After the HUGE and public praise King Jason Collins is receiving today and it hasn't even been 24 hours since his announcement I'm guessing nearly all of the closeted athletes are starting to feel like they can do this.


Sure, the majority of them are going to be interested in seeing him actually show up to games and how that goes in the arena but surely players must be feeling the push to come out.

I don't really have a reason, I just want one from the NFL to do so since Football is so big. Preferably someone who plays a physical position.

I think basketball will have another before any others. There's alot of talk that the league itself is more accepting (from the players to the commissioner) than other leagues. So, yeah. NBA again.

In the US? There is a lot of pressure on gays in the NFL to come out. But I voted soccer seeing as coming out is a worldwide phenomenon.

I voted Tennis, cause it is the gayest sport ever, I am amazed no gay came out yet (only lesbians).
I don't think Soccer, the supporters are extremely homophobic (at least in Europe).

Sucks. Tennis is actually the most active sport of the sports listed. And the one I enjoy playing the most. But then again, I'm gay, so I'm not really helping it in proving it isn't as "gay" as it's perceived.

lol I was first to vote for hockey. First, being Canadian, it's what I watch lol. But that aside, the locker-room camaraderie is the stuff of legend, and from what I've heard is much stronger than other sports. They become closer than family. So I think that factor would make it easier for someone to come out as they would (or SHOULD) have a good support system.

I agree, while in Europe it would be impossible for a player to come out, I can see it happening in US.
In fact it happened already, although few people noticed it.
Robbie Rogers played for the US national team and was playing for Leeds in the English League One, he retired at 25 just after announcing he was gay.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened, except for most NHL players, they know that their marketability and the money is in the US and not here.

When they did a survey on players on whether they supported gay marriage (last year, maybe?), the NHL was WAY ahead of all the other leagues at about 94%. Considering the league skews heavily Canadian, that's no real surprise. I was surprised that an NBA player came out before an NHL player, to be honest.
