"Fag Hag"? "Fruit Fly"? By Any Name, They're Bigger Than Ever
http://www.villagevoice.com/2013-03-...chael-musto/2/
For some reason, this article bothered me. I've always been really annoyed with the whole "fag hag" phenomenon and I guess this reminded me just how much.
There is no place for "fag hags" and the like in my life. Every single good friend I have would still have me if I woke up straight tomorrow. It's awesome knowing that.

It's bothersome since the terms are not only derogatory to the women they refer to but the gay people they are friends with.

The term is one thing. Michael Musto used other terms in the article for the same reason.
But just the existence of these women is even worse IMO.

Well, the term fag hag came from people demeaning the girls who were good friends with the known gays back in school. Just like the word "queer" had a negative connotation to it. And then these terms were "taken back" by the gay community.
It's a way to make a come back, I guess. women who were called fag hags as derogatory started calling themselves fag hags so their offenders had no where to go and left. Same with taking the back the word "queer". You make that word not offensive anymore and voila they're suppose to disappear.

Once again, it's not the term, it's the people that bother me.

OH, ok. I misread you.
Up until very recently, I was surrounded by fag hags. I stopped going out so much with them, though. I've realized a few things.
(1) They've been using me as a date that won't try to get in their pants.
(2) This tells me they don't like sex.
(3) If they want me to escort them out again, I better get a blowjob or something afterward. No more freebies for women. Get on their knees and earn their date!

It pisses me off that these women reduce us to nothing more than a pretty trinket that spouts affirmations of their beauty.

I don't think Fag-Hags are evil. Most of them seemed like nice, inept, socially awkward women with low self esteems who had a hard time socializing with men in general. Given their starving need for some kind of male companionship, and a lot of closeted gays 'need' for a 'beard' cover, it seems like a pretty fair trade in co-dependance / mutual social parasitic behavior for these two groups to hang out together. The Fag Hags I knew weren't necessarily trying to get into a gay guys' pants, they only wanted to be able to socialize with good looking guys who treated them like an equal without having to worry about having to fend off the guys sexually at the end of the night.

I've never understood the whole "Fag Hag" phenomena, it just seems weird from both sides. Lesbians don't have the male equivalent of a Fag Hag, what's up with that?

For men who have many lesbian friends the slang terms Dutch Boy, lesbro or dyke tyke apply.

I loathe fag hags. If you have friends who are girls, that's one thing. The reason so many gays have lots of she-friends is the natural way the US school system works. But females who accessorize their lives with "fabulosity" by having gay friends, make me sick. In too many cases they are just total losers who can never get a date or aren't very popular with other girls, and so stick to men who won't turn them away. It's appalling.
Btw, the term might have started as an insult but it has been adopted by them now, and they enjoy it, so I don't consider it offensive.

I don't have a problem so much with fag hags in that there were times in my life when I felt like I was being shunned by straight AND gay men. Sympathetic females were at times my only friend(s) in the world. Looking back, I felt like we connected mostly on bitching about men in general, but at the time, being able to vent to someone understanding was enough for me at the time.
My only real problem with Fag Hags was, within a gay bar once there was a huge collection of fag hags (each gay guy brought 1 or 2), the straight guys flocked in and would try to take over the bars as a "fun" place to dance and meet women. It was also annoying in the gay stripper bars when flocks of women would come in for their girls night out/bridal things.
... I guess I'm a little on the fence/torn on the subject.

Yeah, single girls are the bottom feeders of the gay bar scene...

Such tired ass language, like people can't adapt or some shit.
I've had a lot of female friends who are great. I just don't like it when I feel like they're friends with me because I'm gay. They feel like they can't relate to my life and it's insulting how wrong they are. I don't lead a fabulous life.

Read this like five minutes ago. Mouth still hanging open at how on-point this post is. You practically read my mind.
These women... probably couldn't tell you much about their friends other than them being gay.
