Straight allies Brrendon Ayanbadejo and Chris Kluwe both fired for gay rights activism

Chris Kluwe just told NBC Sports he thinks he's going to be fired from the Minnesota Vikings for his gay rights activism. Brendon Ayanbadejo got released from the Baltimore Ravens although he downplayed whether his gay rights activism is the reason he got cut. Kluwe isn't holding back he believes he will be cut from his team for his political beliefs.

If this is true, its unacceptable. I don't follow football enough to know better, but were they good players? If they were mediocre... they don't have much of a case. They could have been let go for underwhelming performances. I try not to jump the gun on stuff like this.

Re: Straight allies Brrendon Ayanbadejo and Chris Kluwe both fired for gay rights activism

    Morrissey, that's not true.

Chris Kluwe told people that he hopes he doesn't lose his job because of his activism. The Minnesota Vikings drafted a punter in the 5th round, and ACCORDING TO THIS SOURCE, it has noting to do with his activism. Kluwe has not been released yet, and if he does, it's because he isn't better than the kid they drafted.

"It had nothing to do with Chris Kluwe's off field concerns. I have no issues with if Chris Kluwe wants to express his opinions. That's his right, that's his freedom of speech. This is just a football decision to bring in a guy to come in and compete."
    - Rick Spielman, Vikings GM.

In fact, I'm a Vikings fan and I have yet to see anything that Kluwe has said that he even believes he's going to be cut because of it. Here's what I've got on Kluwe:
"Again, I'm not a front-office person, so I don't know if that played into it or not. It's one of those things where you hope it wouldn't be a factor, because the NFL is supposed to be about just what you can do on the field. You've got guys in the league that have committed crimes. You've got guys that have been arrested. That hasn't seemed to slow anyone down. It'd really be a shame if me speaking out for equality was what got me cut. I think that doesn't say a lot of good things about the nature of football."
Heck, I even looked up where you might have gotten this idea. Nothing that suggests he believes he's getting fired. He only suggests that he could get cut for it.

By the way, since you're so up into how good players are, you should know by now that both Ayanbadejo and Kluwe have the risk of being cut because they're not that good. Average players at best, and even more expensive with age.
