Commentary: Progressives Question Obama's positions hes taken lately

President Obama has been going around giving us false choices about liberty vs security in the wake of the NSA scandal, been supporting the national sales tax to help wal-mart and amazon out, supporting immigration to give big business the ability to import cheap labor.

When is the president going to start fighting for average Americans?

Why would Obama say he would sign a national sales tax plan that would disproportionally affect low income people?

Obama reenters immigration-reform arena as Senate begins debate on bipartisan bill

Washington Post ‎- by David Nakamura ‎- 5 hours ago
The president's East Room speech was designed to bolster support as bipartisan legislation moved forward.
Why would Obama say we have to decide between liberty and security? Is liberty the enemy of security? Obama seems to think so..

“You can’t have 100 percent security and then also have 100 percent privacy and zero inconvenience,” Mr. Obama said, repeatedly stressing that the lawmakers from both parties and federal judges were aware of the efforts. “You know, we’re going to have to make some choices as a society.”
Lets not make excuses for turning your back on the American people and the right to liberty. When will Obama stop selling Americans short?

It seems clear that Obama's urging of more immigration, is motivated by the fact that immigrants overwhelmingly vote Democrat. He is indifferent to the effect upon America and its workers. He is not motivated to help business, big or otherwise, as his agenda is anti-business, not pro.

Correct. When Pres. Obama is not being anti-family, anti-Christian or anti-freeze, he is anti-business. That's why the Dow has more than doubled since he took office.

But wait, there's more! Pres. Obama picks his nose. When he's not eating his boogers, he sticks them under his chair in the Oval Office.

On the issue of liberty and security, in fairness, I would say that hatchet fell when Bush signed the Patriot Act, which summarily dissolved dozens of Constitutional rights under the veil of security. How secure are you if you have no freedom? Still, I blame Obama for not forging ahead to repeal the Patriot Act. It is a horrible law and we are now seeing the consequences of it.

^That is the progressive's trap. Yes, Bush signed the Patriot Act into law but look at those that voted for it. Many so called "progressives" voted for it too. It is easier to blame a President as an individual but the Legislative Branch, particularly Congress, should get the bulk of the blame.

Ignoring all other opinion in your post, why do you feel this is a false choice? In today's society, what security do you think can be provided that will make everyone happy when it concerns "liberty." And, since I quoted it, I would like to hear your definition of liberty as well.

Those who would sacrifice libe...no, wait, I don't need to finish the quote. We pretty much all know it, and it's the absolute truth.
"All legal U. S. residents who are 18 years or older, shall have an unconditional right to vote." - We need a 28th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution which resembles this...NOW!

VOTING: Just remember: "Be careful of what you DON'T wish for. You might just get it." GET OUT AND VOTE for what you DO wish for.

I'm glad you can regurgitate what someone else briefly summarized in a quote made hundreds of years ago. I would say it's not very applicable today and I believe Mr. Franklin would agree were he to be given a chance to comment on it in today's world. I personally am not willing to sacrifice myself or my fellow Americans so that some people can be satisfied there isn't a database somewhere out there with information on what phone number their phone number called.

Unless the provisions have changed, that part would actually generate jobs for Americans: many foreigners on student visas gain skills and want to start businesses here, but instead they're forced to go back home and start their businesses -- if they can. So the present system provides other countries with the chance to create jobs Americans could have had, while the change would mean that those students would stay here and become Americans while providing other Americans with many jobs (I saw an estimate that had this been in effect the last decade, there would be several million more American jobs right now, due to a few tens of thousands of new Americans).

In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

I don't think there's any doubt in my mind that Obama is the most conservative and Bush-like man the Democrats could've possibly run.

I predicted after Obama's 2012 win that the Republicans would suffer the next few election cycles, but it suddenly looks as if they suddenly have a fighting chance in 2014 and 2016. Of course, 2016 entirely depends on how poorly 2014 will go. Who knows, maybe Obama has guaranteed a Democratic loss in 2016.

However...Americans do have a famously short political memory...so there's hope yet. Too early to tell.

These folks on here excoriated me for voting for Obama but, he is the best conservative offering out there.
