Well yeah, racism is racism, can't really paint it in too many different ways...

    More thread derailing.

Whether or not Brazilians are Hispanic or not it doesn't change the fact that a republican congressman used a racial slur.
Jockboy, Cowboy, Ninja and others: I think it's best to just people these posters on ignore. They argue just to argue. This is a slur and the troll apologized for using the slur in the interview. So why are posters here splitting hairs on the meaning of the word?

PLEASE put these people arguing here on ignore.

It may be a slur, but it is not a racial slur, since it relates only to their illegal entry. Why should we not slur law breakers and invaders?

Back in the day, brazil nuts were called "nigger toes". Today, if I am a Republicon, can I continue this tradition? Let's hear it for the "Republicon Big Tent!"

    Really?

Yes, really. Take a W.O.G. to lunch this week. Hot damn! How "diverse" we are!

Slur invaders? Then slur yourself. White men invaded this country and stole it from the Natives that were already there. Thanks for showing the massive hypocrisy.

Oh and the term "wetback" is a fucking racist term. Look up the history and stop making excuses.

Having been born here, I am not an invader. But new immigrants are indeed invaders, We should not make the mistake the native Americans did.

So it was ok for your family but now that you - the center of the universe - are here, everyone else needs to stfu and gtfo?

Even if my family were invaders, I am not because I was born here.
Times have changed since my family came, and we now have many millions of poor and unemployed. It makes no sense to allow millions more.

And what would that mistake be that my people made? Are you gonna make another racist remark about Native Americans? Watch it! I'm one of them.

This is of course a massive lie. And it's historical revisionism. Many of those immigrants from Mexico are ethnically and culturally similar to those Native Americans here.

Seriously GTFO. Everyone is tired of the racist claims. This country doesn't belong to you.

Oh yes, millions are poor and unemployed because we had 8 years of a moron who spent trillions on two wars and stupid tax cuts for the rich... while presiding over one of the worst recessions since 1929. And guess what? Right wingers, like the ones on here, VOTED FOR HIM. The war criminal Bush is still free after committing so many crimes against the American people and other countries.

Perhaps question your beliefs. And nobody is allowing millions more. Immigration is actually declining. I hammered this point time and time again but to no avail. Get a grip.

Dude. This is one poker game you don't double-down on. Drop it, and apologize like the Republican Congressman did.

Not that this means much or really changes the landscape of this hateful nonsense, but since when did "wetback" become a slur against Mexicans? I always thought it was a disgusting slur specifically levelled against those immigrants from Puerto Rico (it being an ISLAND and all)

There is a huge river between us and Mexico... so for a long time.

What I find disturbing about the immigration issue is that the Government of Mexico wants us to adopt a generous immigration policy. They also encourage us to allow the undocumented workers inside our borders to stay and become citizens.

All things we should do... however, do any of you know what happens if you attempt illegal entry into Mexico?

No. It was directed towards those immigrants who cross the Rio Grande river. It's a xenophobic and racist term.
