    Relationship Books?

Anyone have any good books about relationships, dating, etc.? Just curious to know if there is anything out there worth reading.

    Re: Relationship Books?

IMO books on relationships is like learning how to drive from a textbook. Sure, you can get some fundamental rules and direction, but ultimately it takes lots of road time behind the wheel (practice) if you want to be good at it.

Be open, honest, communicate, compromise, and throw out the expectations of a perfect, Disney fairy tale.

I suggest "Mr. Right is Out There: The Gay Man's Guide to Finding & Maintaining Love," and "Keeping Mr. Right: The Gay Man's Guide to Lasting Relationships," both by Dr. Kenneth D. George. ..... I also suggest for one's self that can help you as a person and subsequently in relationships, "The Velvet Rage: Overcoming the pain of growing up gay in a straight man's world," 2nd Edition by Dr Alan Downs..... Now to see if all this reading I have done will serve me well! LOL!

I suggest trust your instincts, be honest and don't expect the other guy to read your mind when you want/don't want/like/don't like something. That's the ONE universal rule of relationships. Anything else is so dependent on your personal situation, that no book will help you.
That we are capable only of being what we are, remains our unforgivable sin.

If you're a reader a good book can't hurt. Start with the suggested titles. Check out the local gay bookstore if you're lucky enough to have one nearby or peruse the gay and the self help sections at Barnes and Noble. Books won't be able to offer a blueprint but they'll describe common pitfalls and also good communication skills.
