Why teach kids not to rape when you could teach them not to get caught?

Yeah, this makes sense! Don't let your Football stars get caught raping a young woman.Teach them to not get caught. Don't photograph the rape, don't make a video of it. Steubenville taught them a real lesson.

Steubenville-Inspired Program Teaches Teen Jocks Not to Instagram Rape by Katie J.M.Baker

A U.S. Attorney is starting a program in West Virginia that will teach high school athletes to use social media "responsibly" so as to prevent Steubenville 2.0. Why teach kids not to rape when you could teach them not to get caught?

Trent Mays, one of the two ex-high school football players convicted of raping an underage West Virginia girl last summer, was also convicted of using his phone to photograph the girl naked. Repeat after me, kids: if he hadn't documented the deed, he might've gotten off easier!

Oh, goodie -- how about next we teach them to wear masks and use false names?

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

We had it so easy when we were growing up, before smartphones, before social media, before the internet, we never had to worry about self incrimination. And before you jump all over me, that was sarcasm damn it.

That's common sense. I never take pictures of my rapes and I always dump the bodies in Lake Michigan right after ^_^

Ah, the Wall St. motto: "it's only illegal if you get caught".

I don't know the content of the proposed program, and the articles cited do not say what it is. However, this does not seem to me to be a bad program. The authors write that the program is intended to teach jocks how not to get caught, but nothing I read in the article indicates to me that that is an accurate characterization. Since it is being taught by a U.S. attorney, the idea that the purpose is to teach criminals how not to get caught is probably a false one.

There have been instances where a girl commits suicide after pictures of the assault gets widely circulated. Obviously, in those circumstances, many of the people passing on the pictures are not the rapists. However, if the girl who is raped is under the age of 18, anyone passing the text on is guilty of distributing child pornography. Thus, kids who learn not to text such pictures around do not become criminals, and perhaps girls who get raped won't end up committing suicide, or living their lives in shame, if the pictures of their assault don't get distributed.

A class like this, if taught right, might also teach kids if they receive a text like this to report it to their parents, teachers or the police instead of forwarding the text to other kids. It, therefore, has the possibility of causing crimes that might go unreported to be reported.

It might even prevent assaults from happening in the first place. Many sexual assaults in these cases happen in parties, with a bunch of drunken guys and a passed out girl. The guys egg each other on, and engage in criminal conduct that they wouldn't engage in on their own. Don't underestimate the power of peer pressure and stupid, group pressure with stupid, young men. If guys learn that their crime could be recorded without their knowledge, they might think twice about participating in a sexual assault when they are drunk and at a party with passed out people.

I'm of the view that knowledge is a good thing. My first thought is that the cited article mischaracterized the intent of the program. I'd rather see a more balanced article before reaching any firm conclusions.

the problem with these types of programmes is that assume all men would rape were it not for the programme, does anyone really think that a rapist would stop raping because some told him not to ?

The programmes are sexist as it assumes all men are rapists and women are always the victims and not ever preparators. There is not a programme telling women not to make false allegations about rape

They can prevent these type of rape very simply. Put the football team in a room, and bring in Bubba, All 650 lbs of him and have him naked. And just tell them boys, that if they rape a girl, Bubba is going to do the same to them. Problem solved.
