Do you take supplements? Is it something 'having to do with your diet' or not?

I'm kind of curious because my father takes 5 supplements on a daily basis (high-dose vitamin C, omega-3, curcuma, a herbal supplement I don't recall, and chlorophyll), even more diligent than his diabetes medication. Well, he barely eat fruits and vegetables, so I kind of see his thought, though I cannot say I agree with him. Once he asked me pseudo-innocently if he could find another source of nutrients. I rolled my eyes and sarcastically told him that unless he changed his diet, he would be addicted to the supplements - as well as wasting lots of money. But again maybe it's just that he practically believes in anything the supplement producers advertise.

Then there is a friend of mine who drinks chlorophyll and a brand of multivitamin every day, stating the same reason: since she does not eat veggies because she doesn't like it, she will have to suffice her vitamin requirements some other way.

Not trying to judge though; I take glucosamine too, although it's because I'm concerned of my poorly-shaped knee. And occasional vitamin C when I'm not feeling well.

    How about you guys?

Remember that mandatory drug/supplement consumption due to conditions doesn't count (e.g. iron supplementation for iron deficiency anaemia).

I do not use supplements. A healthy, balanced diet, exercise, fresh air and sunshine give me all I need.

I eat well and take care of myself, but I also take supplements and probiotics that help with my migraines and food sensitivities.

Vitamin D. I live in a country that barely gets sunlight for 3 months AND I work nights.

I used to. But my doctor said it was messing with my liver so I stopped. Switched to eating more veggies.

I eat tons of nuts and vegetables and a fair amount of fruit. Co-Q10, D3, a multi, fish oil and some other stuff, but not a lot really. Seriously, I've never noticed a difference one way or the other. Unless I come down with a cold--which happens maybe every three years--I always feel good. I'm amazed how good I feel even if I've only gotten three hours sleep--which happened twice last week--although I understand how destructive that can be.

Once in awhile I may take a multi-vitamin if I haven't been eating really well (ie lots of junk food or fast food-on the go). I'll try to take some extra Vitamin C sometimes as well as it's great for the immunity and you can't really overdose on that.

Actually you can even though it is water soluble. I once have a diarrhea after overdosing Vitamin C.

Well I suppose you can if you overly megadose yourself. Too much of any one thing is bad but at least it isn't lipid soluble, like you said. What on earth were you doing or eating to overdose yourself to that point? I've never had a problem with it.

At least it wasn't anything worse than diarrhea like liver damage. You chose the right Vitamin to whore out on.

I take cinnamon, niacin, flaxseed oil, milk thistle, and a multi vitamin. Plus five medications for high blood pressure and diabetes.

My doctor went on a Vitamin D kick a couple years ago so I take it now. I think it must have a been the topic at the Medical Convention because just about everyone I know got the same recommendation from their respective doctors the same year.

Also take Fish Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin C, Chromium and Vitamin E.

I can't take the Multi Vitamins because the Vitamin B makes my legs hurt really bad. It is a hidden side effect. The 85 year old lady I work with couldn't walk a couple years ago and she got stuck in her cellar because she couldn't get up the steps...and she had been to the doctor about it for a couple years with no results as alot of times they dismiss old people as "just getting old"...so I asked her if she took Vitamin B and she said yes and I told her to stop...and she did...and after 2+ years of being in pain in her legs it went away in a week and a half after stopping taking the B.

I use to take some protein and weight gain tablets. Mostly because i am too skinny. These days I either had kiwi or orange a day. if not I either substitute with veges or I eat some Vitamin C tablets.
