Brendon Ayanbadejo to be cut by Baltimore Ravens

    .
Against Prop. 8. Spoke out in favor of marriage equality. Is anyone here surprised?

This has nothing to do with his political beliefs. He is going to be 37 in September, he hasn't really been an effective defender his whole career. His niche has been on special teams. They save $800,000 which they can use towards signing draft picks.

No,and as Wisconsin Proud said,it has nothing to do with his political beliefs and everything to do with his age and stats.

Thank you. He spoke out in favor of marriage equality years ago - he would have been cut a lot sooner if this were a factor. But let's not let facts get in the way of a good victim narrative.

Well, I suppose it's a happy coincidence that he's aged out of the NFL and is pro gay rights.

INdeed...I have a feeling he knew he would get cut,why not use your time in the spotlight for something good?
I've heard critics suggesting he was doing this as a way to make himself a hero, popular etc.
I say to them, look at the state of homophobia in sports still. As Rutgers showed,it is still acceptable by many to use homophobic slurs or call your rivals gay etc.
Brendon showed guts and will be remembered for it.

Chris, I would suggest cutting down on your huffpost reading as not everything has a hidden agenda behind it. 37 is old to be playing any sport and football especially. Course the other story is that after the Ravens won the Super Bowl, many of their eldest players, retired and he probably should have done the same especially given his weak playoff performance. The oldest player on the team is now 33 so understand that fact.

Mr. Ayanbadejo may have been talking about gays and the NFL for a couple of years, but it wasn't until recently that he received prominence. I wasn't paying much attention to his on the field prowess. My gut reaction to Mr. Ayanbadejo's comments was "say good night Gracie". To me, logically that was the Ravens' next move. It appears that the NFL isn't quite ready for diversity - and that's too bad.

Let's see... diversity. The year the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup (2010), the Cup was prominently displayed in the Chicago Pride Parade.

By the way, legendary quarterback, George Blanda played well into his forties.

Are you serious? You are WRONG. Back down already.

Teams have a very heavy degree of control as to what their players say in the media, especially during the Super Bowl. If the Ravens had a problem with anything Ayanbadejo said, he probably wouldn't have been making his most outspoken statements in favor of equality just days before the Super Bowl, when he told the national media that he disagreed with Chris Culliver and fully accepted gay people.

And if you were right, then shouldn't Chris Kluwe be getting cut any day now? After all, he's probably more outspoken about this issue than Ayanbadejo, in a way that's more abrasive to opponents of equality.

Don't be a fucking tinfoil hat here. Take it from the biggest NFL fan on this forum - there is nothing, absolutely NOTHING to your theory.

While true, he was a kicker and QB and did more kicking after turning 40 then playing QB.

You better stick with ballerinas chrisrobin --- you know nothing about football.

A 37 yo man is ancient in the NFL.

The NFL treats all players like meat

    str8 ones and gay ones

he's older and making more than they want to pay him

there are lots of other teams to pick him up if they feel he's worth it

37 in football save for a kicker perhaps is old

Have to agree with RazorzEdge in this thread. This guy was lucky has career lasted until 37, that's longer than most players.

He is...if his adovacting for gay rights was an issue, they could have easily cut him during the season..with nary a peep. Because when you get right down to it,unless you're a big star, the NFL can chew you up and spit you out no problem.
