A modified sound for that vowel turns up in a horrible term for Jews as well. Also, twink is imprecise, because to some degree it means different things to different people. For example, a somewhat muscular, cute young guy may be a twink to one person, but fall outside the definition for someone else, because of the muscularity.

But is trying to put labels on "big, hairy gay men" or "really skinny, young gay men" any different than the Inuit having more than 200 descriptions for snow (most of them being one or two words)?

And if you did call yourself "bisexual" my respect for you would not move on the chart, even as much as a micro-angstrom. (An angstrom is one ten-billionth of a meter, so what I'm talking about is truly a very small change, if at all.)
See, I honestly don't see anything derogatory with the word twink. It is used to describe a certain type of gay men with certain physical attributes.

I don't mind labels, they can be amusing, you can play with them and break them...
I know who I am and anyone taking an interest in me eventually will, whatever the label they first applied to me...

I don't really have a favorite label. I find labeling a bit confusing.

So, when a twink is too old be be a twink, what is he?

The world has 6 billion people. We can't possibly get to know every single person we come across in our lives. IN certain circumstances, we need to categorize in order to both understand the world and interact properly with it.

For example, do I have to get to know every American out there on an individual and personal level or can I just assume some of the most basic things when encountering an American? Can I say "hi" or "hello" or "how ya doing" to an American or do I have to get to know them personally first so I can make sure they won't take offense at such greetings?

I know I know, we're talking about individuals within a civilization. Let's look at certain people. I've met quite a few potato queens in my area. Some of them have even admitted to me that they would not ever date guy other than a white guy. Do I need to get to try to get to know why they are this way or is it safe for me to just stay away from them?

And certain words in the gay community are meant to describe a person physically. For example, my boyfriend hates the label "twink", but that's what he is. What do you think of a twink? Skinny, hairless, young, boyish looking, kinda feminine but not fruity, usually white, bottom, etc. That's what he is. Rather than having to say all those physical attributes out, can't I just use a universal term to describe him? It's not demeaning by any mean. It's just how he looks and acts.

My ex was a bear. He had a mustache, muscular but hairy body, meaty, has width, low voice, etc. Coincidentally, he was also gay. Instead of me giving out all the terms to describe him, a single word "bear" pretty much sums it all up.

Just don't categorize too much. For instance, all gay guys like to suck dick. That's a little too much, because I know I sure as hell don't like to do it.

Life is a lot more complicated than your fortune cookie sentence.
And people are a lot more complicated than lazy/easy labels.

True but does a text or spoken word, once, define you forever?

Is someone uses a term and it automatically defines you as if there are limits based on other peoples thoughts???? ... in that case I don't think the problem is the terminology.

But if you only have 30 words or 144 characters to play with... labels work, no? Perhaps not 100% accurate, but they paint a clear-enough picture for most of us to understand and to get our points across.

    Re: Gay Labels

I was asked where the straight labels were....

Slut, Cunt, Whore, Mac Daddy, Jon Holmes, backdoor man, BDSM, Swinger, dominatrix, Master, leather n lace, those are labels...just look at straight porn for ten minutes and you will hear a bunch more... they use daddy as well...

The difference being that currently it is trendy to accept gay folks and to demonstrate that folks are getting to know the terminology... so you get embarassed if a straight friend asked you a question...

    What
    The
    fuck
    Ever

My Mom moved in with me after my Dad died to get herself together. I had a variety of friends, many of them gay. She started interrogating me, my ex, and my friends... so curious.... So I bought her the joys of gay sex and the penis book... told her once she did her homework I would answer questions... she had a few more concerning what practices I engaged in... I told her to tell me all about Dad and her sex life... we stopped talking bout sex after that yet she knew terms and labels and such... the same exist on the straight side, maybe not to the same extent and is definitely not used as often to market themselves. However, how many venues do straights have to go and find a mate? Then how many do gays have in most places? We must be more effective and more descriptive or we waste time and would never get laid or to a lesser extent never find equal companions in the gay community...

What is it with people and fortune cookie language these days? Just because you can spit out a sentence in fortune cookie language doesn't mean you are a wise saint or whatever.

If you had read my post, you know the one that you quoted, more carefully, you would have seen that I also covered the part where people are more complicated than labels. I explained all of that and why labels are sometimes ok and sometimes not.

Look, talk to me directly. Stop trying to sound all wise and enlightened with your fortune cookie language.

I don't see the big deal over labels. My mom got her undergrad in sociology [before she moved into accounting] and she's the one she told me about "boxing". We as persons are a collection of labels and it is said collection of labels that makes us unique as no two persons have all the same labels. I feel that is the best reasoning to explain labels.

    Re: Gay Labels

I still believe straights use them when discussing one another but may not use them to solicit a partner...

Consider guys who like Mommies... cause they put out is the reasoning in the locker room ...but typically it is because they are grounded and calm..sometimes... take the ugly one, the fat friend,

Women talk about the bad boy or the metrosexual...

The only difference is as a community they have bar after bar after bar, and churches and the supermarket and everywhere else on earth to hook up... I had a cougar doing her best to rub up against me at the super market today... lotsa hungry mommies round here... too bad that while I look like your average corn fed pussy hound... I prefer the bratwurst to the blood pie.

I have spent my entire life around horny Sailors who predominantly like pussy. "Check out the jailbait" would easily translate to "Is that twink old enough?" when going from straight hunting to gay hunger games...

    Seriously peoples.... seeer'usly

Yeah... I would get voted as most likely not gay... my favorite club in Providence actually came up to let me know I was in a gay bar the first time I went many moons ago... I defy labels in many ways but Male and Female have described me as a surfer boy... blonde hair that gets sandy and light in the summer, board shorts and shaka....
