CPAC participant defends slavery at Minority Outreach Panel

Is there hope for republicans if some o the grass roots still have this kind of outlook?

I'm however heartened that some progressives in the audience found the stance outageous.

    http://thinkprogress.org/justice/201...rity-outreach/

The exchange occurred after an audience member from North Carolina, 30-year-old Scott Terry, asked whether Republicans could endorse races remaining separate but equal. After the presenter, K. Carl Smith of Frederick Douglass Republicans, answered by referencing a letter by Frederick Douglass forgiving his former master, the audience member said “For what? For feeding him and housing him?” Several people in the audience cheered and applauded Terry’s outburst.

Wait... a second... they called this a minority outreach panel? LOL. Yeah... they sure did a fine job at that. Plant or not, it's hilarious.

For base partisan reasons, Defendants have encouraged Blacks to think the Republicans think that they are inferior. But it is not true. And, remember, both of GWBush 's Secretaries of State, the highest Cabinet position were Blacks, and when it appeared Colin Powell would run polls showed he was overwhelmingly the choice of Republicans. What Republicans have not done is to promise more and more welfare and freebies to minorities to buy their votes.

    That statement makes little sense...

It most definitely is true. Republicans do think blacks are inferior.

And, remember, both of GWBush 's Secretaries of State, the highest Cabinet position were Blacks, and when it appeared Colin Powell would run polls showed he was overwhelmingly the choice of Republicans. Colin Powell proves what exactly? And where is the welfare and freebies Obama has promised minorities? I still didn't get my fucking gift card. Stop bullshitting everyone on here with that same old Bill O'Reilly recycled nonsense.

Republicans offer economic misery with their illogical economic policies. The democrats didn't offer more welfare and freebies. They offered actual fucking jobs republicans took away.

What have the prosecutors encouraged Blacks to think? And what were their reasons?

You should read about the irrational fear of losing "white America". I wish I could find the article again as it's quite a harrowing read. Sad that most conservatives lack the intellectual ability to judge people on their merit instead of their features.

No one should really be shocked, let alone any republicans. The majority of them think that way but too afraid to say it and yet they still can't understand why they lost he election and will keep coming up on the ass end until they evolve or die off, i'm fine with either. I got a few right here in south ga to start with. Some of these people are still made at the 2008 election, let alone 2012.

Did this come as a surprise to anyone? Many conservatives who attend these functions hold closeted racists feelings and we've all known that. This guy just came out and said it, breaking the sacred vows of being a died hard conservative. Of course they'll come out and give a weak condemnation of this, but it really shows what a lot of them are thinking.

Be thankful, Mr. President, for the roof over your head and the food on your plate!

That's not a photo shop job. Sorry to burst the bubble. Also look closely and see how the letters fold with the shirt. Definitely a real shirt made by the bigots that make up most of the GOP.

This was a CPAC Minority Outreach Panel.

And a white, male participant is defending slavery. Some outreach.

And Republicans wonder why they have a problem attracting minorities.

    No, they're debating slavery.

You're saying that photographers don't use photoshop to enhance their photos? Sorry, but photos are always cleaned up. No where does it say that mr. sabau didn't change the photo -- just shows he took it.

They've had some lineup of speakers at CPAC: Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum, Ted Cruz, Michelle Bachman. It's a fucking clown show. If I were a Republican, I'd be too embarrassed to admit it.

The photo was completely real. I know denial is a difficult thing to deal with it. It's ABSOLUTELY real, and if one were to look at it closely it was totally authentic.

I only post in about a quarter of the threads in CE&P because I've discovered it is impossible to carry on a conversation with Republicans. There is no such thing as reality for them. They live in a fantasy world without science, without facts, and where scholarship is an evil, liberal plot.

    Funny you should say that.

GOProud leader Jimmy LaSalvia said exactly that at CPAC on Thursday. "I'm embarrassed to be a Republican right now."

The fact is the sub-Saharan indigenous peoples brought to this continent centuries ago were preliterate stone age savages. The other fact completely ignored by most on the left is that there is more slavery today in real time on the continent of Africa than was ever experienced during the European slave trade of years past. Where is the outcry?

Slavery is a terrible thing. Slavery is still present today. Slavery will never be eradicated from humanity simply because of the nature of man himself.

In centuries past slaves were a fact of life and society. Slaves were spoils of war or conquest. Let me make this clear. EVERYONE has been a slave to another group at some point in time.

So, what, they deserved to be slaves since they were ignorant savages who needed to be civlizsed?

    LOL

Slavery is terrible but evidently not so terrible if you enslave ignorant savages and someone else does it too? Justified because of "human nature?"

That may be a fact, but how is it relevant? The important fact is that they owned themselves, regardless of their level of technology, and that self-ownership was violated.

All I have to do is go sit in one of the bars in the south end of this county to hear statements claiming that bringing those "savages" to "civilization" did them a favor, just as the racist in the video was doing. But it can only be a favor if it's a good thing to deprive someone of liberty and the pursuit of happiness and in the process denying that their life has any value.

No actual Christian could ever say such a thing: if Christ died for all, then the value of each and every individual is exactly the same.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

How fortunate, then, that we enslaved these unenlightened savages. Without us, they might never have appreciated the worst of human putrefaction.

So that bullshit answer excuses slavery? What fact is left out by the left? Oh and as far as there being more slavery today, that's also a false answer. Historical revisionism isn't a good thing. What was done in the 17th and 18th centuries was far more severe as it depopulated entire countries.

Slavery is a terrible thing. Slavery is still present today. Slavery will never be eradicated from humanity simply because of the nature of man himself.
And who on the left is denying that slavery doesn't exist today? Sex slavery is perhaps a serious problem that the international community is trying to combat against.

In centuries past slaves were a fact of life and society. Slaves were spoils of war or conquest. Let me make this clear. EVERYONE has been a slave to another group at some point in time.
And this excuses absolutely nothing, nor does it make it correct. People also thought burning people at the stake was correct too.

Your answers are so incredibly weak and misfounded... they try to justify it based on some sort of misconception. As far as those from sub-saharan Africa being illiterate savages... bullshit. One of the biggest libraries in the world is in Timbuktu. The number of artifacts and documents in that library far exceeds anything in Europe it is said, and thank goodness the French stepped in to help save it.

Again. ONE OF THE BIGGEST LIBRARIES AND COLLECTION OF MANUSCRIPTS IN THE WORLD. Luckily 95-97% of them were saved from destruction.

Africa is the murder, rape and AIDS capital of the world, not to mention ignorance, unemployment, economic stagnation, and incredibly poor land management. I personally think that qualifies for putrefaction. I suppose it is one of the "in the eye of the beholder" things.

And who made it that way? That's right. Colonial powers, many of which drew up arbitrary borders. Still doesn't change the fact that one of the largest libraries in the world is in Sub-saharan Africa.

Dude--please pay a little attention so as not to derail this thread, as you and your ilk are wont to do.

In this thread, the OP is talking about the Republican party's conservative meeting CPAC in the United States, not Africa. This convo is about slavery in the United States, not Africa.

Slavery ended 148 years ago. Since then AfricanAmericans have been kept down by immigration and resulting discrimination.

Why am I not surprised that the Republicans would fuck this up?
