took a San Francisco audience by surprise Sunday night, launching into a fire-and-brimstone rant about same-sex marriage and California’s Proposition 8 during her second set.

“When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilization, and Jesus will come back,” a visibly agitated Shocked told the crowd at Yoshi’s, the majority of whom walked out of the concert.

“Thank you for coming, ladies and gentlemen. This show is over,” the club’s manager announced over the public address system.

“It's not over,” Shocked fired back. She continued to sing, but Yoshi’s management cut off her mic and turned off the stage lights, according to The Bay Area Reporter.

[Updated 3/18: Lisa Bautista, Yoshi's director of marketing, who was not present for Shocked's performance, said her staff was justified in shutting down the show. Club manager Chris Osborne and sound project manager Keith Yansurat managed the show and they made the decision to end it when Shocked became offensive.

"Michelle Shocked has appeared in three performances at Yoshi's and she never demonstrated any anti-gay or racist views," Bautista said. She added that they had no advance warning this would happen and they would have canceled her if they had known what she intended to do.

"Michelle Shocked will definitely not be coming back to Yoshi's," Bautista said. She said other venues have been calling to verify what happened Sunday evening. "It is a very unfortunate situation and we apologize for it."]

I do not, nor have I ever, said or believed that God hates homosexuals (or anyone else). I said that some of His followers believe that. I believe intolerance comes from fear, and these folks are genuinely scared. When I said "Twitter that Michelle Shocked says "God hates faggots," I was predicting the absurd way my description of, my apology for, the intolerant would no doubt be misinterpreted. The show was all music, and the audience tweets said they enjoyed it. The commentary came about ten minutes later, in the encore.

She tries to pass this off as, "I was making a supposition as to the thoughts of radicals."

I believed the guy who reported it...alot of people did...and there was no attempt from her to deny it until years later when it affected her pocketbook.
