You think TV viewers are ready for a Comedy/Drama about a Gay Interracial Couple living in NYC?

Good writers, Fuckable unknown Actors & Maybe a Dramedy-Plot would equal a hit on CABLE/Satelite...I don't know if NBC, ABC, CBS & FOX would touch it....What do you Guys think?

I wouldn't care to see it..

How about a sitcom that portrays two Masculine Black Men in a loving relationship? Instead, we have to settle for the typical stereotypes forced upon us by the Fem leaders of the Gay Mafia.

Works for me. And I was going to comment on the Six Feet Under story line but Carlo beat me to it.

Not so fast. Do not confuse Fox news with all of the fox entertainment (movies you know 20th Century Fox). Family Guy is on Fox, and the FX channel puts on some pretty cutting edge shows (i.e American Horror Story).

The real motto with the creep who owns Fox is anything for a buck.

I bet it would work in Canada or the UK doubt it work in the USA. I don't even think the interracial aspect is the most controversial part I think the fact the couple are homosexual is the incendiary part. Also, why can't TV programming for gay characters go beyond the stupid comedy format? New Normal sucks. We need more shows like the Following which had a twist and sadistic gay couple who were serial killers. There needs to be more gay couples who go against type, why can't there be a TV show with a gay man in the lead and he's a cop or a private detective or something?

The owner of Fox is doing everything by the book of Capitalism. We just hear about Rupert more than the unknown heroes of international Capitalism.

I bet every JUBber would do exactly these same thing if we were in his position. Convince me otherwise!

I think a lot of TV viewers are ready for it... it's the few that kick up a shitstorm that will get all the publicity though. That's how it works in a lot of situations.

Actually, I kind of agree with you. Why does it have to be interracial? Just to "shock" and "wow" and make a point?

That's almost equally offensive as refusing to air something like that.

It must be to bring in the maximum audience, just like US movies must have racial equity when they cast the roles for the movie.

Re: You think TV viewers are ready for a Comedy/Drama about a Gay Interracial Couple living in NYC?

Well hopefully Ryan Murphy doesn't get his hands on it..........or it will turn into the freakshow that is Glee and The New Normal.

Shows like Glee and The New Normal reinforce every single stereotype about gay men that straight people have of us.

Don't you know? If you're a gay man, that means you're feminine, you sing Broadway showtunes, you can tell the difference between this years' and last years' designer fashions, you're so lean you're almost anorexic, you get your hair done at an expensive salon, and you would rather get a manicure than ever play or watch sports.

Straight people love effeminate gay men because it doesn't challenge their assumptions of what being a gay man is. Straight guys can still feel like they're more "manly" than us gays, and straight women love to have a gossip & shopping BFF who won't steal their man.
I used to be like that, but not anymore. At least not on the first date. Third date, whole other story..."

Much as I usually disagree with Kane's rather outrageous opinions, he may have a point on this occasion. It's often a white guy with another guy of a different race in these kind of shows as a way to grab attention and titilate and be 'shocking' and 'controversial' etc. etc.

Not that it isn't of course welcomed that gay relationships are portrayed on screen and that it's ever more mainstream, but where is the realism? Have there EVER been two gay black men kissing on U.S. TV? (or two Hispanic/Latino men for that matter?)

There was a television show broadcast on Canadian and American television last summer called the LA Complex of a masculine gay black couple Tariq and Kal. Even though the LA Complex was an ensemble type of show the black gay couple Tariq and Kal were the stars of the ******

I also want to point out the LA Complex was a CANADIAN show! I think if any country is going to a show with two black gay men in a relationship it is going to be a Canadians doing it.

I would LOVE to see a dramatic show about a black gay couple setting in Toronto or Montreal on the CBC that would be awesome!

It was nice to finally see two black gay men loving each other and shining a into the struggles gay black men go through.

On You tube there are numerous videos about the Tariq and Kal relationship. I loved Tariq and Kal because it was the first time I had ever seen a masculine gay black male couple I can relate to. Both guys had their issues but they really did love each other. Sadly, LA Complex got cancelled after the first season but I am going to purchase the DVDs to the series because of Tariq and Kal I love them

I see plenty of couples in NYC that fit this description---today in WHole Foods there was a happy couple (they were so corny happy)-- a white guy and an Indian guy who were buying Thai food But Kane is right about the Gay Mafia in Hollywood.

The times, they are a-changin' in America!
One fifth of the 50 states now allow gay marriage.
We have already had successful gay-themed characters in mainstream shows.
In spite of closed minded detractors, I believe that we are ready for it.

My favorite gay characters ever on TV are an interracial couple...Keith and David on Six Feet Under...and viewers embraced them so the public has been there already.

They were successful because the writers were excellent developing their characters and story lines....they were wonderful complex characters as were all the rest of the cast.

I think straight people like effiminate gay men because it makes us more visible to them. That way they can easily decide if they want to know us.

