Texas Concealed Gun Laws Loosen. Have a gun? Feel free to travel.

While reading about Zimmy stopped for speeding in Texas I remembered a law about traveling from county to county. You had to have your gun hidden in a trunk, altho I do not remember about trucks so I thought I'd google it. And no this is not about Zimmy. It seems a new law was passed. It looks to me like you no longer have to have a permit to carry concealed. All you have to do is tell the cop you are returning from traveling or going to travel. That way you can carry concealed on the street. The Wild West Texas returns.
Well, that's the way I'm reading it.

An amendment to Texas' so-called "traveling rule" regarding concealed handguns went into effect September 1 with hardly anyone noticing, though it comes close to gutting the law requiring Texans to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

House Bill 1815, championed by both the National Rifle Association and the American Civil Liberties Union, clarified the 2005 statute allowing residents to carry a concealed weapon for protection while "traveling" in a private vehicle without a concealed weapon permit.

My biggest concern is that the sloppy will leave firearms in their cars unattended, which will mean more weapons stolen. The Texas law really should have included a charge of negligence if a "traveler" does not keep the weapon in his/her possession.

We really need a new militia act -- so many gun owners want the liberty, but not the responsibility.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

the law before, that I remember, was if you are staying in your county it's all ok to carry. I believe this was before the license to carry. then if you are going out of your county, remember there are 435 counties, then you must put the gun in the trunk. In trucks they had gun racks in the back window I don't know where you would put it. But it was out of sight.
And you're right it's getting more dangerous. However they say the NRA and ACLU agreed on this law.

I've traveled to most of the 50 states and never once carried a gun along. Why do people feel the need to have one?

If you're that frightened about other people then maybe you should stay home.

You can never be too sure about such things.

    BTW~
The state of Texas is divided into 254 counties, more than any other U.S. state. [Wiki]

It's not the first time, but this isn't the sort of thing I would expect them to stand together on. The only point I can see the ACLU going with is that the law was effectively different in each of the multitude of counties.

Not really, having a weapon really isn't going to help with a flat tire.

I could see them being standing behind the same bill It is about individual liberties. So, for that, I could see the ACLU being supportive of the bill.

Not the tire itself, but I was glad to have one when I stopped to help a guy with a flat on a freeway in a bad part of L.A.

Except that the ACLU has historically only supported positions that hold that the Second Amendment means only the government can have firearms.

We just had a full grown black bear come waltzing into a bar up here in Colorado this week. You could have seen it if you staying in the hotel next door.

What were you drinking to see a waltzing black bear? Were the pink elephants far behind?

Pardon me, but people seeing waltzing black bears in bars definitely shouldn't be carrying guns.

Maybe you had the television on and it was Yogi and Boo boo.....?

    One more....

    Finish this joke:

"A waltzing black bear comes into a bar and the bartender says...Hey, we don't get very many dancing bears in here"...... and the bear says "_________________!"

    Okay..... last one:

Or was this the black bear you saw dancing in the bar?

I wouldn't mind seeing that at all! I'd have him dancing towards my hotel room, I would.

He danced right in the back door, lucky for all involved, the back room was empty. The bar owner says it is not the first time, same thing happened about 4 years ago.

    Holy smokes!

A place with a back room where the bears like to dance into the back door?

I want the name of that club! I'll make a detour next time I'm Castle rock.

You have a tent that lasted five years. I much prefer to watch stars in the skies than on cable in a motel room. You and I have a different opinion on what it means to relax. I prefer to be in the mountains, sitting by a campfire that I built, cuddling and enjoying my partner undisturbed by the noise of traffic and cell phones. There is absolutely nothing wrong with either one, it is just a matter of preference. This is also why my daily driver is a 4X4 Blazer. There are lots of things this wolf can do with his cubs in the woods.

The whole point of (vacation) traveling is to get away. To go from motel room to motel room isn't getting away, it's just exchanging copies of the same continuous "here".

Yikes! I understand now why you want to carry a firearm. The lizard interrupted you and your "business associate" on your tropical vacation.

Not all bears, wolves, or cougars walk on four legs.

Only the ones you want to get down on all fours. Especially in back rooms of clubs.

Speaking of Back Rooms and Motels, I have seen some where the cockroaches were definitely a threat. And with the bed bugs in some motels, I'll take my chances with the bears, wolves, otters, and cougars before I will check into a motel.

I am going to make this disclaimer right here and now, My keyboard is original to my computer. Both are out of date. Any missing letters from words should be attributed to a faulty keyboard and not my ability to spell or my mental state.

I can actually believe some Texas county would put that on the state line.

Yeah, the border counties would be proud to show this.
I think I need to research this. I found it on facebook in one of those "funny as shit" sites. I need to look it up and see if it is real.

Especially in West Texas and the panhandle, I suspect.

Well, that pretty covers most of the border. I am not sure those disclaimers would apply for residents of Oklahoma or Louisiana. And the rest is the gulf, and Does anything come into Texas through the Gulf besides Hurricanes?

If you're that frightened about other people then maybe you should stay home.
In the 1970s and 1980s, I used to make days, sometimes a week or more, business trips with a guy from Memphis. We would hunt and probe around for old, rare, forgotten collectibles [records] - until our final (and longest) trip in 1988, when the "results" finally diminished too much to justify such trips anymore. We often had to ship from somewhere in Texas, our most common destination, because there was too much to fit in a full-size car.

We were always in his car, and he always traveled with a loaded handgun under the front seat! (I figured I should underline the part to explain why this is loosely on topic, haha.)

Interesting that we got along well (nothing "gay" going on), though he was a complete Republican. But, then, Republican a generation ago meant that he was probably about where the Democratic Party is now...

No, just cockroaches, bedbugs...and, maybe in hotter climates, scorpions. (Of the three, I've only ever seen cockroaches in my travels.) Of course you don't use guns to kill any of those.

The tent that I bought more than 22 years ago is still unopened on the porch. Hmmm, I originally thought I was even gonna set it up in my own yard, and camp out sometimes when I'm at home as well as on the road.

I would be open to doing that...IF I knew anybody who liked that kind of travel, and of course if I knew them. I don't know anybody who "roughs it" WHO I CAN ALSO travel with.
