What are your thoughts on N. Korea?

What I don't understand is why are they poking S. Korea and the US? Everyone knows that they can't possibly win a full confrontation.

NK has put their military and rockets on full standby. They are also aiming their rockets at US targets, including GWB's house. What do you think they are planning to do?

Seriously though, it seems like the usual sabre rattling for home consumption.

This one has been a lot more vocal about starting something than his father was. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's trying to prove to his subjects that he can be a leader the world fears. Frankly if the bloke is stupid enough to get into a pissing contest with the US and their allies he's going to end up hanging from a gibbet like Saddam Hussain.

i don't care about what happens on the other side of the world when i have to deal with issues from my own government who wants to be a pain in my ass. if that dude wants to blow up the world, i commend him because this world is fucked up and maybe we should all cease to exist so the universe would be a better place. the greatest threat to humans besides nature is humans.

Something I think generally not recognized is that I think the Korean War ( predominantly US but also Australia Canada and several others ) did not actually formally end in a victory-surrender but in a cease fire , so we are all still technically at war should whoever decide the North Koreans are getting too pushy . After 60 years it really should be over .

They have been making threats for decades upon decades. Their latest show is just huffing and puffing. The Chinese will hear none of it. The Chinese have $100+ Billion in trade with South Korea alone and China's economic relationship with the United States is intrinsic. China trades significantly with both the United States and south Korea. Money talks more than old relationships. China has written the latest set of economic sanctions and have started to secure the border with North Korea.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/17/wo...anted=all&_r=0

Many Chinese officials and nationals are becoming unhappy with North Korea.

North Korea are losing a traditional ally because of their reckless behavior.

    http://news.yahoo.com/analysis-belli...-business.html

We want to stabilize the situation? All we need to look towards is Beijing. If the North Korean leadership is really that stupid to go against China, they'll fail miserably.

Re: What are your thoughts on N. Korea?

Kim jong Un is bluffing. He's trying to make himself appear tough to his people so he's rattling his saber.

There is a joint North Korean / South Korean area called the Kaesong Industrial Complex near the border. It's factories in NK run and managed by SK but employs cheap NK labor. It's still up and running like always giving NK much needed hard currency. If it should shut down then it's time to worry but it's running smoothly.

North Korean leaders do their saber rattling from time to time to get attention and foreign aid. Their propaganda photos of their "war room" released in the past few days have been proven to be altered.

Kim Jong Un is westernized, having been educated in Europe. He loves American basketball.

He and his generals need to puff out their chests from time to time to put on a show for their people and the world, trying to remain relevant.

North Korea is a combination of cute and crazy, like a pet house cat.

It would solve a lot of issues if he'd actually pull something. Even China hinted a couple of years ago they would welcome a united Korea with the southern democracy in charge. Its a different world now, and China needs a vibrant economy to feed her own people. Lil Kim is pissing on an electric fence, he just doesn't know it yet. His people literally starve while he plays his game. I favor ending any form of aid until his family's dynasty is gone. Then I favor whatever world $ is needed to get them back into the world economy and able to care for themselves. It's time for this pathetic joke to end. Those people have suffered enough.

I need to dig up the source... but it is said North Korean soldiers themselves only get 500 calories of food a day. It seems Kim is getting quite a bit more than that.

NORTH Korea has announced it has entered a "state of war'' with South Korea and will deal with every inter-Korean issue accordingly.

"As of now, inter-Korea relations enter a state of war and all matters between the two Koreas will be handled according to wartime protocol," the North said in a joint statement attributed to all government bodies and institutions.

I think its scary to think that the North Koreans have been told lies about the World and they (the Korean people) think their way of life is the good way of life. Its like a Jim Jones cult.

I remember when Russia shot down a commercial airliner (or maybe it was their airliner that was shot down), I really thought there was going to be a nuclear war because of it. The World is a better place to live in without worrying that nuclear weapons are going to be launched.

    It's called propaganda.
It has nothing to do with N.Korea really wanting to attack USA.
I think N.Koreans are starting to understand in what sort of cesspit they live in.
The chubby teenager who leads this country is desperate to show his citizens that N. Korea is a Superpower in order to avoid social unrest.

I think their isolationism has left them with an insular mentality.

Now if the USofA could have just preserved the mentality of the Cold War, replete with McCarthyism, witchhunts, sabre rattling... etc we'd have a North Korea.

NK has always been obsessed with taking over South Korea. The more empoverished it becomes, the more they see reunification under Kim as the only solution. It is how they justify starving the people while building the military-- all will be solved when they redistribute the wealth of the South. The big danger is that they may see a desparate attack on the South as the only chance of preventing the collapse of their regime.

If Baby Kim was going to attack he would just go and do it, instead of posting photoshopped pictures of his weapons and war room. He's trying to make himself look like a strong leader for his people by talking tough.

    In simplicity there is truth.

    One does not write checks

    with ones mouth

That ones ass can not cash

Mr Kim has done so. Now it is time

to bounce his check and close his

    firmly and permanently.

    1. Impose total economic sanctions for whatever trade we do with them (and strongly urge our allies to do likewise)
    2. Fortify our position with our allies (South Korea, Japan, and any other country in the area desiring our protection)
    3. Admonish that petty little dictator internationally for his nefarious deeds

if that should fail...send an international armada to cut off the water ports.

if that should fail.....nuke them! If he wants to play with big-boy weapons, he has to understand and experience their dangerous, terrifying might first hand.
