Am I The Only One Bothered By Chris Kluwe?

So, we ate a lot of shit from the free thinkers of CE&P for bashing on Tim Tebow. However, the entire time, I kept thinking of Chris Kluwe and how he really rubs me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong, I love what the guy says (obviously), and it's great to have more allies for whatever reason (he just filed a joint Prop 8 brief with Brendon Ayanbadejo). But for some reason, it all feels way too much like attention whoring, and riding the LGBT-friendly wave.

Or maybe I'm just paranoid and he's a legitimately good guy who wants to help. Or maybe it's both.

He's a legitimately good guy. Nobody just sticks his neck out like that without realizing the shit he is going to take from fellow teammates and fans, a lot of whom are very conservative and homophobic.

By the way, scream is going to mop the floor with you on this one.

Heh, I don't hate the guy, and I'm open to enough context to make me feel good about him. It's just... he seems super aggressive about it, like it's personal. And since it's supposedly not personal, it feels artificial.

I thought the same of Judge Walker, actually. Of course, he came out...

The argument could be made about Olsen and Boies, because they stand to gain a tremendous amount of publicity and not to mention millions of dollars, plus a book deal. Kluwe doesn't stand to gain much really, so I don't see a need to be cynical.

I suggest you watch the Stephen Colbert interview with Klewe. He is very much the way he comes off as an advocate in other areas of his life trust me!

He has indeed been nothing short of amazing. His support (and that of Ayanbandejo too) will be needed for when an NFL player comes out of the closet.

I love the guy. I think he truly believes what he is saying. He might be seeking attention...not really sure...but I appreciate that he is using his position and platform in order to deliver the message so if attention is what he wants I am happy to give him positive attention.

Constantly obsessing over whether our allies in the culture war genuinely care about us or are just attention whores will only ill serve us in the long run.

Politicians are another animal all together (Hitler anyone?), but what's an NFL player really going to be able to do? Even if he is just riding the LGBT wave, I don't see that wave stopping anytime soon. Equal rights is inevitable at this point. If all he wants is to be on the right side of history I'll take what I can get.

Right side of history aside,NFL,MLB,NHL and NBA are still very homophobic in many aspects. ANy player that supports gay rights is brave in my book.
