Of course. Most plays I have seen have been musicals.

Did you like The Book of Mormon?

I thought it was interesting. I still don't know if I liked it or not.

The Tempest by Shakespeare. Local production. Very low budget but the two leads were epic!

I saw a local production of Angels in America a while back. It was really amazing and the actors were great (and hot).

Re: What was the last play that you watched?

Thursday I saw Noises Off put on by a nearby college. Friday I saw Dearly Departed put on by a local community theater. I try to go to college and community plays often because they are cheap and often good and if they aren't good, I didn't spend a lot of money. I'm thinking about seeing The Book of Mormon when it comes to town, but I can't afford to go to downtown theaters often because they cost too much. This next Saturday, I will see the modern dance group Lucky Plush. A couple of weeks ago, I saw the Norh Coast Mens Chorus performing songs from different movies.

I have season tickets to see traveling Broadway shows, but I also see a lot of independent productions. In my opinion the smaller local independent productions have been way better than the big traveling Broadway shows.

The local shows have a lot of raw talent.

I missed Rock of Ages last month because of medical reasons. Tonight however I got to see a local production or Sordid Lives. It was very funny.

Last night I saw Jim Brochu is a Character Man. It's an original musical valentine to the Great White Way. It's a one man show about some of the famous great character actors. It's coming in September to off-Broadway. It's playing for about a month here in South Florida. It was funny and entertaining. I really enjoyed it a lot.

Friday night I saw "Self Defense or Death of Some Salesmen". It is a small theater which puts on some unusual plays and I go there because I'm afraid that I am going to miss something if I don't go. It was about the uneven administration of justice between prostitues and respectable people. Sometimes I enjoy their plays and I was surprised that I enjoyed this one, but it made a good point and was well done. The theater is small and usually has chairs set up for about forty or so people. This performance had thirty-one audience members, so it wasn't sold out. It is always intersting to see how they have aranged and fit in the stage and the audience each time. The first row of seats is on the floor and sometimes you could literally reach out and touch the actors if it wasn't disrespectful to do that. The price is reasonable too.

P.S. I saw "The Book of Mormon" a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed it and thought it was good, but my ticket was $90 plus surcharges plus parking, or $115. I don't think that there is a play in the world that is worth that kind of money even though people pay that all the time in New York and London. I can't afford that more than once, or so, a year, and I like to go to plays about one or two times a month. That is why I go to local community theaters and college theaters, and often they are good and relatively cheap.

Legally Blonde. Alright, but not spectacular.

I still really want to see 'The Book of Mormon' but it doesn't look like it's coming to Australia anytime soon.

I am glad I saw The Book of Mormon. I am even more glad that it was part of my season package. I saved about 50% on the cost. I didn't like it too well.

I love small theatres just because they do more gritty works.

I just got back from a small production of The Secret Garden. It was good, but they had some tech issues. This was my second time seeing this play.

The song "Lily's Eyes" almost made me cry.

there are so many good songs... if and when I become a big time film director (yeah, right [roll eyes]) this is the first musical I'd direct for the big screen.

just got back from Opening Night of the new Idina Menzel musical If/Then - it's really good, but I think Act 1 should (and most likely will get trimmed back a little) at almost three hours with intermission, it's kind of exhausting. The final solo song from Idina near the bitter end just soared and brought a tear to my eyes.

Wow, it's great that you got to see Idina. I'm jealous!

The last play I saw was called The Power of Duff. It was very good and struck a nice balance between drama and comedy.

Thanks so much for this thread, Thynight! I love theater!

I saw American Idiot on Thursday, Nov. 14th.

I don’t really know if I liked it or not since the speakers were so loud I couldn’t really make out the words to most of the songs. Also they had bright lights pointed out at us watching the show which kept blinding us.

I saw The Cocktail Hour a few months ago and while it was funny, the subject matter was a bit mundane. I enjoyed Venus In Fur much more. I thought it was funny, but also made you think and the acting was top-notch.

Recently, I saw the musical Working and while I thought it had some great moments, I somehow found it a bit depressing. I did like how they updated it to include modern technology.

I saw all of these plays in Boston.

Last Saturday night I saw the play, "Wiesenthal." It was a one man play about Simon Wiesenthal, the Nazi hunter, played by Tom Dugan who also wrote the play. He was excellent in his portrayal of Simon Wiesenthal. Even though it is a heavy subject, there is some funny jokes in the play to break up the seriousness. After the run here in South Florida they are bringing the play to New York.

I saw the play "The Book of Mormon" a while ago. I don't remember it much but remember that it was alright, but I thought that it would have been better. I saw "Eurydice" at a local college recently and thought it was okay, but nothing special, but I like going to college plays to see the young actors and the cost isn't too high. I'm hoping to see "Guys and Dolls" at a community theater this weekend.

Book of Mormon wasn't for me. I thought it was strange.

Re: What was the last play that you watched?

As OP of this thread I have been debating if I should post about the shows I saw in Vegas. They are not really plays, but they are theatre. I decided I will.

Blue Man Group; fun as always, but we were let down because we had VIP tickets and we didn’t get much for that.

Thunder From Down Under; I didn’t think I would like the show because they are not the type of men I tend to like, but it was a really fun show. The acting sucked, but you’re not there for the acting.

Le Reve - The Dream; This was a beautiful show. I highly recommend it to anyone going to Las Vegas.

Penn & Teller; I liked the show, but there was nothing I had not seen before. There is nothing that has not been on TV. It was nice to meet them after the show though.

Frank Marino’s Divas; A very fun drag show with some very hot dancers.

Trailer Park boys episode 7 "A Shit River Runs Through It"

Dracula NBC, season finale. Excellent, excellent I bet its not going to be renewed. Steam-punk Victorian vampire with style.

Saw Sister Act tonight. It was okay and I am glad I watched it, but I won't bother to see it again.

I watched Once last night. It is now one of my favorite musicals. If you get the chance, watch it.

finally saw 'Bat Boy - The Musical' (for the first time) over at 1st Stage at Tyson's Corner, Virginia - what a fantastic production!

before that - 'Ordinary Days' at Round House Theater (Bethesda, Maryland) - that also impressed me.

Saw a small production tonight called "The Nerd". Wasn't very good.

Re: What was the last play that you watched?

Last night I saw "Butterflies are Free." I really enjoyed this play a lot. It had drama and comedy. In some scenes it was very moving and emotional. The lead actor was very cute too. LOL

The play takes place in 1969 in NYC. The lead actor portrays a blind man who is on his own for the first time. He meets his next door neighbor who is a free spirit female hippie. His overbearing mother comes for a visit and isn't happy with what she sees. She does not like his apt or the woman from next door. She is a bit of a snob. The blind man and his neighbor begin to fall in love.

This play was also a movie starring Goldie Hawn as the hippie neighbor. The movie came out in 1972.

This was one of the best plays I've seen. The comedy was funny and it was not dated.
