Re: Why are republicans supporting gay marriage now?
The PC Brigade need to draw up their Authorised List of Victims, so we can differentiate the "real victims" from those "whiny pretend-victims".

And the Bullshit Brigade needs to come up with their usual au contrarian tactics so they can disagree with others for the hell of it.

Example of whiny pretend-victims: white people who feel oppressed and overrun with nonwhites in first world societies. Sound like somebody you know? Somebody named you?

And you strike me as one of those people who don't know me and have never talked to me, yet see me arguing with a black guy and rush to the PC assumption without looking in depth. Maybe we're both wrong?

Re: Why are republicans supporting gay marriage now?
What in the holy fuck is going on here? This is what I can gather:
-Rolyo starts a thread about some growing Repub strategery of appealing to gays (or not pissing them off)
-Some agenda-driven freakazoid comes in and, apropos of nothing, starts bitching about race
-In a mind-bending twist of reality, the resident conservatards, including trollshaw and the town drunk, take the side of the guy who posted the non sequitur about race, in what can only be called the most ironic thing since Newt Gingrich campaigned on the "sanctity of marriage"
And now FallenArousal is taking the side of trollshaw, boozy mcdrunkpants, and the race-baiter, without any sense of context.
This is my take, but this can't actually be happening. It's too much like some Twilight Zone episode where some real person finds himself stuck in a bad sitcom episode.

Lol, other than the fact that I wasn't the one who started the topic, that was pretty much spot on.

Thanks for summing that up so nicely....I was gertting a Twilight Zone vibe myself. I don't get even a hint of racism from Rolyo and I find it hard to beleive anyone else does.

Haha, yeah, you were so active in it that I fooled myself.
I'm glad I'm not losing it over here, though.

Re: Why are republicans supporting gay marriage now?
I don't really see it as republicans supporting it, I see it more as they see it as inevitable and there is no longer any point in opposing it, and as shocking as it sounds there are gay republicans out there, they're few and far between but they exist, and once gay equality is reached who know, maybe the republicans will have a change at getting the southern gay vote.

Laughable really

I know exactly what I said. You just revealed how myopic and callous (you are along with many others) can be about anything outside of your worldview...

Re: Why are republicans supporting gay marriage now?
The pressure on Republicans to stay socially conservative on gay issues really has not abated appreciably in Congress, and the majority of states. Those who have come out in favor of same sex marriage and other gay rights initiatives do not have the power to threaten Republicans in office with primary challenges, whereas the social conservatives do.
Only 21 states have laws to protect LGBT people from discrimination, and only 19 of those have partnership laws, out of 50. Every single one of those 21 states voted for Barack Obama in the last two elections. Only only Republican state chamber has ever passed a stand alone gay rights bill, the Senate of New York.
We have had a few Republicans break ranks for federal legislation, but as far as the day when stand alone pro-gay legislation can pass a Republican chamber of Congress? That day remainds to be seen.

So where are your topics about immigrants, abortion and European gay issues again?
