Anxiety and mild depression. I can also lack patience and be impulsive. I'm working on it though. Getting off mild drug use and severe alcoholism has helped a lot.

Not that I know off. I do have depression and anxiety during teens. It got a lot better after I went to college. Though now I suspect I am permanently scarred from my previous ordeal with fleas. I cringe when I see wild animals or pet shops.

Ditto. Try low dose naltrexone therapy. It's worked wonders for people. I'm starting it next week.

just looked that up and naltrexone therapy doesn't have anything to do with the treatment of what i mentioned. it's for drug and alcohol issues.

Yeah, high doses of naltrexone are for those issues, but dig a little deeper on the net and you'll find that in low doses (1.5-4.5mg as opposed to 50mg) it is used for a variety of ailments, among them are all of the issues you mentioned. Believe me, I've done more than my fair share of homework on the subject. It works by increasing endorphins and creating more opiate receptors in your brain. I wouldn't lie to you or mislead you. YouTube "low dose naltrexone depression" and there is a good video about a guy giving his testimonial.

i'll look that up in a second, thanks man. to tell you the honest truth, i'm a little iffy on taking meds or any chemical related treatment as it took me a long time to even get myself to take zoloft out of fear of the side effects. you know, not trying to be dependent on chemicals although they are helping even if it's not taking care of everything that it's supposed to take care of.

there's no sexual side effects to that, is there? zoloft kinda killed my sex drive for a second.

No, one of the great things about it is that there are virtually no side effects. Some have reported insomnia if taken at bed times and vivid dreams, but none other than that. Good luck to you!

I have SAD which is a bit of a newcomer to the DSM. The doctor first thought I was bipolar but then I got a second opinion and they concluded it was SAD since I only get "moody" in the season changing months of November and March.

Depression, post traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) ocd and anxiety attacks.
I take no meds. for these problems as I hate drugs and pills (please, it's ok for others, just not me...grew up around drugs)
I spend a lot of time in a weird type of pain, I can't explain it, I want to cry and die at times, other times I feel fine, hope this isn't t.m.i.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Fortunately, I'm ridiculously sane. I think it is because of all the acid I did in college. It fried all the disfunction out of my brain.

I went through rehab for the alcoholism. Didn't really help much. I make the choice whether to drink or not and right now I choose not to. As for drugs I only take prescriptions. They are: Atenolol for blood pressure, Zocor for cholesterol, lorazapam for anxiety (when needed) and I was taking citalopram (Ativan) for depression but I ran out of it and haven't refilled it. I don't like being on an SSRI because I really can't tell if it does anything for my depression or not. I don't want to take it just for the hell of it. So right now I'm going through the withdrawals which really suck. I get these weird 'brain zings' and other crazy feelings every now and then but I can handle it. Takes a few weeks to go away then I'll be fine.

I was pretty seriously depressed for a few years, though I've been feeling 1000 times better. I still have an anxiety problem but I can't take drugs anymore to control it - give me a bottle of Xanex and it will be gone within an hour.

Wow do I ever. As a recovering alcoholic addict I find plenty to concern myself with including depressive behaviors and disorders associated with depression. Some days I just seem to plod through my required daily tasks. Thank heavens for my therapist .

Re: Do you have mental diseases or problems?

It runs in the family. In my experience, some of the features of the brain that contribute to mental illness can contribute to advantageous mental processes as well or instead. So far in my generation we've done okay.

My great wish is that we would educate children in Grade 6 or Grade 7 with mental health information. Helpful information has got to be useful to a young person who experiences early symptoms of mental illness. Currently we just offer them fear and stigma, disciplinary action instead of health care, and bullying instead of a bit of social understanding. Since many mental health conditions first emerge with adolescence, early information could make a huge difference.

They taught us all first aid in Grade 4 if I remember correctly. There should teach mental health awareness for the same reason.

I have an addictive personality and have had depression which I manage on my own......

I was REALLY LUCKY though because I found a therapist (or rather she found me) when I was young that worked solely with empaths. After a year with her almost of my anxiety and other things that bothered me were totally understood and subsided and I actually felt normal ...she gave me the tools I needed to survive and I use them to this day.

Actually, I'm enjoying it immensely. As it pertains to me, I'm very balanced and well adjusted ^_^ And where it deals with others, it just makes me feel smart

Hey JP! Just FY (as it turns out a LOT of) I; statistically, mental illness (especially schizophrenia) in young men tends to manifest itself between ages 20-30. The magic number seems to be 26 for some reason. I don't know how old you are currently, but it's just something to watch for. As with most diseases or illnesses, early detection and prompt commencement of the right treatment is key. If you start to notice little changes in your mood and/or personality that can not be attributed to something going on in your life i.e. a death, breakup, losing your job, etc., see your doctor. If you feel depressed consistently for two weeks or more, you are technically suffering from clinical depression. Don't shrug it off and think it will go away. See a doctor straight away. If he dismisses you or blows it off, see another one. The quicker you are diagnosed and begin treatment whether you choose medication, therapy (or ideally a combination of both), the better chance you have of successful remission and/or total relief from your symptoms. In addition to that, if the medication you are prescribed doesn't seem to be working in the time they say it is supposed to, if you don't like the side effects it's causing, or if you have a bad reaction to it, tell your dr. right away so you can discuss other options. Do your homework; read up on the meds that are out there from someplace reliable like webMD. A lot of times you'll learn stuff your doctor doesn't tell you or maybe doesn't even know about. Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions; it's your body and your health!

Even if you are not in this age bracket, the same holds true regarding early detection, etc.

As a sidebar, don't let the fact that your astro chart has predicted this become a self-fulfilling prophesy. Live your life as normal, not waiting for the "impending doom". That's a sure way to bring it to fruition.

If you or, anyone for that matter, have any questions about mental health, treatment, etc., PLEASE don't hesitate to PM me! I'm not an MD, but I've been dealing with mental health issues almost my whole life, so I have tons of accumulated first hand knowledge and info. I'm not a doctor and remind you that all of this is anecdotal. Always consult a professional. Peace out homies!

You're right. Citalopram is Celexa. Ativan is Lorazepam. I just mixed up the two late last night. Ativan does wonders for my anxiety. Gets rid of the nausea and that alone allows me to relax.

I suffer from bi-polar disorder. I think a lot of people on JUB have some problems and it's good that we can talk and help each other. My condition is controlled by medication, but I still have some very bad episodes as some of you long time jubbers know.

Does a little social anxiety count? Other than that I'm perfectly healthy.

Wow.... this would be an interesting dating question.... "DO you have any mental issues?"

Would save a lot of time...

Re: Do you have mental diseases or problems?

I have clinical pure obsessional OCD. Was once ashamed of admitting it, but realized the 'mental health stigma' was fucking stupid, and I got over it pretty quick. I've managed it through medication in the past, but that was a disaster. Ended up going Black Swan insane on a few of them - so I was pulled off medication. I have a core network of friends that help me manage it. Haven't had a major meltdown in quite sometime.
