The RNC would have to make some extremely drastic policy changes and that's not going to happen with Priebus in charge. Priebus is a far right conservative and has already stated that he won't agree to policy changes, only logistical changes. In other words, he's pushing the GOP to seek out converts, not compromise. Spending $10 million (his figure) on logistical changes (including opening an office in San Francisco) is not going to advance the party when it was already proven that the hundreds of millions they spent on putting Romney in the oval office was an epic fail. Republicans still don't get it.

It's pretty much the case in all big California cities. Republicans have lost San Diego completely too.

Here in LA we had a primary with 15% turn-out. We would all think that such a low turn-out would be great for republicans. It wasn't. The two candidates facing off are both democrats. LOL.

Yes, I remember. Mr. Ehrlich (sorry for my misspelling!) defeated Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the sitting LT Gov. Ms. Townsend, IMO, was not a clueless candidate per se, but just lackluster. There was no chemistry, charisma. She did strike me as being very smart.

Gov. Ehrlich is a good looking man, with a terrific looking wife/family. By the time he was running for re-election, he had become well known, and his popuarity was declining. By then Maryland residents had gotten to know him, and that wasn't necessarily a good thing for his political career.

Campaign mismanagement means many different things to me. It's not always the staff but the candidate himself. You know, like Mitt Romney?

But let's get back to the topic of the GOP turning over a new leaf. I think they'll find much of the same crap on the other side of their new leaf...

I doubt it. I can see Democrats picking up other seats elsewhere. I don't think they are going to lose out considering the shape republicans are in. They certainly won't lose control of the Senate. Perhaps lose a seat or two.

I don't think so. Richard Nixon inextricably incorporated racism into the Republican Party with his "southern strategy," and Ronald Reagan inextricably wedded the party to Christian fundamentalism.

I don't believe it is possible to separate either of these things from Republicanism. These two features have become the definition of Republicanism. The Republican Party is most emphatically not an American conservative party. It is a religious party of extreme Christian fundamentalism (analogous to an American Taliban). It is incapable of governance, because religious fundamentalists cannot compromise. They speak for God. And you cannot negotiate with God, even when He's wrong (which is surprisingly often).
