electric razor or regular disposable razor?

    which do you guys use?

im not sure I understand why people use regular razors tbh.
but my electric razor broke down recently so I gave disposables a try. I have to say its a lot more time consuming. and it must be expensive buying so many disposable razors. and shaving cream and whatnot.
also I cut myself like 5 times

If I shave against the grain its painful cuz my facial hair is rather coarse and I end up cutting myself. If I shave with the grain...well it doesnt do anything?

    I have to use both.

Can't shave above the lip against the grain with a blade, but the electric is hopeless on the neck and underneath the chin.

My skin is so sensitive I can't get a decent shave unless I take a hot shower before hand, plus it grows in all directions, there's not just one against the grain direction.

I often end up using my electric razor on my head just as a daily thing. Mohawks are good looking but they need daily maintenance.

I have both an electric shaver, and disposable razors.
The electric shaver is for every day, but I use the disposable razors when I'm going out somewhere, because they provide a much closer shave.
Also, I've never used shaving cream in my life! I just use soap lol

Neither. Electric don't really cut some much as abrade, and disposables don't work as well.

    both.

electric when I just want to trim my beard/mustache; actual razorblade when I want a clean shave.

Electric razors leave my skin feeling greasy. These days I only ever wet shave with disposable razors.

I bought an electric razor before, but it was too rough for my skin. I just use disposable, in fact I need to shave right now. I hate shaving.

When I used an electric razor, it was unsatisfactory. Always felt rough. Also, it didn't do anything for my skin either.

I use a Bic Blue III. The Blue II just doesn't cut it. I use gel rather than foam.

I also have a subble trimmer, when I just don't shave for a week and a half, it gets too long for the disposable to deal with, so I will trim it down to a stubble first leave it, or then wet shave with the disposable Blue III.

Wet shaving is supposed to be good for the skin - removes the top layer of dead skin cells, so you should feel rejuvenated afterwards, or cut to shreds.

Re: electric razor or regular disposable razor?

One key thing I've learned about shaving is, you have to do it every day!!! I think it's hardest on guys who go a week or two between shaving. The other thing is, if you're using a disposable razor, rinse it out OFTEN. Otherwise you're just grinding in that hair powder into your pores and helping to clog them.

I must have super sensitive skin, as shaving creams always make me break out, which is why I started shaving in the hot shower with just water. I think it' helps to open the pores, I don't need the shaving cream, and it's easier to rinse out the razor.

I shave my head though... which makes for LONG showers.

It takes some practice and eventually you develop your own technique...that website has lots of interesting tips. Once you get used to shaving with a straight razor it is hard to shave with anything else.

Fusion proglide with the five blades... ridiculously expensive but I must shave everyday and other razors do a shit job and hurt...

same same for electric... although i do have a electric body shaver for keeping things trimmed...

for shave cream i buy the Noxzema foam... it is cheaper and does a better job....

also only shave in the shower.

My grandfather gave me an electric razor way back when...you had to plug them in to use them. I have, for the most part, only ever used electric. Much more convenient for me at least. Never really wanted to bother with the shaving crème and razor blades.

Re: electric razor or regular disposable razor?

I, like others in this thread, use safety razors and straight razors. Straight razor shaving has a bit of an up-front cost (handle, brush, cup, handle), but the ongoing cost is negligible. A pack of 10 blades cost me $6.00. The shave is also far superior to any disposable, or multi-blade razor.

Straight razors have a bit of a learning curve and a bit more in up-front costs (razor, honing, strop, brush, cup, etc.) but produce the superior shave.

It all comes down to time and end result. If I have 30-40 mins to prep and shave, I'll use a straight razor, otherwise I'll use the safety razor. I also don't shave for just appearance. I shave to have a smooth face, just not free of stubble.

The techniques used in the above shaving methods when applied to regular shaving can produce a better shave.

But, I like my bathroom time. I like getting out of a hot shower and preparing my beard. I like whipping-up the lather and lathering my face. I like the feel of the razor in my hand, the feeling of it gliding over my skin.

So, yeah - safety and straight razors FTW.

I use a Fusion Proglide too.Ut gets me baby butt smooth with no razor burn. I've tried several different style electric razors and they all burn the hell out of my skin. Even tried the norelco one that you shaved with a gel and water.

I use straight razors too! They definitely are great - always leaving a clean shave. I'm not that skilled with them yet, so sometimes if I'm in a rush, I'll just use an electric razor.

Try an after-shave lotion vs. those with alcohol.

I forgot to mention this: if you're looking to close your pores, look at getting an alum block. It closes the pores, is a mild antiseptic, helps negate razor burn, and it'll tell you how well you shaved. It does sting a bit, but not like alcohol. The sting is a function of the shave. If it stings a lot, you're burning yourself and should reduce pressure, replace blade, prepare your beard better, etc.

so after watching a bunch of youtube videos about shaving at 2 in the morning
I think the reason I cut myself like 5 times is because I didnt stretch my skin out lol

I feel like if I can master regular razors, I can get a much cleaner shave but ierno.

I'm not one to say this much outside my immediate family but the only razor I use with confidence for my sensitive skin that I must shave dry (as all types of shaving cream cause my skin to burn get red and blotchy) is the Gillete Venus.

<<shock, awe and a collective gasp reverberates throughout JUB>>

What can I say, it works wonders on my scraggly, patchy sad excuse that passes as facial hair, and I'm not sorry...all others I've tried have either caused to break out in hives or cut me like a fish!

Thankfully, I still can count on my sis to help me score those well-designed disposable cartridges at the drug store. 'Tis a shame I don't have the confidence, as of yet, to boldly go in and get it myself...maybe someday.

Re: electric razor or regular disposable razor?

Unfortunately, I grow very patchy, thin facial hair, so I don't bother with an electric razor; just a dirt-cheap disposable.

Same problem I have... you really should try shaving while you shower with the hot water.

Me too, I find it very annoying and almost chore like.

But I can't stand electric razors (more like my skin can't)

I had Norelco and Panasonic electric shavers. They were nice but blade maintenance costs were too high. I switched to razors and tried different kinds from 2 blades to the 5 bladed Gillette fusion. I settled down with 2 bladed Gillette sensor excel. It gives me closer shave and much less irritation than 3-5 bladed razors. High quality shave cream and after shave makes a huge difference for me too. I tried many and settled down on MenScience an Zuhr products.