I knew most of you would mention David & Keith from 6ft under. I was surprised the Casting Director would go there when he/she could have played it safe by giving David a White boyfriend. They were the Glue to the Show but I'm talking about a Show centered around an Interracial couple like them. Yes they'd have Gay friends possibly in interracial relationships but the Story would be theirs to tell.

For now we don't need to see 2 White Women or 2 Black Guys. We're living in a Country that is becoming a melting pot for Interracial relationships. Some might say it's not REALITY having a White & Black Guy as Lovers. Well where I live it's becoming RARE that a Black guy doesn't have a White Lover. A Producer has to attract Cultures with history. I watched maybe 2 episodes of "Friends" and it didn't draw me in but maybe if they had a Black Couple I would've given it a 3rd shot. "Cheers" didn't have ANY Minorities during the run of its show but we watched in my Family home like we went to Church. Why? because the show had GREAT writers & Actors. Did I want to see Black people on that show? Of course, we go to bars...Did the Cosby show have a diverse group of players? Yes and it worked..

Keith & David were so Good you stopped Looking at their Skin Color. You either wanted them to make it or not...

The movie Norman... Is That You covered this phenomenon... in 1976.

I get annoyed when television claims to be 'groundbreaking' when it's basically doing something that movies and the stage did almost half a century ago and better.

If all these companies are trying to do is dressing up their formulaic worn out sitcoms and dramas with 'exotic' characters then I don't need to see their products.

I disagree, the interracial gay couple angle is tired and boring it has been done already a lot. A gay interracial couple doesn't challenge the status quo it simply reinforces it. Why does a gay black man have to be with a white guy? If you want to go interracial I wouldn't mind seeing a television show about a Latino and black man or a black or Asian man? Now that would totally jolt America and wake people up about gay people of colour.

I think in order for television to break new ground there really needs to be more emphasis on gay people of colour in relationships WITH EACH OTHER. For far too long television when it focuses on gay people is always about the white gay image which is myopic.

I think something is happening now that more gay black men are coming out such as Jason Collins, Frank Ocean ect. are challenging people's assumptions about gay men of colour. I think white and black people were shocked about Jason Collins coming out.

I think a black gay couple would be more powerful because it would really force people to see that not all gay people are white. People are over gay interracial couples because they don't really challenge the status quo of being gay.

Of course, we on this board know gay black men and gay men of colour exist but not a lot of people don't in the straight world. That's why the Jason Collins story was so huge, it really shocked a lot of people to learn a masculine NBA basketball player who is a black man is actually gay.
There needs to be more television and films specifically about the black gay experience made because it can do a lot of good educating people and showing the racial diversity of the LGBT community.

I also won't mind seeing a Latino gay couple or an Asian American or Native American gay couple on television.

If anything, I'll be more annoyed with the stereotypes that gay men will pick up on "the gay NYC lifestyle."

I've been annoyed with people's perceptions of gay NYC since nycdowntownguy's username was accused of being a gay cliche.

Mainstream sucks. A show like this will only survive by being marketed to straight, white folks. Hence, it's useless and powerless to convey the real plights of both being gay and dating inter racially.

It's 2013. Are we still looking to sitcoms to be some sort of educator to the American populace? The only reason any character would be gay, non-white, masculine-acting, or anything else is if they could get 500 jokes out of it.

Re: You think TV viewers are ready for a Comedy/Drama about a Gay Interracial Couple living in NYC?

When I was dating my ex, a black guy, and me being east Asian, people always looked at us funny. Let's admit it, you don't see too many east Asian + black combination among the gay couples. The guy I dated before that was latino. Again, we turned some heads wherever we went. The guy before that was white, and we hardly ever got any look.

I currently date a white guy. We turn some heads, because people aren't used to seeing a gay couple with the white guy being the twink. It's always the Asian guy that is the twink.

Anyway, I'm not really impressed with this show and I absolutely don't see it as ground breaking. If they want to make it ground breaking, put an Asian dude or latino in there. Or better yet, put 2 Asian guys or 2 latino guys in there.

Here's a new idea: a show about a gay midget couple. We can make them interracial to ease people into it. It would totally be badass.

Instead of a gay sitcom I want to see a gay male couple regardless of their race be crime fighters or police officers. Why can't a gay male couple be macho and tough? I would love to see like a Person of Interest type of show but with gay characters in the lead.

Why not? Television shows need to change things up make things more interesting. Queer as Folk is very popular with heterosexual women. Daytime television has gay male couples who are popular with straight women. Don't underestimate the straight female audience who are very interested in gay male couples.

You do realize straight daytime TV watching women aren't going to be interested in your remake of The Shield just because it has a gay couple in the lead right?

That would only be believable if one was either a Hindu, or a Satanist*.

You know, one of those weirdo foreign religions.

Enough with the drawn out Gay Househusbands on LOGO..Every Season they had the 1 token Black Guy...Does that series still air?..The Cute Couple below would LOVE their own Reality ******.They may not have Movie Star looks but they'd attract viewers.....

I think these 2 Fuckers are PornStars or models...If I was a Producer I'd create a relaity show around these Hotties even if they're just Fuck-buddies or have an open-relationship...
