    The 46 year pregnancy

    Oh
    My
    God

Pretty remarkable, and quite frankly very fascinating. It is a bit graphic though so be careful if you're going to watch it.

    Blew my fucking mind.

I had no idea the human body was capable of mummifying a fetus inside them!

24:43 marks the beginning of the old woman story. Before that, it's just an ectopic pregnancy.

I don't have time to watch the whole video so I'm gonna guess this was the Algerian or Moroccan or something woman that did it before marriage and was scared what would happen so when her water broke she was going to the hospital then decided not to and just didn't. She suffered pain for a while then it just stopped hurting and her periods returned? Then after 46 years she started feeling uterine pains and went to get it checked to find a calcified lump that appeared to be her baby? In my eyes she killed the kid.. You reap what you sow, if you're gonna have unprotected sex like that and not abort it or give it up or something and just decide to ignore it ever happened, you're a fucking moron. You got pregnant, own up and deal with it. -_- blehh anyway yeah.

Did you guys see the one about the guy with a twin growing inside him? that one was amazing.. god when I'm a surgeon, I'd love to see that.

    fetus in fetu (parasitic twin)

It's almost like conjoined twins - an embryo 'envelops' another in the womb but instead of a failed pregnancy, one twin becomes a dormant mass inside the healthy other.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetus_in_fetu

I remember a Channel 4 documentary (what else? ) that showed something like this over here. It was named something like 'The Boy Who Gave Birth To His Twin' and showed pics of this constantly 'pregnant' little boy over many years.

I think there was another case where they took a thing out of someone and it was all deformed and curled up with long hair and teeth and wierd feet and hands.

Real life genetic wierdness. I'm surprised they haven't turned a variation of this into a horror movie yet.

I have no condemnation for the old woman, as I've been fortunate enough not to grow up in a society like hers. And, as a man unable to become pregnant, it is more than difficult for me to consider the feelings and issues surrounding pregnancy.

There already have been horror movies made about fetus in fetu. It will be a bit to look up which ones, but I know I've seen at least one.

OK, did a search, couldn't fine one, but I was remembering Basket Case which was similar, but not fetus in fetu.

You got all that from the OP?

When I get some time on my hands, I may actually watch that 47 minute clip. I'm a sucker for these "life, you so weird!" type videos.

    @kindabikindagay

All I have to say to you is that you're ignorant and it's ironic you should call her a fucking moron.

Take note that this pregnancy occurred in 1955. There was no way for her to find out that the baby was lodged in her Fallopian tube because Ultrasound technology wasn't introduced to the medical field till the 1960s, and wasn't commonplace till many years after that. Her baby ruptured her Fallopian tube and survived by attaching its placenta to her vital organs.

She was scared to have a C-section because she witnessed a woman dying during child birth at the hospital. But if she went for the C-section anyway, they wouldn't have found ANYTHING in her womb, because there wasn't a baby in there. And, if they tried to remove a full term fetus from her abdominal wall, it would have killed her because guess what, the placenta was attached to HER vital organs and the woman would have just bled to death.

The fact that the baby died is the only reason this woman lived. It's tissues began to die off which is why her body calcified the exterior of the baby to protect itself from harm of the dying fetus's tissues. The placenta dehydrated and let go of her vital organs, and her body mummified the baby because it could not re-absorb it, which is what happens in normal cases of ectopic pregnancies with small fetuses. But this is a full term fetus which the body turns into a stone baby.

She did not kill the child. There weren't enough advancements in medical technology at the time to save the child. Had they tried to pull it out, she would have died. Ectopic pregnancies are natural occurring. Mammals other than humans also experience them, and in the wild, the best biological course of action is for the female's body to either

    a. Absorb it
    b. Mummify it if it can't be absorbed

This gives the female another chance to conceive again.

The fact this woman unknowingly had a stone baby and is alive to tell us her experience of the whole ordeal is a great advancement to the medical field. There are so few documented cases of stone baby pregnancies, and every case is unique. What she unknowingly did was advance OUR knowledge of this phenomenon instead of just kill herself and possibly her baby in 1955 and just be another mother lost during childbirth.

Also, there is no mention in the documentary of her conceiving this child before marriage. In fact, her sister was there with her during labor, suggesting that her family was aware of her situation and supportive.

My dilemma is knowing what triggers a body to enormously swell up at a random time after a baby dies inside the abdominal cavity. It died and she was fine for 46 years, adopted and raised her own children, and the pain didn't return till she was about 74-75, well past menopause. While other women with reported stone pregnancies in the documentary got the pains much sooner and had their babies removed in just a few years.

I think you're referring to a teratoma. It's a type of tumor that can develop teeth, hair, nails, bones and VERY rarely more complex organs like eyes, limbs, etc.. It's generally localized to a specific spot and doesn't spread (meaning it's usually benign). It's really quite fascinating, I'm not sure what causes it but I urge you all to look into it if you find all this fascinating.. I know I do

(not quoting the whole thing but don't worry I read it! )

hi yeah, I didn't realize that it was an ectopic pregnancy and also I didn't watch the video I'm just going on about the article I read. It might've been a different case but that's unlikely. It might have painted her evil and for that I apologize. According to the one I read it was some woman who had a normal healthy pregnancy but was afraid of delivering it because she was unmarried and was afraid of the society's reaction and how they would shun her. Especially because she came from a region where it was extremely immoral to do so. She was too scared to deliver so decided nevermind, I won't do it. and just continued living her life and her periods came and she thought nothing of it.. The article probably fabricated some details or was probably written by someone who didn't have all the details or I may have just remembered it wrong. I do repeat that I did not watch this video and I'd like to say I'm not 'ignorant'
