If the gun on my night stand was real...

Unfortunately it's only a Co2 powered BB gun. Otherwise I'd check out of this miserable thing called 'life'.

    Hey.

Give it another chance. Life can improve.

    Read your PM.

    Don't do anything.

We all need help. Don't be afraid to call a suicide helpline, a friend, a family member, one of us, and get help.

The world isn't as bleak when you aren't facing it alone.

There are TWO kinds of people in the world -- the kind who believe there are two kinds of people, and the kind who don't.

    Fortunately it isn't real.

Take this opportunity to contact the Suicide Help Lines and/or a mental health crisis centre in your area. You have previously indicated that you have serious issues with alcohol addiction. In a depressive, inebriated state, this can lead to thoughts of suicide. There is nothing so bad as to warrant checking out.

We all only wish the best for you.

If only those morons in the NRA could read the OP's post they would realise what a disaster a guns free for all would be

I don't think that the gun proponents give a shit to be honest. They just look at it as free will.

A gun owner is far more likely to turn the gun on himself than on anyone else.

You had gotten clean and sober a few years back. And, if memory serves, gotten a lot happier. I'd say it's time to head that route again. Contact AA.

So, you care in the abstract about people but not the OP enough to openly address his angst? Nice job.

The thread is about the OP, not your pet political topic. Even those of us who oppose the NRA aren't going to chime in and endorse a thoughtless stand like yours here -- only ground to lose, not gain.

breh, if you want to trade places with me so you can have a reason to kill yourself, we can trade.

as far as i'm concerned, you have a whole lot to live for compared to me. when you think that your life isn't shit, there's always someone outthere that is worst off that you wouldn't want to trade places with. depression hurts and it will make you think things that you wouldn't think in a normal state but you can fight back by not doing anything crazy. if you make it out an episode where you aren't acting out on suicidal thoughts, you win. it's hard and tough. you can say that you feel like shit and feel like killing yourself BUT don't act out on it though. if you feel the urge is too much where you will do it, that's when you call 9-1-1.

In that case knives, pills and a hundred other ways to kill oneself also be prohibited.

As far as the OP goes, can you tell us what's wrong and what has got you feeling so hopeless?

Never cease to find it strange
How at midnight things seem hopeless
    But by dawn they've changed

Fortunately it wasn't real. Checking out is not the way: it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Contact people around you or a suicide hotline as you may not be able to deal with all this by yourself.

    Check your PM.

Please do not say it is a "permanent solution to a temporary problem" unless you know the person's situation. Unless you know the person's situation, should someone say "its a permanent solution to a temporary problem". Yes, its a permanent solution BUT the problem may not be temporary. What if someone is in debt for $50,000. That is not a temporary problem. It will stay with them until the debt is paid off.

I have dealt with depression since 1979 and I have a depression that has been medication resistant. 34 years later and Im still depressed. I have even had shock therapy and it is thought of as the last ditch effort to cure depression and it didnt work. (I think I didnt have enough sessions and if I could, I would do more shock therapy because all the medication does for me is stop my feelings of suicide).

I almost started a thread titled "Would you rather be dead?" because at the time I knew of three people (myself included) that wished they were dead. And if you include Daximus, that is 4 people (minimum) on here who would rather be dead. Those are good odds. Maybe there are others. If you didnt know, there is a suicide forum http://www.suicideforum.com/forum.php? where like minded people can go. They dont encourage suicide. If fact, you arent allowed to talk about any plans if you have some but it is a place where you can go and not hear things like "go talk a walk, you'll feel better"; "youre just having a bad day, tomorrow will be better", etc

I have suicide ideation (unusual preoccupation with suicide) in that I think about it all the time, but I wouldn't do anything because it would kill my mom and I couldnt do that to her.

I came up with this analogy. Lets say you are standing on top of a building and you jump off. What would be your first reaction?
    Would you think:
    1. Oh crap, what have I just done?
    2. It will all be over soon

If your answer is #1, I think you are not truly suicidal and you want to live but you want someone to acknowledge the pain you are going through. You want to live

If your answer is #2, I think you are truly suicidal and you really dont want to not live anymore.

I think America/Canada is so far behind and if I have had depression for 25+ years, I should have the right to kill myself if I want to. I could discuss it with my family and have them understand how I feel and allow me the choose to end my life if I want. Its legal in countries in Europe and so should it be here.

    Daximus,
I hope you get some help.

Re: If the gun on my night stand was real...

Thanks every one. I will be seeking help to stop drinking again. I should have never started up because the habit came back in full force. When I get extrememly intoxicated that's when the saddness and suicidal thoughts come raining in. I start feeling sorry for myself like a selfish child and act out or think about ending everything. It's a bad habit along with an addiction and it's something I will get over. I've stopped drinking before, but only with help.

So thank you for your kindness and PM's. I'll get through this.

Could a MOD go ahead and please close this thread? Thanks.
