Gun Owners of America president Larry Pratt appeared Tuesday on the Talk to Solomon Show alongside conservative blogger Greg W. Howard, of Twittergate fame, for another chance to spew anti-Obama conspiracy theories.

Pratt predicted that President Obama may begin confiscating guns in order to provoke a violent response to justify further oppression, which host Stan Solomon feared would lead to the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of people.

Pratt once again insisted that Obama is acting like King George III, a sentiment with which Solomon concurred, saying, “That will happen quickly and they will wipe those people out to set an example.”

This nonsense fascinates me, because outwardly normal-appearing people really believe this stuff.

I have written about it here before, but I have a neighbor who insists Obama maintians a secret prison "out west" where inmates are decapitated with modern, industrial guillotines and their organs harvested for transplantation. He claims "people have seen" trainloads of prisoners being brough into this facility, but no one ever leaves.

I have pointed out to this guy that decapitation is not a mode of death that would allow harvesting of organs, and that if "people have seen" trains going into this place, then someone must surely know where it is. But this man is not one to let evidence, reason, or logic get in the way of his beliefs.

This guy holds a master's degree in some health and safety field. He once held an important job at a large company, where he analyzed employee health data to help set company health and safety policies. You'd think that someone like that would not be inclined toward such magical thinking. But, in fact, this seems fairly common to me (at least among Republicans).

I am thankful every day that no one has made an attempt on the President's life. It scares me just how crazy some of these people are in their hatred for the first black president. The problem here is that people are considering this guy an authority. Anyone can create a group. The leader of that group is viewed as an authority regardless of their actual power or qualifications. The media feeds this. Instead of treating the people like average crazies, they make them into "qualified" "experts" by including their meaningless position.

Americans love to pretend that people with whom they disagree actually are representing something or someone. It makes it much easier to consider oneself superior.

I recognize that people are not color-blind. Feel free to use whatever made up term you want to describe that. That's my issue as well. You can't seriously just write off that only the far fringe crazy-of-the-crazy believe things like this (even if they won't admit it openly) when things like the huge surge in gun sales happen right after Obama gets re-elected. When I was watching the Inauguration, when I saw Pres. and Ms. Obama walking... I just about shit a brick. Then I realized how many Secret Service were accompanying them. You know, the ones with the "lean and hungry look." I think (and hope) they're at the top of their game. I think there was much to be learned from previous attempts on Presidents.
