    Unplanned trip to castro :P

so heres some pics of today's naked protest in castro, sf. it appears that guys here love attention and will go to any length of shock value to get it lol.

guys stripped down and started making out... even a cop, that i thought was originally there to break up the protest -- started MAKING OUT with a lady protestor whilst getting pics taken haha. okay, he may have not been a real cop... but his uniform looked really legit. i cant be too sure :P (hes the guy in the middle of the pic with the sunglasses.

but my main point, i realized today that i honestly dont really like going to the castro all that much. i feel like im constantly judged and made inferior by a bunch of superficial gay guys. im not saying all gay guys are like this, but you cant tell me that a majority of our community isnt [superficial]... and with all these super good looking guys walking around, with their nose up in the air, i just feel bad about myself.

it just doesnt really help when you have an image problem is all.

Yeah, I was not at all impressed with the ‘climate’ when I visited ‘castro’ some years ago. Doesn’t sound like it’s changed.

Everyone seemed to be trying to out peacock each other (market themselves?). Very insecure folks – or just a lot of hookers???

I think that is the general climate of SF and LA. They are so far up their own asses that they can't even see the scrotum attached to the penis. Sure there are exceptions to every stereotype but that just reinforces it.

To the OP, you shouldn't let yourself feel inferior, unless you're comparing your photography skills. . . .

Back around 1981 I was certain that Invasion of the Body Snatchers happened in the Castro. Seriously. I liked Cabaret and Neighborhood Style Bars (on Polk ) and big dance clubs (South of Market) so my exposure to Castro was really limited...and when I went there finally...YIKES. Everyone looked almost exactly alike and they all had the same snotty attitude and there were all these people who moved to SF from all over the country telling me (a native) that San Francisco was "The City"..NOT San Francisco (BARF)...I was thinking...go fuck yourself and take your attitude with you. I didn't see that kind of attitude anywhere else...just that street.

Nowadays for the most part...it is slimy and gross and seedy....I feel sorry for the people with the businesses having the naked people in front of their shops.

It’s an uploading thing. I’m sure you know that – leg pulled and all. This site’s album/attachment software is . . . . not too much fun.

The pics are nice, actually. I had forgotten about those overhead cables. It was creepy, to me, as though giant electrified spiders had invaded the city.

I was only ribbing you that the pics were too dark, didn't show much, and pretty much were a muddle.

As you know, I like your threads, but the pics, not so much so.

That's quite a generalization to make. LA for the most isn't quite like that actually. You're going to have snotty people everywhere (actually Hollywood is more like that ). As for San Francisco (we call it Frisco...haven't hear "The City" until now)...yeah that's pretty much on the money if you're talking about the Castro. I've a friend that invited me to go to the gay parade one year and I turned that down without hesitation.

It was just that street (Castro) and the people were Twilight Zone creepy at the time...they had a dress and attitude code and someone forgot to send me a memo. I remember me and a friend had been dancing and were going to meet his other friend at a bar off Castro...I didn't have on black boots, levis and a white t-shirt....and I was completely out of place....and not because I had a body image problem. There was a weird oppressive conformity code going on that I will never forget...and it is the reason I can count on two or three hands the number of times I have been to Castro.

San Francisco in general has gone downhill in recent years. It used to be a very pretty, delightfully eccentric place. Now it's just scuzzy for the most part. To be fair, LA ain't all that great, either.

To the OP, I know exactly how you feel. I went to Weho for the first time when I was just about your age and found the same attitude then that you found in the Castro today. Guess some things never change.

They certainly help feed the notion that all gays are cowboys, emo-fems, or leather daddies. I've been there a grand total of once and that's more than enough for me.
