I am shocked that there are still communities in the South that practice "unofficial" segregated proms that alienate students from each other on the basis of skin color in their schools. After 40 years in the making, members of the community finally stepped up for an integrated prom.
This is why we still have a long way to go in this country. We are not all equal already. We have to continue to push for policies that promote diversity and affirm equal representation in all aspects of our society.
