Is my cat crazy?

Most of the time my cat looks indignant and even angry right after she poops in her litter box. She'll come running out of the bathroom (where her box is) and jump onto my bed and look at me with that indignant look, with pupils fully dilated. Then she'll race out of my bedroom and go down the hall, turn around and then come charging into the bedroom again. She'll do this one or two times. In about 30 seconds, she's back to normal.

Also, my cat refuses to poop in a clean litter box. Every time I change the litter (once a week), she will poop on the floor right by the litter box. She'll pee in the box but she won't poop in it. The next day, when she poops again, it will be in the litter box.

I rescued my cat a year ago from an animal shelter. She's two years old.

Have you ever heard of such behavior? If you have a cat, have you ever experienced something like this?

Our cats tear around greatly after dumping a load. They aren't indignant...just charged up because they are so much lighter.

However, Not good for kitty to be pooping outside the litter box. As weird as it is, when you clean the box, maybe put one turd pile back in so that she knows it is hers.

This is great advice. My cat also acts strange after using the litter box, and will often Mreow really loud after using it, like he's saying, "Damn I just took the biggest shit!", and then runs around like a spaz. He's adorable, but crude.

But, I agree with rareboy, something should be done about the litter situation (poop on the floor). It might be difficult though because, at 2 years old, most cats are already fully set in their ways when it comes to litter training.

I adopted both of my cats from family friends when they were several weeks old and litter trained but the younger one never covers her poop/urine. Instead, she does something really bizarre which I guess was a misunderstanding from when she was initially litter trained by her mother. She relieves herself but then she just claws around the edges of the litter box for a while before stepping out. It's like she believes this is the normal way to "bury" stuff in there...Weird. We have never been able to get her to do it the right way. lol

You should be cleaning the litter box on a daily basis.

Our cat is very private and sometimes I wish she was not a purebred but she is our girl and we love her. She is very loving but in her own terms. She will also meow very loudly after using her litter box, and she does rarely cover her poo, yes she will scratch around on the wall and the litter box itself but, God forbid she would ever get any poo on her paws! Although she is very proper, sometimes she will go on some kind of a crazy spur, we called it "crazy kitty", she will act like she just had a whole gallon of coffee or is on some kind of speed, she turns into this crazy clown, her fur all sticking up, her tail completely straight up and she runs around often sideways and we confront her she just wants to be a clown and she becomes one crazy and amusing animal. We figure she just wants to put on a show, so we encourage her. We throw crumpled pieces of paper on the floor and she just goes wild, then it's over and she is back to normal and sometimes somewhat embarrassed. We also have two labrador dogs, sometimes and for no reason at all, she will just open a can of "whoop ass" on the boy dog, she jumps him, smacks him around as if she just wants to make sure that he knows she is the boss.

The shelter said she hates other animals but she loves people. They were 100% correct. I don't have any other animals so this is a perfect environment for her.

I had one cat that only did her business outside. She'd go a little crazy if she needed to go. If she really couldn't hold it, she'd do it in the bathtub/shower. No litter issues with the rest of em.

Looking back, all my female cats were a little crazy. lol The males were all docile and got pushed around. XD

Our girl cats are the worst for this. They never want to touch the litter. It is very, very common.

Our one boy cat though is overly rambunctious when he covers, so litter everywhere.

Usually if they are young they are pretty crazy. Back when my housemate had a cat (about 4 months old) she runs around like wild. Always chasing people around whenever I go to the living room. She also likes to pee everywhere and enjoys scratching / destroying sofas and jumping up and down the table. She hardly slept at all.

A little crazy isn't so bad. :s I miss my cat, Xena (appropriately named). She was short of being able to throw a chakram. All the wall climbing and acrobatics was simply amazing.
