announce to a party being investigated for criminal charges that you're investigating them. Snowden is the subject of a criminal investigation, he used this e-mail service, so I'd bet dollars to donuts that they issued a sealed court order demanding the e-mails Snowden passed over the service. Since anything these days with Snowden's name attached to it is instant news, this guy saw his chance and took it. Of course, we won't know the truth until the Appeals Court rules, but I'm betting it's not as sinister as it's being made out to be.

Unlike you I will not prejudge the outcome of the appeal process.

Seems Snowden's impact is being felt like a brick on a house of cards.

This is what happens when a strong arm Executive Branch overpowers weak or non-existent Congressional oversight. As the current Executive branch continues to write new laws and rewrite current laws without the approval of Congress, things will only get worse.

You have no fucking clue what you are talking about Jack. If this is anything it is an apparatus set up by Bush and continued by Obama that acts outside of executive review. No one seeks or discusses their next move with Obama, in fact the biggest supporters are typically congress critters of both ilk.

This does demonstrate how you thoroughly misinterpret every issue that comes before you. Not that I was not aware, but now anyone new to your spewed drivel will be able to clearly see it as well.

To the adults on the board, Yes it is 50 to 100k in revenue not necessarily profit. However, when the entire goal of you company is to provide encrypted and safe email then the demand by a country to take that information should be publicly fought. It is not a trivial matter to simply shut the doors on your company of ten years when there is not business problem but a government problem.

Not prejudging. I'm forming an opinion and waiting for more details to confirm or deny that opinion. And don't give me that BS. You prejudge constantly. Just like your assumption of guilt in the NSA threads that the NSA is spying on Americans.

He has every right to fight it. I just think that the way in which it is being presented is a bit over-dramatic. Sealed court orders have been commonplace for a very long time and is not anything new.

I don't just argue with you to argue, everything you post that attempts to address the topic is ignorantly biased and lacking any basis in reality.

Obama has nothing to do with how the FISA courts are set up except to have reviewed it and decided they were okay constitutionally. The concepts were estabished by a republican you supported but your eyes are covered with wool.

There's something more going on with this guy that he's not sharing. I don't think anyone would give up everything like this.

I don't think the Executive Branch writes any laws and certainly has no power to pass laws. Otherwise why have a Legislative Branch? But not being a US person, I may be mistaken on this. Obama (as head of the Executive Branch) I think is responsible for implementing and enforcing laws written by Congress.....

Cowboy Bob has a strong opinion about you but not sure I share it.

Obamacare has been partially rewritten by the Administration is one example.
