He probably does. The thing is Republicians will propably do okay in 2014 (the miniority party usually does) so they will repeat the same mistakes they made in 2012 in 2016.

It is not a racial slur, and has nothing to do with race. It is entirely a reference to their illegal invasion of our country. There is no reason we should be polite to the invaders.

My family has been in Texas for about 170 years. Surely somewhere in my past I have Mexican blood in me, and some may have swam the Rio Grande. You, sir, are a racist!

What a crock of BS and a lack of understanding of history. They weren't invaders pal. Many of them were in California, New Mexico and Texas before the white men invaded. And it most definitely is a racist and xenophobic term.

I agree this is demeaning, the term wetback and is racial, or directed at a certain type of culture
How about the word "redneck"? It means the same thing towards whites and is used without any hesitation by a lot people.
I know the word has crossed my lips more then once at least today.
In this case Don Young is the redneck making fun of a wetback no matter how much superior he thinks he is. Just another piece of trash.

For our purposes, the term Representative Young used to describe migrant workers is indeed a racial or ethnic slur.

Who is he using the "c**t" word towards? Sarah Palin. Absolutely correct.

Calling a political figure a "c**t" is not worse than the racist attacks towards Obama by the right wingers on this forum... it's not personally insulting any poster.

I find the term "wetback" personally offensive.

Jack + foot + mouth = ever the most epic of wins.

Jack, love, do you realize that with the comparison you just made, you basically stated that there is a particular group of people - of which Fake-Governor Pailin is a member - that can be offensively called "cunts"? And do you realize that the logical conclusion of your statement is that she is IN FACT a cunt, yet you prefer us to use a more polite term?

I mean, blacks ARE black, however polite or offensive the term used. So is Palin a cunt as well? I am just trying to clarify here.

People with the referenced opinion are politically powerful in the GOP. The party is doomed so long as the referenced rhetoric leaks out, and the Latino population swells.

Thank you for reminding me about this. Benvolio Let's talk about History. You know that Texas belonged to Mexico at one time.It was a group of Texicans that invaded Mexico, you know "your kind" and took Texas away from Mexico. Do you think we sent all the Latinos back to Mexico? Not hardly. Everyone around here are brothers in name, Texans!

Brazil is not Hispanic. It's culture is different, and Spain and Portugal have been enemies for much of history. You disparate need to lump them together as Latinos merely emphases your painful awareness of the economic and political failure of the Hispanic countries. Brazilians are not the ones invading our country.

Wow. WRONG! Wrong, wrong and wrong! Look up history please. And please don't talk about my country, Spain... it just shows how little one knows about the history of Latin America. Thanks for sharing that bullshit. And there are many Brazilians in this country. My painful awareness? What economic and political failure of Hispanic countries? Stop talking about countries you show no understanding about. Asides from getting all the facts and history wrong...

And a racist xenophobe hardly knows the history of Brazil, Argentina, Chile or other countries in the region. All of which are economic powerhouses. So spare me the historical revisionism. Plain pure ignorance.

Oh and despite some problems Mexico might have, their economy exceeds $1.5 trillion, and is becoming one of the larger economies in the world (it ranks 11th or 10th right now). Mexico the last couple of years have seen a galloping economy that has posted strong GDP growth rates and strong foreign investment, despite issues with narco-violence. The government has started to reduce the violence, which has been noted by increasingly security.

Speaking of Brazilians... i had a great convo yesterday on the Plaza in Loverly Kansas City with a well spoken chap who hailed from Brazil... we discussed Argentina and why they can't do anything right

I am also very good friends with a Brazilian who drives a truck and lives in KC... him and his husband don't seem to have an issue going out on Latin night and the cowboy bar... weird... you would think they would know they are NOT actually Hispanic....

    the nerve........

I will hafta change all the Navy's records too since all those damn Brazilians in America have checked Latino for their ethnic catagory.

thanks for bringing this to my attention Benvolio... I will ensure the US government stops recognizing the heritage people claim as their own....

Argentina seems to be fine, so I would argue that point, jh... they also exceed other countries in Latin America in terms of equal rights.

Brazilians are definitely Hispanic. Hispania refers to Portugal and Spain.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispania

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Co...a_Hispania.svg

Simple. Hispania is the Roman name for the ENTIRE Iberian penisula.

Therefore, Benvolio is full of it once again.

WRONG. Brazilians are NOT Hispanic. Benvolio got it right.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latino

While the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, Hispanic is a narrower term which only refers to persons of Spanish-speaking origin or ancestry, while Latino is more frequently used to refer more generally to anyone of Latin American origin or ancestry, including Brazilians. Hispanic thus includes persons from Spain and Spanish-speaking Latin Americans excluding Brazilians (who speak Portuguese) while Latino excludes persons from Spain but includes both Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking Latin Americans.

