    Fuck North Carolina.

There is a radio program which emphasizes freedom for religion, but also freedom from religion.

Y'all might want to consider giving the program a listen.

Re: North Carolina GOP (God's Only Party) legislators introduce bill to establish official state religion

So much for Gov. Jindal's admonition that the Republican Party should stop being the stupid party. They just can't help themselves. You've got to admire them, though. They are never at a loss for ideas to make themselves look even more stupid.

Re: North Carolina GOP (God's Only Party) legislators introduce bill to establish official state religion

Why is it that the republicans continuously wipe their asses with the constitution with time and money wasting bills like this but are the first ones to wrap themselves up in it when defending guns? They claim they're the party of fiscal responsibility while wasting tax dollars like this.

Who are these people who come up with legislation like this? The inmates are running the GOP asylum.

    ADDED:

I'm looking to see what religion they want to be the official religion. No doubt it's Southern Baptist but how about Islam, Shintoism, Judaism or Animism?

have decided state secularism - the separation of church and state - is absolutely essential to respect even the slightest variation : and there is rarely perfect absolute agreement even in the smallest group : there will always be denominations and possibly other religions .Thinking aside maybe some situations like prostitution and our own sodomy are identifiably sins not crimes , not the separation of church and state .

Re: North Carolina GOP (God's Only Party) legislators introduce bill to establish official state religion

I blame this on the middle-of-the-road simpletons in the suburban areas of Charlotte, the Piedmont Triad (Winston-Salem/Greensboro/High Point), and the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) metro areas for allowing the GOP take over of NC. All this is going to do retard the state's decades of progress it has made to not be a "typical southern state" reputation, but they don't give a damn because they would rather unravel this in a handful of months. The global business community isn't down for ignorance and legislated foolishness because it runs away the best talent. This is the only reason why Charlotte and the Triangle is as relevant as they are today because of highly talented professionals from the world over.

This would almost be laughable if it wasn't so sad and dangerous.

IT is really shocking to see what the Republicans have done to NC. And it will only get worse.

It's not really dangerous when it's against the US constitution. It's fairly meaningless really...

Yes and no. Nothing is Unconstitutional realistically without enforcement. So yes they could have passed that law, then acted on it, and nothing would have happened until there was a ruling from a Federal Court that they were in violation of the constitution. Even then the SC has no enforcement arm, it relies on others - the last time the South defied the Supremes it took the National Guard to force compliance, and we're still dealing with the consequences of that.

The South has always run to states rights to defend it's bigotry - and lets not pretend that this isn't that same horse in a shiny new bridle.

The Republican Party needs another "Mr. Conservative" Senator Barry Goldwater to kick these people in the ass just like he wanted to do to Jerry Falwell.

States are apart of the country and government so no you can't establish a state theocracy either.

The amusing part is, if it passed and became law, it would be ripe for a Supreme Court challenge and it would fuck over the rest of the country that makes laws with regard to religion.

Republicans have been testing the limits of the Constitution on a lot of issues lately. This one, the abortion law in North Dakota and the sodomy laws in Virginia. I'm really getting tired of these people wiping their asses on the Constitution.

They don't care if they look stupid so long as people with large checking account balances will whip out a pen and write another campaign contribution.

Well, it would only have opened the way for a SCOTUS challenge if the state had actually acted on it -- the bill wouldn't have established a state religion, it just authorized the state to do so... purely symbolic.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

This is the reason why they are trying so hard to pass voter id laws in so many states. Local and statewide, they might iwn but htye know there is no chance in hell on a national level that they can win unless they cheat.
