It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Two new reality shows air tonight on National Geographic channel at 9pm Eastern and 10pm Eastern.
Called Battleground Afghanistan and Eyewitness War.
Battleground Afghanistan looks inside the latest chapter of the Afghan conflict as seen by American Marines on the front-lines of the war. As tens of thousands of troops withdraw from Afghanistan, Capt. Ben Middendorf and his men of Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines — based at Camp Pendleton in San Diego — are staying behind to continue the fight. These Marines are taking the fight directly to the Taliban with a mission to locate, disrupt and destroy the enemy.
Eyewitness War follows the men and women of the armed forces through the chaos of battle with real-life, first-person footage. We’ll see them ready to face whatever hell awaits around every corner — from screeching bullets to IEDs to rockets. See the dangerous missions and perils of war through the eyes of our brave American service members — as the fighting is happening. Unfiltered, raw and intense, you’ll hear their shouts and see their comrades’ every move, in first person.

President Obama on Monday awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration, to Army Staff Sergeant Ty M. Carter for the heroism he displayed during one of the most intense battles of the Afghanistan war.
Mr. Obama called Carter a "true American hero.".....
......Carter already has several military decorations, including the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
Earlier this year, President Obama awarded Clinton Romesha, a former active duty Army staff sergeant, a Medal of Honor for his bravery in the same battle
Damn, that's purty model quality Marine. The few I know are bunch of loud meat heads who think a face wash is too "gay."
Someone I knew when I was in the service recently looked me up and sent me our Boot Camp yearbook...I was shocked at how young I looked. I rarely take any pictures for any reason so it was really weird seeing it.
Take 2 minutes this year.