WRONG! I am ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Hispania refers to all of the Iberian peninsula, thus exposing a serious contradiction in Wikipedia. Absolutely 1000% correct. And I don't expect some right wing republicans to tell me otherwise.

Don't even try to "pwn" me on a background that one has little understanding about.

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...provincial.PNG

This is a division of Hispania. Wikipedia needs to be re-edited. Hispania too refers to Portugal. Thus proving my claim.

    Keep up the falsehoods, JQ!

And one knows about Spain? Like what? Explain to me what Spain is about. I'd like to hear this one!

    More information on Hispania: http://www.spainthenandnow.com/spani...efault_91.aspx

Hispania refers to the ENTIRE Iberian province. I won't ever use Wikipedia in my argument again because they can't even stay consistent or look at historical arguments. Hispania does not refer to Spanish speaking either.

By the way, I referred to Brazil as Latino and on that claim I am TOTALLY CORRECT.

^^^ No, Benvolio is still wrong.

Portuguese language dictionaries define "Hispanic" as related to either Hispania or Spanish.

    http://www.priberam.pt/dlpo/default....hisp%C3%A2nico

The US government also includes people of Portuguese origin under Hispanic, in the US Census and various departments.

That was my opinion and that is MY DATING PREFERENCE. I am not claiming I know anything about India. By the way, I never said anything about Pakistani men. My sister is married to a Pakistani man and he's a really nice guy... and he actually accepts who I am.

So what is it does one know about Spain? I'd like to hear it. Next time realize "Hispanic" does NOT refer to Spanish speaking. "Hispanic" originates from the Roman word "Hispania" referring to the ENTIRE IBERIAN peninsula. And I REFERRED to Brazilians as LATINOS. Which they are 10000000% are. Why? Because Latino itself is derived from Latin. Latin languages include Portuguese.

    History lessons are fun.

For the love... GC I was referring to the Brazilian man telling about how wrong Argentina is as we talked...I was amused at the intense nationalism .... hence the LOL smiley... climb off the tower sweets. Nobody needs to get done today....

You cant tell me, with all the travel you have done in SA that you dont recognize damn near everyone looks down on every other country... their seperate nature is the reason that continent isnt a power house as of yet... they will get there.... and soon...

On the rest of the thread...

These semantical arguments amuse the fuck out of me... a republican uses a derogatory slur and the brainwashed round here work it into a semantics argument about the definition of Hispanic...

The fucking shithead said WETBACK which is a ethnic slur... talk to the issue and stop obfuscating ye ole defenders of the ignorant racist....

Oh I know full wel about how countries don't look highly to each other. Peruvians towards Chileans, Peruvians towards Ecuadorians, Chileans towards Argentinians, Argentinians towards Brazilians (try football matches between Argentina and Brazil for that rivalry)... trust me I know. The continent is quickly becoming a powerhouse though, and progress has been made on mercosur.

Oh and I'm not on any "tower". I'm just making a discussion. Though it's off topic.

I used to defend some republican ideas and many I still hold but the net positive of that set of ideas on the right is not greater than the negatives.... I used to argue some of those good iudeas from the right... and still believe in them ideas but I cannot say I have actively defended a bigot....

On that I agree. It disturbs me when some (on here included) defend ideologues that hate them. They try to come up with excuses and sugarcoat what the ignorant politician or public figure says.

Are you f-ing stupid? It is a racial slur like ni**er is to us black Americans. You really need to STFU because there is not reason somebody ought to broad brush any racial group with a derogatory statement.

And that is why the Republicians party will struggle on a national level. Benvolio isn't the only Republican to think that way and the people who vote know it.

I've always known you're a racist, but it's nice to see it explicitly in your own words.

Honestly, I enjoy when a bigot and/or ignoramus lets themselves be known. It is refreshing and exposes the growth that needs to occur in this nation on racial and ethnic issues. Idiots like Young need to be clowned upon and his defenders ought to be called what they are "enablers". Yeah, I'm talking to you, Benvolio, Jack Springer, and JayQueer.

You like to enable bigotry and willful ignorance, so you will be clowned on for it from here on out until you renege on your acceptance and tacit consent on such behaviors.

Meanwhile, I know you are itching to call President Obama a ni**er. I'm awaiting for you slip up so I can laugh my black ass off at you. Us in the know, see you and awaiting acknowledgement of your aversive racial bias towards us black males.

P.S. And I know more about Spain than you know about India
How old are you? This is elementary school thinking.

    More thread derailing.

Whether or not Brazilians are Hispanic or not it doesn't change the fact that a republican congressman used a racial slur.
